Say You'll Stay

Fluttershy walked into the bedroom she and her husband — Discord — shared. Just as she entered the room, Discord snapped his fingers and made all of his belongings fly out of the room and into a small suitcase that was lying open on the bed.

"Umm Discord, What are you doing?"

"Leaving." He blankly stated, without looking over his shoulder at her.

"Leaving? Leaving for where?" Fluttershy said with surprising alarm. Discord would never go anywhere without informing her ahead of time.

"Here." Was all Discord said.

Fluttershy was really confused. "Here? What do you mean, Discord? I don't understand."

Discord slammed the suitcase closed in such an agitated manner that it made Fluttershy jump.

"I am leaving here! Leaving this place." Discord held his arm out to indicate the home he and Fluttershy were sharing. "And most importantly, leaving you! Do you understand that now!? Or is your lack of intelligence lacking even more than usual?!" his voice grew louder with each word he spoke that he was practically yelling by the time he finished his sentence.

Fluttershy gasped as his cutting remark sliced through her like a knife, and she felt tears well up in her eyes.

"M-m-m-me? B-b-but why..." Her lip trembled as she spoke.

Discord groaned in exasperation before finally turning to face her with his arms folded against his chest. His face set in a hard, angry scowl.

"Oh come on Fluttershy, it was bound to happen sooner or later."

"W-w-w-w-what..."

"I'm tired of you! I've grown bored! That is why I am leaving you for Celestia!"

Fluttershy could not stop the hot, painful tears from flowing down her cheeks. "C-C-C-Celestia..."

"YES! I should have married her instead of you. We have much more in common than I ever had with you. For one thing, she's immortal like me, so she will always remain beautiful. While you will eventually grow old and get wrinkles. Not to mention ugly." Discord rolled his eyes when he saw the tears of heartbreak run down Fluttershy's face. "For another, she is also not a crybaby, or a wimp when it comes to...well...anything really. She's brave and strong, while you are a weak little pegasus who's afraid of everything! And I do mean everything!"

Fluttershy let out the sob that was screaming for release and collapsed on the ground in a weeping heap, her face buried in her hooves as she cried. The tears were waterfalling down her face, so much so that a small puddle started to form on the floor.

"I-I used to be." Fluttershy bravely stated. "A-a-afraid of everything, I mean. B-b-but because of y-you and m-my other friends, I gained so m-much more confidence. I became a better pony because of all of you. Y-y-you taught me to be more spontaneous and have opened me up to so many new and w-wonderful possibilities that I would have been too scared to try before. Y-you helped shaped me into the pony I am today."

Discord blew air through his lips. "Pfft, yeah right, you haven't changed at all! You're still the same pathetic excuse of a pony I first met back in the Palace Labyrinth. Speaking of palaces, I really must be going. Goodbye Fluttershy." He grabbed his suitcase and headed for the door.

Fluttershy stretched her hoof towards his fading form. "No Discord! Please! Don't leave me! Please!" She cried.

Fluttershy gasped as her eyes flew open. It took her a few minutes to remember where she was, but once she realized that she was in her bed safe and sound, she let out a shaky sigh of relief.

It was only a dream. But it felt so real.

The pillow her head had been resting on was wet with the real tears she had been shedding. She sat up and turned her head to look beside her, her husband was lying with his back facing her, sleeping soundly.

Fluttershy felt cold air hit her tear-stained cheeks. She glanced one last time at the sleeping Discord before silently slipping out of bed and tiptoeing out of the bedroom.

As quietly as she could, she climbed down the stairs and walked into the kitchen to fix herself a hot cup of tea. Which always calmed her down as well as relaxed her physically, and emotionally.

"Fluttershy?"

Fluttershy almost dropped her cup in startled surprise from the soft voice that sounded behind her. Though the voice was quiet, it was still louder than the dead silence that the night usually brought. With the cup of tea now held firmly between her hooves, she turned around to see her husband standing there. A look of concern etched on his face.

