Fluttershy's Dark Past

Splitting Up

There were no words to describe what had just happened and the rest of the group just looked down at the white abyss their closest and happiest friend had just fallen down to.

“Somepony get RainbowDash!!” Rarity screamed running back into the cave. Though in the back of her mind she knew it was too late she still needed to try.

Rarity ran farther and farther into the cave trying to find out how deep RainbowDash had gone. She galloped as fast as she could, then saw a small spark f fire and she used the last of her energy to get there. She was so close she could hear RainbowDash… talking to somepony?? Rarity slowly trotted closer trying her best not to do anything that will make RainbowDash and the unknown pony stop talking. The walk seemed to take forever, there was no end to how far RainbowDash has gone into the cave and Rarity was just going on because her curiosity was taking the better of her.

She felt as though every step closer she took her body was weighed down some more. It was almost like her own instincts knew that whatever was at the end of her short journey she wouldn’t like it. A chill in the air became more prominent the further in the cavern she went and it was slightly starting to scare her. The closer she got she was finally able to make out what they were saying,

“Are you sure about this RainbowDash” what seemed to sound like Fluttershy say. Rarity stopped dead in her tracks and carried on listening,

“I’m sure Fluttershy now don’t forget to cheer!!” RainbowDash said and the sound of flying could be heard. Rarity got closer wondering why she could see RainbowDash flying already. When she got into sight of the small opening she instantly regretted not following her instincts. For what she saw there was a voice recording, this was the time RainbowDash was attempting a sonic rain-boom. Rarity backed away from the recording and saw a small fire had been lit here. Whoever was here had planted it. So turning around Rarity got ready to run when something was right behind her,

“Shush!! Or she’ll hear you” RainbowDash whispered loudly and put a hoof in front of Rarity’s mouth. Rarity moved her hand out of the way and asked RainbowDash what she was doing behind her.

“When I flew back inside I saw a fire and saw Fluttershy setting that up, so I hid in the top of the cave and waited for her prey to come so I could stop them… you” RainbowDash said before going to push Rarity back to where they came from.
However, this was exactly what Fluttershy wanted. The wall in front of the fell down sealing them off, and the small embers from the set up fire went out leaving the two ponies in utter darkness.

“RainbowDash what do we do now?!?!” Rarity said lighting up her horn. RainbowDash looked at her through the gloom before squinting around and seeing something in the corner of the light.

“There’s a way through there, let’s go and investigate!!” RainbowDash said while flying over to it. But being her calm natured self, Rarity slowly walked up to it making no effort in rushing. RainbowDash sighed in annoyance before dropping to the ground the walk with Rarity. She was going to get no-where without Rarity’s light.

Twilight and the others walked back into the cave feeling depressed. No one spoke a word to anyone else and they all sat in silence. Taking this as an opportunity to read a passage of the diary Twilight called her friends around her as she pulled the book out. Her fellow ponies crowded around, this was the only thing to do to get their mind off mourning their dead friend.

No more. I can’t take it anymore I have to ask Fluttershy where she’s from. We’ve gotten pretty close recently and all she’s told me is that Fluttershy is not her real name. My mind tells me not to dwell deeper in the matter, but how can I not?! Fluttershy was just asking for me to find out more…
I regret even thinking about that.
I had just spoken to Fluttershy about it, she asked me to keep it down and we walked to an area that no pony normally goes to. When we got there she slowly approached me and my hind quarters hit the wall with a mild thud. While I was in a state of fear Fluttershy edged her mouth to my ear and whispered these exact words:
“Stay out of my business or no sight shall come from your point of view” I'm still wondering what she meant by that?? It must have something to do with my eyes… but what…

Twilight put the book down. If only she had read the before Pinkie had gone off to see Fluttershy. Twilight walked over to a wall and started hitting her forehead hard against it imagining what would and could have been if she read the book a little bit earlier.

“Pinkie probably wouldn’t be dead” she whispered to herself. AppleJack walked up to her and put a hoof on Twilight’s shoulder,

“Dun worry hun, we’ll all get through this here pickle” AppleJack said putting on a reassuring face. Twilight nodded to her comforting words and faced the interior of the cave. She glanced over every nook and cranny hoping to find something that would help her through this awful place she put herself. The cogs in her brain were just slowly starting to turn when everything froze in her mind.

“Wh-where’s Rarity and RainbowDash…??” Twilight said looking frantically around trying her best to wish that they would just appear like they were hiding as a joke. AppleJack walked up next to her and squinted into the darker parts of the cave before they both looked to each other and ran into the deeper areas of the cave. Both were at full gallop, but AppleJack being the more athletic pony she sped in front of Twilight without a moment’s hesitation. Twilight tried keeping up with her friend but since she was more of a book worm than speedy crow she fell behind. With her horn to light the way Twilight trotted at a nice pace, her minds panic had calmed down slightly so she was able to think through her thoughts in a more logical way.

AppleJack on the other hand was running through the darkness in a blind fear of what could have happened to her friends. She was close to all of them and her mind was starting to piece together that it was her fault that Pinkie had died. If she had used her calm and down to earth nature Pinkie might have calmed down enough to not run off in hysterics. So straining her legs to the fastest gallop she could muster AppleJack went further into the abyss of never ending torture.
