Episode 23: Secret's Out

Narico sighed as he sat bored in Fang's house. His adoptive big brother was off training with his friends, and that left Narico home alone. Though he had an adult body, Narico's mind was still that of a child. However, it would have been odd if he had attended school in his current state. Hoping that it would give him some sense of how long he'd been detained in his prison of boredom, Narico looked at the clock. It was 3 pm. That meant school was out, and the CMC were most likely in their clubhouse. Narico smiled as he went out the door, and his wings began to buzz as he took flight for the CMC clubhouse. He soon arrived and knocked on the door. The CMC were pretty happy to see their changeling friend. Especially after the girls told them about Burst and the guys tangling with mutant changelings.

"Hi Narico!" Scootaloo greeted. "We were just planning out some activities on how to get our marks! Ya wanna help?"

Narico smiled. "Changelings don't have to worry about something like that, but sure!" Narico took a seat on the floor. "So. What's on the list?"

"Hmmm." Sweetie Belle rubbed her chin in thought. "Well we've got skydiving...but that sort of bombed on us." She then pulled up a list of the activities she and the other CMC had been doing. "Seamstresses didn't work out namely because Rarity got really upset with us for borrowing that gold silk without asking."

Apple Bloom scratched her head in confusion. "What ta do?"

Narico was about to scratch his own head when an idea came to him! "Hey...didn't Featherweight say he was working for the school newspaper? Maybe we could see if he needs some extra help with finding articles to write about." The CMC grinned as they pounced on Narico to give him a hug. The group then set out for the school's newspaper. "Youth Creek Press. This looks like the place." Things seemed to go well, but the CMC ran into a roadblock when it came what article they were going to write. They turned to Narico with wide smiles. "Why're you looking at me like that?"

"Well...yer a kid stuck in a grown-up's body right?" Apple Bloom asked. "Well, how'd ya get like that?"

Narico nodded. "Yeah. That's right."

"And you say you turned out this way because of a dream you had after you wished on a shooting star?" Sweetie Belle asked. "Maybe your dream was what made this possible."

Scootaloo then got right in Narico's face! "Well, spill it! What were you dreaming of?"

Narico sighed as he recalled the dream that landed him in his current body. "Well...I dreamed about a woman." Narico then smiled fondly. "I wished that I would meet my true love that night. I guess that must have been her in my dreams. She seem surprised by me. I was pretty surprised that she accepted me being a changeling. We talked for a good while, but then the dream ended when she was about to kiss me. Still, I don't think you three can base a story off of that. Maybe you should look around town? Maybe then something'll turn up." Narico watched the CMC leave with a hopeful smile only to find them return not a few minutes later with disappointed frowns. "I'm guessing there wasn't much going on?" Narico asked nervously.

Scootaloo groaned. "Man! The ONE DAY nothing happens around town! UGH!"

"But...we DID spot a lot of secrets!" Sweetie Belle noted. "How about we publish them in the newspaper under a false name?"

Narico instantly snapped at this! "NO!" The CMC were confused. Narico took a deep breath to compose himself. "Sorry girls. It's just...you know how no one knew I was a changeling when I showed up?"

Apple Bloom nodded. "Yeah. Ah heard that changelings were just monsters who wanna suck up yer love. But you were nice Narico!" Apple Bloom smiled nervously. Hoping that her closing remark was enough to recover from the stereotype statement she had started with.

"Well...I really can't blame many people for thinking that." Narico said as he remembered his original appearance. "But imagine if you did know, and decided to blurt my secret out to everyone?" The CMC's smiles dropped instantly. "You would have hurt me. Everyone would try to hunt or kill me just because of what I was. Heck, I may look different, but I'm still a changeling." Narico looked the CMC right in the eye. "The point is, secrets hurt people when they're leaked. And it's even worse when the one who spills the secret decides they're not hurting anyone by keeping quiet. Do you see where I'm going with this?" The CMC nodded. Narico gave them a small smile in return. "Thank goodness. Now come on. I think we'd better had in your resignations." And with that, the CMC's search for their special talents resumed.