"Is everything okay?" Discord asked.

Fluttershy knew he could see much better in the dark than anypony else she knew, so she had to turn her head away for fear of him seeing her tear-stained cheeks and puffy eyes.

"I'm fine."

"Are you sure?"

Fluttershy nodded, and flew back upstairs with the cup of tea in her hooves. Once in the bedroom, she placed her cup on her bedside table. She lifted her head to make her way back to the bed, and as she did so, she jumped in surprise at seeing Discord already sitting on the edge of his side of the bed.

The room was dimly lit, thanks to the small night light Fluttershy kept beside her. There was just enough light in the room for Fluttershy to see the deep concern that was radiating in her husband's eyes.

"Fluttershy, what is going on? You never wake up in the middle of the night, and you only drink hot tea when there's something bothering you."

Although she wouldn't lift her face up to him, Discord had already seen her wet cheeks and swollen eyes.

Discord sighed and moved to sit beside his wife. He draped his eagle claw around her and that small gentle touch seemed to finally get through to her. For as soon as he touched her, Fluttershy broke into tears. Discord pulled her to him and held her comfortingly as she let loose all the tears that were pent up inside. His lion paw gently stroked through the curls of her mane as she cried.

"Y-you won't leave me for Celestia, will you?" Fluttershy whispered.

Discord's eyes widened in confusion. He lifted his snout from where it was buried in her rose scented hair and pulled back to look at her.

"What are you talking about? Of course I'll never leave you. Not for Celestia, not for anypony. Why would you even think that?"

"I...I had a dream. You...You wanted to be with Princess Celestia, a-and t-that you wished you had married her instead of me..." She sniffed, fresh tears still rolling down her cheeks.

Discord pushed back a few strands of pink hair that had become stuck to her wet cheeks. "My dear," he started. "I have never loved Celestia, not even before I met you."

Fluttershy stared up at him, her teal orbs filled with surprise. "Really? B-but she's immortal like you, a-a-and she is so beautiful, what with her flowing mane and all. Not to mention she's an alicorn a-and..." She was cut off as Discord's lips made contact with hers, stopping her from speaking further. It was a deep, yet soft kiss that held many meanings to it.

He pulled back and tenderly wiped away the remaining tears that were still rolling down her cheeks. He let his claw linger on her pale yellow cheek for a while.

"I know she is immortal, but I do not care about that. The same goes for her being an alicorn. Look at Twilight, she's an alicorn who is also immortal. Does that mean I love her?"

Fluttershy meekly shook her head.

"Exactly, I love you for you. I wouldn't care if you were an alicorn, a bunny, a parasprite, or even just a simple earth pony. I would still love you for you. Besides, Celestia is too ’orderly’ for my tastes. And she has no beauty compared to you."

Fluttershy sniffed. "R-r-really?" You mean that?"

Discord smiled. "Every word."

Fluttershy could tell, as well as see, that he was completely genuine and sincere with everything he had said.

"But will you still believe all that when I become old and ugly with wrinkles?" She asked with aching sadness. Part of her wasn't sure she wanted to know the answer.

But her husband only smiled again. "You will never become ugly, not even with wrinkles. You will always be beautiful, inside and out. Even if you one day look like Granny Smith!"

Fluttershy giggled, and the sound brought a smile to Discord's lips. He gave her a quick kiss on her lips before coaxing her to lay back down on the bed. Once she did so, he pulled the covers up to her and laid down next to her. He wrapped his arms around her once again and pulled her to him.

Fluttershy rested her head on Discord's chest, his fur there was softer than any pillow she had ever known. She could hear his heart beating softly and steadily through his chest, and the sound started to lull her back to sleep.

Discord sweetly kissed her forehead, his lips lingering on her skin for a few minutes before breaking the contact and resting his snout on the top of her head.

They both sighed in pure bliss as they fell asleep in each other's arms.
