//------------------------------// // Spike's origins // Story: MLP Z: The perfect creation // by DryvernX //------------------------------// Spike stood in front of his adopted mother Princess Celestia, with a face expression made of nothing but surprise. The very reason he's stunned is due to listening to the special confession about himself, his mother just told him about. "Are you okay Spike?" The solar princess and the young drake's mother asked him. She stood down to her knees, to get closer to Spike's eyesight, and gently placed a hand on his shoulder. Spike soon shook the surprise and confusion off his face, and looked up to the alicorn. "M... Mom? What do you mean... that i'm no ordinary dragon?" "Spike. I understand your confusion, and I knew you would be surprised at your current age. I would've told you the truth a few years later, but it seems your confusion and paranoia about yourself made you rush into wanting truth earlier." Celestia told him, making sure that her son was being comforted. Her son then came up with another question in mind. One he wanted to ask since he heard his mother's confession. "Mom? If i'm not an ordinary dragon... then what am I?" Spike asked, while coming up while thinking of plenty possible answers to his own question. "Spike listen. Just because i'm saying you're special, doesn't mean that I see you any different on the inside." Celestia said, trying to calm the drake down. But Spike was too obsessed with the answer, and soon invaded the princess with lots of wild theories. "A hybrid? A dwarf dragon? Or an alien sent to this planet many years ago to destroy everypony and everything in my path?!" Celestia could clearly see Spike's desperation and obsession of hearing more about himself. She now knew it was time to tell him more. Celestia let out a small sigh, and stood up on her feet. "Spike... come with me." "Mom?" Spike asked, as he calmed down with his wild theories. Celestia lifted her drake son gently up to her arms until he was laid on top of her right shoulder. "I'll show you why you're a special dragon." Spike nodded, while Celestia started leaving the kitchen with Spike on her shoulder. Once she left the kitchen entirely, she went past the other castle's rooms, until she made to the chamber that once withheld the Elements Of Harmony. "That's the chamber that withheld the six Elements Of Harmony. Well until the Plunderseed incident of course." Spike thought in his own mind. "Does the answers to my origin lie inside the chamber?" Celestia made a magic key appear in her hands, and opened the lock with it. The chamber's gates were opened, and Celestia walked inside with her son. Spike looked around in the chamber. The room was completely empty beside a lone pedestal that the case, that withheld the Elements once stood. "Okay? We're in an empty room." Spike pointed out, while his adopted mother maintained a calm expression. "You sure ya didn't misguide us or something?" "Spike... watch." Celestia said with a small smile. She went to the old pedestal, and reached her hand toward it. But instead of above the tall pedestal, she reached her hand below it. Once her hand seemed close enough below, she appeared to be pushing something under the pedestal upper part. "CLICK!" It said. Spike then watched to his surprise, a hidden trapdoor on the wall, starting to open at the other side of the chamber. Through the recently opened door, there were a couple of stairs that led to the lower parts of the castle. "Wow. You sure gave this place a lot of features." Spike said, astounded of the feats the chamber has, which were one of the many things he barely knew of. "There are many things I haven't told you Spike." Celestia said. "But today, i'm going to tell you one of them." "Sweet. And I can already guess that down the stairs, contains something that involves me." Spike said. His excitement was burning up like his own fire. Celestia then reached the opened trapdoor, and walked through it, where she walked down the spiral shaped stairs. While walking down, there were slight darkness in their surroundings, but the torches around the staircase made up for it. They reached deeper and deeper into the castle's crypts. "Okay, now i'm unsure if I should feel excited, or really scared right now." Spike said while shaking a bit. Celestia gently scratched Spike's head. "It's alright Spike. We're at our destination in a few seconds." And the drake's adopted mom was indeed correct. The staircase reached it's end, and they both came to a secret room, incredibly unknown to Spike. "What is this room supposed to be?" "You will see very soon my son." Celestia assured him. She reached a nearby switch, and pushed it. Lights above them started to activate, and the room was no longer dark to their eyes. That gave Spike a good glimpse of the whole room. Spike looked around, and saw plenty of carvings on the walls. The first one had the carving of a small yellow dragon above some pony people. The next one had a carving of a huge yellow dragon, which was possibly the same one, fighting a hydra. On the carving it appeared around the same size of a normal adult dragon. And then the third and last one, contained a carving of the yellow dragon, starting to perish and leaving an egg behind. "Uhm... what do those carvings all mean? And what does have to do with me?" Celestia went to the first carving on the walls. "Spike... I want you to meet the image of an old friend of mine." She said, before starting to point at the humongous yellow dragon on the wall. "This here was Sprite, a dragon incredibly different from the other dragons." "Different? How?" Spike asked confused. He was unsure how the painting of the yellow dragon involved himself, but he knew that listening to his adopted mother's story was the better way of getting anywhere than just repeatedly asking questions over and over again. Celestia continued. "Sprite was no ordinary dragon. She was a rare breed known... as a Dragon God." "Dragon God?" Spike