Equestria's First Petlympic Games

New Furry Friends

Twilight was preening her pet owl's feathers, when she heard Spike come into the room with a roll of parchment. She asked him, "A letter from Celestia? Let's see what it's about." She read the letter which read

"Dear Twilight Sparkle,

One of my advisors, and a close friend of mine, has suggested a series of competitions specifically for pets. We've finally set up the Coliseum here in Canterlot, and we are very excited to see you and your friends come to enter your pets. However, my advisor has asked that you not bring your regular pets, as the games might be too difficult for them to handle. Enclosed with this letter are seven tickets to get you into the Coliseum, as well as pet egg vouchers to receive a complimentary pet egg of your choice at the Coliseum's Pet Shop. I hope you and your friends will choose to enter these games.

Sincerely, Princess Celestia"

Spike asked her, "So what did the letter say?"

Twilight said, "I'll explain it later, we need to get the girls together." She went off to find her friends to tell them to meet her back at her library.

When the group got together, Rainbow Dash asked, "What's up Twilight?"

Twilight smiled and read them the letter before asking, "I think it sounds fun, even if we can't enter with our regular pets, perhaps we can find them a friend to play with using the pet egg vouchers."

Applejack nodded saying "Winona gets pretty lonely when I go out of town, I reckon a friend might be a good way to fix that."

Rarity pondered it for a moment before saying, "I suppose I could use the voucher to get Sweetie Belle a pet of her own."

Dash said, "Well, considering that even if we could enter the pets we have, I don't think they'd let Tank wear his propeller, so I guess if I'm going to enter, I'll take one of those vouchers."

Pinkie bounced around happily saying, "Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Another pet to play with me and Gummy!"

Fluttershy smiled lightly and said, "I would like to see some animals I've never taken care of before, maybe I'll find one at the games."

Twilight nodded, "Then it's agreed, we'll be entering Equestria's 1st annual Petlympic Games! Let's go get our train tickets and get to Canterlot as soon as we can.

As the group stepped off the train, they saw a pony dressed in armor similar to that of the Royal Guards, but much more ornate. He asked the group, "I take it you're Twilight Sparkle, and these are your friends?"

Twilight nodded and said, "That's right, and you are?"

The stallion told them, "My name, fair lady, is Blaze Burner. I am the master of ceremonies for the Petlympic Games. Princess Celestia asked me to show you to the Coliseum and introduce you to the many events we'll be hosting there, as well as some of the places where you can learn a thing or two about raising your pets to top physical condition for the games. If you would follow me, I have a carriage for you all waiting outside the station."

The group followed Blaze Burner and as he hooked himself to the carriage, he started towards the Coliseum. As the doors slowly swung open to reveal the inside of the Coliseum, the group stood in awe of its majesty. Blaze Burner chuckled as he stopped and said, "It's something that words just can't describe, you have to see it to actually experience it."

As the group got out of the carriage, Twilight asked, "Celestia gave us these pet egg vouchers, where do we go to use them?"

Blaze Burner said, "In due time Twilight, in due time. First we have to get you acquainted with our facilities." he led them around the tents inside the Coliseum, where people explained to them that when pets finish training activities, you should feed them a snack. A Zebra explained the ancient magic of Morphomancy, which allows two pets of any kind to have a child, no matter how incompatible they are. The final pony at the tent explained that certain pet activities require certain gear.

After the introductions were out of the way Twilight said, "That's quite a lot to take in. I never knew raising a pet could be so hard."

Blaze Burner said, "It's not actually as hard as you think, doing a training activity is simply an activity where the pet exercises as well as has fun. Morphomancy is a bit harder to explain, so we'll cover that topic later. Different pets like different snacks, so be sure to pay close attention to what snack you feed a pet after it's finished training. Now, I do believe it's time I took you to our pet egg store so you can get your pets." They started walking towards the pet egg shop and looked around.

Rainbow Dash looked at the pictures of what the eggs would hatch into, but wasn't that impressed, "Man, none of these pets look cool enough..." Until she saw an egg that showed a picture of a miniature manticore and she read the text "Teacup Manticore, lacks venomous sting, flies faster than larger relative, can be competitive for attention." Rainbow Dash picked up the egg and brought it to the counter and gave the pony working behind it her voucher.

The pony wrapped the egg up in an insulated blanket and said, "Keep the blanket over the egg and it should hatch within about five to ten minutes."

The others also got their pets, Twilight got an egg that would hatch into what the text called a 'Bunicorn,' while Rarity had gotten an egg that would hatch into an orange and white fish with a rainbow afro wig and a clown nose. She thought it would make Sweetie Belle laugh, and to be honest, it made her giggle a little bit. Pinkie Pie was attracted to what the tag called a Crokagator, since she already had an alligator, she thought it might make a nice friend for him. Fluttershy had gotten an egg that was supposed to hatch into a bunny with the fur pattern of a tiger. Finally, Applejack had decided on a Mini-Minotaur, since its axe could cut wood for anything they needed on the farm."

Blaze Burner smiled as he saw the group with their new eggs and said, "Why don't you go to your rooms and wait for your new eggs to hatch? The games begin in a week's time, so you should be able to train your pets by then."

The group turned in for the night, but not before seeing their new pets hatch.
