A Dazzling Tale

Working on the Project (Again)

It was about 5:30 p.m. and Sunset and I were on our way to the spot we like to go to when we work on our project.

"Whoa! Adagio, slow down! We still need to get the supplies from my place," Sunset said.

"Oh," I said, releasing my grip on Sunset Shimmer.

"Then let's go to your place," I said.

"Alright, let's go," Sunset said.

We walked to Sunset's place and it was a somewhat enjoyable walk. She seemed to be in an incredibly happy mood; just about skipping along.

"Well, aren't you happy?" I remarked.

"Yeah. This is the first time I've ever had a friend who totally understands me!" Sunset said happily. "In fact, I've even compiled a list of things you, me, Aria, and Sonata can do when we go back to Equestria together."

"Go back to Equestria?" I said with a mixture of surprise and curiosity.

"Yeah. I was going to keep it a surprise but then I couldn't resist telling you," Sunset said. "But don't tell Aria or Sonata; I want to surprise them."

I was beginning to see an easier opportunity to go back to Equestria. Unfortunately, there was just one issue: I wanted to take over Equestria which would require more power than I have at the moment. So it seemed I'd have to sacrifice this easy opportunity. However, I wanted to participate in Battle of the Bands, regardless.

I couldn't care less about friendship, but the odd thing is: the more I hang out with Sunset Shimmer, the more I begin to feel like I shouldn't be doing what I'm doing. The more I think about it, the more infuriated I feel.

No, I thought. I've come too far to stop now. I will not let Sunset Shimmer stand in my way. I won't let anyone stand in my way.

"So, I came up with a great idea for our project," Sunset said.

"What is it?" I asked.

"I thought we could have facts about the Sirens of this world and then Equestrian Sirens," Sunset said.

"Nice concept," I said. "Are you sure anyone would believe it? I mean it's not like anyone knows about Equestria."

"Hmm... that's a good point. It's not like we could tell them, they don't trust me and I don't know how they feel about you," Sunset said. "I mean, only because you and I have hung out so much."

"Well, forget them! I don't care what they think about me," I said, slightly upset.

"You won't care until you find out what it feels like to have everyone shun you," Sunset said, sounding defeated.

But I do know what that feels like, I thought.

"Perhaps we should move onto a happier topic?" I suggested.

Sunset Shimmer's a very sensitive person, I've noticed. I didn't want her to start crying and then I feel that strange feeling of sympathy again.

"Yeah. So anyways. There was a test I was really nervous about in a class I had and when I took it I was so scared that I would fail it, but then the next day I'd received a one hundred percent on it," Sunset said. "I was so relieved."

We stopped when we reached the building both Sunset and I live in.

"Hey, we're here," Sunset said.

We walked inside.

"Good afternoon, Adagio and Sunset. How're you all?" the receptionist greeted.

"Great, thank you," I said.

"Same here. How about you?" Sunset said politely.

"Lovely, thank you," the receptionist replied.

"You're welcome!" Sunset said.

We walked into the elevator and I let out sigh of relief that Sonata wasn't here.

"So..." I said, attempting to start a conversation.

"So... I have no idea what to say," Sunset laughed.

The elevator stopped off at Sunset's floor.

"My place is just across the hall here," Sunset said.

We walked up to the door and Sunset Shimmer pulled a key out from the pocket of her leather jacket, then proceeded to unlock the door.

"And here we are. Come on in," she said.

I followed her inside.

The room had a very modern rocker sort of look. I noted the style.

"Make yourself at home," Sunset said. "I'll go and get the supplies."

She walked off to the left while I remained here.

A couple minutes later she returned with the project and the supplies.

"Heya," Sunset said. "Since it's a getting a little late, do you want to just work on the project here?"

"Sure," I said nonchalantly.

We got down on the floor.

"So, what do you think we should do about writing down facts about Equestrian Sirens?" Sunset asked.

"I doubt anyone would believe any of it. So we probably shouldn't," I said.

Though, that wasn't the real reason; I didn't want people to believe it and then possibly figure out what the girls and I were planning; better safe than sorry.

"Alright then, we won't write those facts down," Sunset said.

It's a good thing she's so gullible, otherwise I could end up in a sticky situation.

I began working on coloring my drawing of my Siren form using paints.

"That looks amazing! Are you sure you're not an artist as well as a musician?" Sunset exclaimed.

"I'm sure," I laughed.

"If you say so," Sunset said.

She began writing down a few things and so did I. The project was coming along nicely, not that I really cared.

"Hey, are you excited for tomorrow?" Sunset said.

"What's tomorrow?" I said.

I'd completely lost track of the days.

"The after school party for the participants of the musical showcase," SunsEG said.

"Oh, yes. Very excited," I said.

Because that's when the time will come for the Dazzlings carry out their plan, I thought.

"I'm a little less than excited. I'm excited to see my friends perform, but, I'm just a little afraid this competition will get the best of them," Sunset confessed.

"Well, if your friends are any good friends then they shouldn't let a competition get the best of them," I said.

"Yeah, I guess I'm worrying for nothing. I mean they are good friends," Sunset said.

She sighed and I said nothing else.

"Hey, wanna hear some music? I have a song that my friends wrote that's really good," Sunset said.

"Sure," I said, nonchalantly.

It was probably some stupid song about uniting everyone.

She pulled out her phone and began playing the song. I was right; it was a stupid song about uniting everyone. The first few verses went a little something like this:

Hey! Hey! Everybody!~

We've got something to say!~

We may seem as different as the night is from day~

But just look a little deeper~

~and you will see that I'm just like you and you're just like me. Yeah!~

I did my best to tune out that annoying song. It almost kind of reminded of what 'Let's Have a Battle (of the Bands)' would probably go if it weren't about dividing everyone.

Despite trying my best to ignore the song, I couldn't help but to sway my head along to the rhythm. I suppose music has become such a large part of me over time to the point where I just immediately want to move to the rhythm of the music I hear.

"Good song, isn't it?" Sunset asked. "Mhm. It is a good song," I lied. "It's a favorite of mine. It's just so sweet! Trying to unite the whole school after being divided for who knows how long," Sunset said.

I gazed at her steadily.

"Are you implying that I was trying to divide the school?!" I snapped, getting up and placing my hands on my hips.

"N-no! That's not– I wasn't trying to imply anything!" Sunset said, tearing up.

"Really?! Because that's what it seemed like!" I snapped.

"Don't friends trust that each other is telling truth?" Sunset said.

"Well, I guess we're not friends then!" I said with a sharp turn.

"B-but Adagio," Sunset sobbed.

I began walking toward the door, but then stopped in my tracks and looked at Sunset Shimmer.

"Oh, and Sunset Shimmer, in case you're wondering, yes, I am one of 'the Sirens' as you call us," I sneered. "And you aren't one of us anymore."

I walked out the door coolly. I even didn't care that I just revealed to Sunset Shimmer that I'm a Siren; I didn't care about hiding that fact anymore. I had a new idea.