asked confused. "I've heard of Dragon Lords, but nothing about gods." "A Dragon God is an extremely rare and powerful breed of dragons. Legends says that this godly breed arises in Equestria once every 1500 years." "Wow. If they come every 1500 years, they sound pretty powerful." "And they are. Dragons who were of this rare and unique breed were considered far superior to both Alicorns, Draconequus, and any kind of magic that could ever exist in Equestria." Celestia explained. Spike was in awe, of hearing they're extreme power. "Maybe I should tell you the whole story, before you get too many questions in mind Spike." Princess Celestia suggested him. Spike could only silently nod to her in agreement. "1500 years ago, a few hundred years before The Tree Of Harmony was found, and 500 years before my sister became Nightmare Moon. I studied dragon eggs. Me and my researchers studied how they evolve inside the eggs from a single organism, into a fully evolved young life form. Each time we finished studying an egg, we returned them to the dragon nests safely. One day while we were looking for more dragon eggs, we stumbled upon a young abandoned, but quite cheerful baby dragoness. Her name was Sprite. Despite her young appearance, we were surprised to hear her real age. She mentioned herself to be around 80. Even I was stunned at her age confession. Normally a dragon should be a teen when their around 30, but Sprite was a special case. We asked her to come with us to our kingdom, which she accepted. We studied her body, but could find no answer for her young appearance despite her age. She even confessed that even herself had no idea why she looked young, but theorized that she was a dwarf in comparison to most dragons." "So she has been a baby for like... 80 years?" Spike asked. He was no doubt surprised of the dragoness of the past could stay that young for so long. "We can say that Spike. But back to the story." She said, before starting to continue her story. "After a few days of staying in me and my sister's castle, she decided to stay there, to probably find an answer to her own questions. Me and my sister didn't mind her staying, so we allowed her to. As the months went by, she was a close assistant and friend of mine. She learned to use her fire breath to send my letters around Equestria back those days, just like you do right now for Twilight, Spike." "Sweet." Spike said. Celestia smiled, before continuing her story. She went for the second carving, which made her smile disappear. "But one day, our kingdom was suddenly attacked by an aggressive and bloodthirsty hydra. The hydra had somehow been provoked enough to go on a huge killing spree. I used my magic to create a huge barrier around the castle, while my sister got everypony to safety. I tried holding it back until they were all safe, but I underestimated the hydra's brutal anger and power, as it soon bashed the barrier so hard that I lost my concentration, and the barrier was weakened enough for the hydra to penetrate it. Hope of protecting the city seemed lost at first, but then Sprite ran up in front of me, while standing in the way of the hydra. She refused to let me and the ponies die by the hands of the hydra, and tried defending me. The hydra was however unfazed by her, and attacked me while ignoring her. But that one action was a big mistake for the hydra, as Sprite was frozen at seeing me getting hurt, her anger boiled every second, her eyes started to turn pure blood red, and her size started to expand by an extreme amount. Sprite was now akin to an adult dragon minus wings. What makes her increased size different, is that instead of getting bigger through being filled by greed, she however was filled with pure rage and anger. But the biggest difference between her and adult dragons was not her sudden size increase. While I was recovering, I felt some strange energy so great, that I never knew somepony could become so powerful, even for a dragon. The battle between the giant sized Sprite and the aggressive hydra was intense. They scratched, bitted, and bashed each other around the kingdom, but neither of them gave up so easily. As I watched the fight, I also witnessed Sprite using something I never thought was possible for dragons. Out of her mouth, instead of breathing fire, she instead breathed a powerful beam of some sort toward the hydra. Even myself is unsure if she was using magic, since it appeared to be, but doesn't feel entirely like magic. That final beam proved to be the finishing blow for the hydra, as it lost every strength of continuing it's fight, and forced to retreat." "Neat story mom. Too bad I didn't bring any popcorn for it." Spike said. "So what happened afterwards?" Celestia's face turned sad, and small tears dropped from her eyes. "Spike..." Spike covered his mouth, and tried comforting his mother. "Mom. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you sad." The princess dried her tears off. "I know Spike. It's just... the outcome of the battle that hurt me more. Much more than the injuries I got from the battle against the hydra." Spike was surprised, but decided to continue listening. "After the hydra had retreated from the fight against Sprite, I suddenly felt her strength and energy dropping repeatedly. She fell to her knees, and then landed on the battleground down on her stomach. It was almost like that she was more than sick. I teleported over to her as quick as possible, and tried to cast my healing spells on her. But to my shock, my healing spells didn't even affect her, and she was losing more and more of her strength by the second. I could feel she was close at dying, and I went off to get medical attention for her as fast as I could. But even when I brought some of the finest doctors to check on her, they said that none of their medicine or magical support could help her current condition. They were even reluctant to tell me that she was going to die. I understood the situation, and couldn't get any of my