//------------------------------// // A new home // Story: Cirque Du Freak: An Apprentice? // by reader8363 //------------------------------// My name isn’t really Darren Shan, I’m just going to be using it so you don’t go looking for any evidence that this story is true or not, but I’m somehow a vampire again, but this time a full vampire. Don’t ask how it happened, I don’t know. I think I should start at the beginning. The last thing I remember is laying on the roof of the old theater, looking at the stars, and closing my eyes. Then I heard a voice say, “Sir, could you please get out of the royal garden. I said as I sat up, “I’m guessing this is paradise or maybe heaven. I opened my eyes to see that it was nighttime, I didn’t think of it at first since Vampires are better at night, we don’t die immediately from sunlight, we burn at first. I knew a vampire named Vancha March that would take a run in sunlight to get a better immune to the light. I don’t know what happened to him. I turned to see who was talking to me and I jumped. Standing there was a horse, with human-ish features, a horn, and a sword floating, wearing armor. I did the only thing a person in my position does, I ran. Before I knew it, I was in a different place, then I realized that I just flitted, which I shouldn’t be able to do as a half vampire. The moon was lowering, and I was tired. I walked to a random building, opened the door, and listen closely for any sound that might tell me if someone’s here. I sighed quietly when I didn’t hear a thing, but the smell wasn’t that great. I walked into a room and fell asleep on the bed. I woke to the sound of screaming. I opened my eyes to see a small filly standing there in the doorway. Her fur was a creamish color, her mane and tail were red, and she had a bow on. I used my speed to quickly clamp my hand down over her mouth, her eyes showed fear, then I listened for any noise. Sure enough, I heard one or two running up the stairs, calling out for an apple bloom. Two equines were standing in the doorway, one had red fur and orange mane and tail, the other had orange fur and blond mane and tail in a ponytail. When they saw me the orange one charged at me, I let go of the filly and used my speed to run out of the house.I stopped at a tree, and picked an apple off the tree, it was a bit green, but I didn’t really care. I quickly had breakfast and headed down the street. I arrived at a place that sort of looked like a town, the lights were off as usual since it was nighttime. I walked through the town looking at the buildings, then I heard a cart coming this way at full speed. I ducked into an alley and listened watched the three equines barreling down the street heading to a building, the stallion was pulling the cart, the mare was comforting the filly while she was yelling for everypony to head to the city hall. I scaled the roof to see equines of many shapes and colors, some with wings or horns and other without. I couldn’t hear most of the conversations with them all talking at once, but I could pick out creature, attacked, ran off, and find. After a while, I decided that I wouldn’t be welcome here until it died down a little. I reached the bottom when I heard yelling. I turned around to see another filly standing there. This time it was an orange filly with wings and a purple mane. I cursed silently under my breath as I turned around and as about to run the other way when I saw more was blocking that way. With my options dwindling down to nothing, I decided to climb into a window, I know I’ve could’ve flit, but I wasn’t thinking straight at the time, I looked at one of the buildings that I was next to, and saw that there was an opened window. I ran to the wall and started using my nails to climb up the wall. When I was halfway up, I felt a jolt in my back, right in my spine or close to it. My body froze up and I fell to the ground. When I was on the ground, with equines holding me down, I thought as I closed my eyes, maybe this entire thing is a dream, or maybe a premonition about what’s going to happen. I started hearing voices yelling at me, but I ignore them, then I felt something hit me. I slowly opened my eyes and looked up. Standing there were four equines that had wings and horns. Then I heard what one of them was saying, “Explain why you thought it was okay.” I said weakly as I looked at them one by one, “What, could you repeat the whole thing, I only caught the last part.” There was one with white fur and a flowing mane of different colors, one with dark blue fur and a flowing mane of the night sky, one with pink fur and a yellow, magenta, and purple mane, and the last one had lavender fur with purple mane with a stripe of pink in it. The lavender one sighed and said, “I heard that you broke into one of my friends’ home, slept in her sister’s bed, then attacked her when she screamed, then when she came up to see why