Episode 16: Read it and Weep

Steel rolled out of the way as a boomerang came flying at him! "Not bad Dash!" Steel fired a slash of chaos energy from his sword! "But now it's my turn!" Rainbow Dash noticed the slash of energy headed her way and summoned her boomerang back to her! Creating a hurricane barrier around her! Blocking the slash! "You're getting better."

Rainbow smirked. "Yeah I am! Today might be the day I kick your butt, AND bust out some new moves!" Rainbow hurled her boomerang at Steel! "Like this one!" Steel was surprised when a bolt of lightning shot out from Rainbow's boomerang! Shocking him! "How's that for a shocking move?"

Steel groaned as he got to his feet again. "Save the puns for when I'm K.O.'d." he said with a smirk. Steel then wrapped the blade of his sword in chaos energy and threw forward! The blade spinning as it flew at Rainbow! "Chaos Ripper!"

Rainbow's eyes went wide as she took to the air to avoid the spiralling blade! She then summoned her boomerang back to her and shot a bolt of lightning from it! Knocking Steel's weapon back to him before sending a mini tornado from her boomerang to send Steel flying! Steel soon recovered and charged forth with his shield's barrier ability activated! Crashing into Rainbow Dash! "Alright. Let's see how you handle this!" Rainbow Dash powered up her boomerang, and launched a large tornado gust! But it was too big and sucked both her and Steel in! Both of them screaming as the tornado spun them around!

"WHOOOOOAAAAAA!!!!" Both Steel and Rainbow soon came to a violent crash! Fortunately, Twilight, Rarity and Pinkie were watching them spar. Soon enough, they were rushed to the hospital. Both winced as they tried to move their wings.

"I'd...call this tie." Steel said with a weak smile. "But Dash? Watch how big you make your tornados next time."

Rainbow rolled her eyes. "How long do I gotta lie here? I've got things I need to do!"

"Dash, trust me. You're better off waiting until you're fully healed." Steel said calmly. He then shivered at the memory of when a Magi Elite Guard went on watch with a cold. Almost half the Elite Guard wound up as popsicles. "Besides, I'm sure there's something to keep us busy." Steel then looked to the doctor. "You got any books to read here?" The doctor noded. "Thanks."

Rainbow Dash went pale. "You read books?"

Steel blinked. "..Yes...is that a problem?"

"But...but you're so cool! Reading's only for eggheads like Twilight!" Rainbow Dash protested!

"Hey. I had to find something to keep me entertained. We've never seen much action." Steel then sighed. "Or maybe you just haven't found a book you like yet. Besides sports magazines and comic books." Steel then got an idea. "Twilight? Can you ask if they've got any Daring Do books? I think Dash would like them."

"Uh-uh! No way are you turning me into an egghead!" Rainbow Dash protested as she crossed her arms!

Steel rolled his eyes. "Reading's for everyone Rainbow. Heck, the other guys all have books they like to read! But if you want to listen to the ticking of the clock all the days we're here, be my guest." Twilight soon returned with the book Steel asked for. "Thanks Twilight." Steel then picked up another one of the books Twilight had brought. "Sweet. This one's about legendary monsters!" Steel got to reading, and Rainbow just looked on in denial that her boyfriend was a bookworm. Soon enough, the hours ticked by. And Rainbow was bored out of her skull. "So how much fun are you having listening to the clock tick by?"

Rainbow just glared at Steel. "UGH! Fine! I'll read the stupid book!" Rainbow snatched the book from the table and began to read.

"Be sure to read to yourself Dash. There's other patients." Steel noted. Time passed once again, and Steel noted Rainbow Dash's changing expression as she continued reading the Daring Do adventure Twilight had found. "Welcome to the world of eggheads Rainbow Dash." Steel said with a small smile.

Rainbow blushed. "I...don't suppose Twilight has any more of the series in her library?"

Steel was about to answer when he saw the room's door open. "Ask her yourself. There's no shame in liking a book Rainbow." Steel then returned to his book. Listening to Rainbow Dash ask Twilight to bring her more Daring Do books. Soon enough, there was a whole stack on the table. The rest of the Main 6 came by, but were met with a response they hadn't expected.

"Cant't talk! Reading!" Rainbow snapped. She then polished off the food she was given before resuming her story. Rainbow got so engrossed in her books that she didn't even sleep! Much less even know that she'd recovered.

Steel chuckled. "Don't worry doc. I'll take her home." He then looked to the pile of Daring Do books Rainbow Dash had amassed. "Though I'll probably need to stop by the Golden Oaks Library first." Steel took Rainbow Dash to the library, and smiled at how Rainbow Dash had gone total fandom. "And THAT is how you make an athlete a bookworm."