sorrow out of it. But then to my surprise, before she lost what remained of her life force, she rose her claw up in the air, and used her claw finger to scratch some markings on the ground. That action led to her losing what remained of her energy, and she started to slowly fade away from existence, until there was nothing left of her. I couldn't stop letting my tears drop down from my eyes, while I went for the markings she drew on the ground, which turned out to be a final message for me. I read them carefully, which said;" "Celestia. I may have died from my fight protecting you, but I will always be in your heart. No matter where you are, or wherever I am, I will always be with you. And before I left the castle for you during the hydra's rampage, I left a note for you. Please read it, as a final request for me." "I was surprised that she left a note without my acknowledgement, but I decided to ignore the fact, and do what the note said, as a final request for my long gone friend. I went to her old room which was filled with numerous papers about dragon biology. I was curious of her research for a bit, and then I found the note on her bed." "Dear Princess Celestia, my dearest friend. I've been curious myself of why I was different than the other dragons, so I researched myself a bit, and pulled up numerous theories why I was different. I had one idea where to search for answers, but before I could go searching, I heard the hydra rampage, and decided to write this note if something should happen. If you wanna know more about my mysterious power boost, you should perhaps go to where we first met. There is a cave that I once lived on before we met, that withholds things not even I understood. You should go search for answers there. PS: There's one extra surprise in that cave that might perhaps appeal you." "After having recovered from the battle, along with the city being repaired, I went back to the same place me and Sprite first met; the old dragon nests. I searched around the area, until I found a cave like the note informed. I went into the cave, and saw some strange markings on the walls. The markings revealed dragons that appeared to be worshipped by ponies and other dragons. They stood like gods. Dragon Gods. On the next carving, there were lots of baby dragons. The next one showed some of them having grown to teenage dragons, all but a few dragons, who were still babies in appearance. That was quite a mystery for me, but they appeared to be similar to Sprite, and could probably sprout up in size like she did. Then I found something I wouldn't expect to find; a purple dragon egg." "A purple dragon egg? Wait... was that egg..." Spike shivered a little. "You're indeed correct Spike. That egg was you." Celestia confessed to her son. Spike was now dozens of times more confused of the situation of the past. "So wait... i've been an egg for like 1500 years?!" Spike exclaimed in surprise. Celestia could only nod in reply. "Bu... but how could i've been an egg for so long?" "Allow me to finish." Celestia shushed her son, before deciding to continue the story once more. "I took the purple dragon egg with me back to my castle. I thought that everything could be the same if the egg hatched so that I could have a new assistant just like Sprite used to be. I waited and waited. Days turned to weeks. Weeks turned to months. And months turned to years. But no matter how long I waited, the egg still wouldn't hatch. After having waited for the next 500 years, and having banished my younger sister, I decided to use my magic to check the egg's status. After scanning it with my magic, I felt some special hidden power from the inside. The energy was similar to Sprite's, except weaker, and needed energy to be sustained with. I saw the answer to hatching you, and decided to boost it with magic by a small amount. But even a small amount was enough to exhaust me a little, so I had to support it with magic once every month. But still after a century of supporting the egg, it still wasn't enough. But then one day, almost 1000 years after I banished my sister to the moon, one of the teachers accidentally took the dragon egg, and decided to use it for a test, a young unicorn needed to hatch, in order to pass a magical exam for my school for classed unicorns. She performed magic so great, that you were hatched at the moment it felt her magic course through it. Although you grew a bit too big at first, but she fixed it." Spike gasped in surprise. "Twilight. She sustained me with the magic to finally hatch me." Celestia smiled to him. "Exactly. This is how you were found, and how I found you. If it weren't for Sprite 1500 years ago, you might've still been a dragon egg." "Wow. So does that mean... that i'm... a god?" Spike asked with a big smile, thinking of all the cool stuff he could do. Celestia however shook her head. "That's something even i'm still not sure of. Your background is still filled with unsolved clues." "Aw man. And here I thought of creating an orb of magic, and turning it into a powerful beam. And in the meantime, I could also do a cool stance while charging it." Celestia gave him a grin while giggling. "Keep daydreaming my son." "Just one question. Since my egg was found near where you and Sprite met for the first time, does that mean i'm Sprite's ancestor?" Spike asked. "That's still something that could be possible." "Thanks for the storytelling mom. Your story gives me huge excitement and inspiration. And lots of answers I wanna find out." Spike said. He felt excited since the start of the storytelling, and now felt inspired of it. Then suddenly, Spike's stomach started to growl. "But maybe some lunch would be a great start." "I'll prepare you some lunch for the two of us." Celestia said with a smile. "Now let's get back to the cafeteria. I might have some gems I can offer you." "Sweet." Spike said with a smile. Soon, both Celestia and Spike left the secret room, and up the stairs, to go get some lunch for the latter.