her sister screamed, you fled and stole an apple on the way. Explain why you think that it was okay.” I said as I stood up, “I didn’t know someone was living there, and it was almost daytime, so I needed some sleep. The filly’s screaming was hurting my ears. I was hungry, and how would someone tell that an apple was missing out of an entire orchard. Would anyone of you be able to give me some blood, I am a vampire and I haven’t had some in years, technically, I was a spirit.” The equine looked at each other and the white one walked up and said, “Vampires are of legends, and if you were, why would one of us let you kill us so you stay alive, and how were you a spirit?” I looked at them in shock and said, “I’m not going to kill one of you, I was taught to drink a small amount, not killing the host. It will be a small cut that would be barely noticeable and would be mistaken as a scratch or a scar and how I was a spirit is a long story I might tell you tomorrow night.” The white one looked at me and said, “Fine, but if I die, the guards will kill you.” I slowly walked up to her and quickly made an incision on the neck, avoiding any important vein. I felt her jolt a little from the pain, then I drank a little bit of her blood. Even though it was from a talking equine, it still had the same taste as human blood. After I was done, I licked it, then I was floating in the middle of the room. The white one was staring at me and said, “Why did you lick me? I thought you just needed blood. I looked down at my nails to see that they were long, I looked up at the white one and said as I bit them down, “Vampire’s saliva can heal wounds.” The pink one looked at the white one's neck and said, “I think he’s telling the truth, it just looks like you got scratched. I don’t think we properly introduced ourselves. My name is Princess Cadence, the one that gave you blood is Celestia, the dark blue one that giving you glares every once in awhile is Luna, and the last one is Twilight.” The one named Luna turned to Cadence and said, “I don’t recall giving you permission to tell our names to the prisoner. Celestia nodded and said, “I agree with my sister, but I see the point of telling our names in the first place. He would have harmed us already if he wanted to hurt us.” I cleared my throat to get their attention and said when all eyes were on me, “It nice to meet you all, and my name is Darren Shan. I’m guessing the sun will be coming up soon, so is there a hammock or somewhere I can sleep for the day?” Celestia smiled and said, “I think the ponies won’t mind me not raising the sun, till you are taken to our old castle.” I was about to thank Celestia for a home before she raised the sun, but then it dawned on me. I looked at her like she was crazy, then the others and said when I saw that they looked like it was normal, “Wait, it’s impossible to control the sun, even for winged unicorns.” Twilight stepped forward and said, “Actually, the correct term is Alicorn and it’s true, Celestia controls the sun, and Luna controls the moon.” I just stared at them in bewilderment, two of them decides when night and day begins and ends. Then Twilight came down the stairs and said, “Come on, it won’t be long to get there. So the ponies don’t have to wait a long time.” I sighed and said as I grabbed her, “So, where’s the castle.” She looked confused and said as she pointed in a direction, “It’s in the forest that’s next to Ponyville, where found you, which is that wa...” I didn’t let her finish, I picked her up and flitted out of the Castle. I landed for a bit, before resuming. When we got there, she squirmed in my arm and when she landed on the ground, started puking. She looked at me with anger and said, “What was that I would have been better if I teleport there.” I shrugged my shoulders and said, “I thought that flitting would be faster.” She stared at me with a little bit of liquid coming out of her mouth, it was either drool or acid from her puking. I took a step back in case she charges at me. Then she sighed and said as she unsteadily got on her legs, “Come on, at least you got us close to it.” I walked behind her until I saw the castle. It was in ruins, most of the roof was caved in, vines and moss grew out of the cracks in the stone, and the gargoyles were in ruins. I was about to say that it’s a dump and I won’t be able to live there, but then she said, “I know that it’s not in the best shape, but the underground part is still intact.” I sighed and said as I headed in, “guess I’ll head to bed, and get more sleep, this time without interruption from a filly or a stallion pointing a sword at me.” I walked through the place, thinking about my past life and how I’ll tell the princesses about them. I opened a door and found a library with a journal that was empty on the first page. I decided to write about what happens to me here, what happened after I no longer exist.
