//------------------------------// // The Enthusiasts // Story: The Hobby. // by Lunasservant1985 //------------------------------// Twilight Sparke blew a thin sheen of dust from the jacket in the School Library, the dust briefly made her let out a little sneeze as she opened the book to read. It was a real find for a book worm like her. It was a first edition copy of the worst disasters of the twentith century. First published at the dawn of this world's new milenium it was a text on the hubris from the sea sinkings to the crashes of air vessels. As she read, her friend Sunset Shimmer sat across from her and read her own volume. "So how's the school library here Twi? I mean now that you can actually read in it instead of making it a temporary home?" Sunset asked as she chuckled softly. "it's been a little harrowing to be honest, I mean I've read so much, and in all honesty not everything is pleaseant to read about this world. she said closing the disaster book. Sunset could only sigh and agree. "I know Twi, thats the price I had to pay when I brushed up on this place, but sometimes...hey did you hear that?" Sunset asked as she heard a soft creaking, like someone was darting around the shelves, this was futher indicated by the footsteps across the carpet followed by a door swishing shut but there was no sound of it clicking into place. "someone's here," Shr said standing up and trying to follow the sound. "Yeah...and? Its a free School library Sunset, they have everyright to be here." Twilight said as she stacked the books on the desk, while Sunset continued to follow the trail. It ultimatley lead her to a small door tucked away in a back corner of the libray, possibly a derelect closet for storing books and supplies. "I'm just curios...why would...hello?" Sunset knocked on the door, the echo was hollow and she pressed an ear to to the frame. Twilght anxiously waited for a respone from within, the knob turned meekly as it swung slowly open. "Yes?" The occupant said fully opening the door, it was Bullseye. A fellow student, he was joined by another student, one neither girl had ever seen before. "Hey guys...fellas uh heh....what are you two doing here? In a closet in the school library?" Twilight asked trying to a glimpse into the room, the walls were all platered with copies of paintings and pictures of a ship at sea. A turn of the century luxury liner by the looks them, with four towering smokestack all but the forth belching out white smoke. A few photos of people in nineteenth century clothes from very rich people in automobiles to a bearded man in a sea captians outfit. "Well girls...I guess all I can say is my friend and I here run Canterlot High's unoffical Titanic club." Bull said as he lead them in and turned up the lights, the posters became more clear to read and they did indded say Titanic and the company who ran it the White Star Line. Twilight and Sunset knew of the "unsinkable ship of dreams." Being the bookish types they were both of them had stubbled upon the subject when they brushed up on the human world's history. It was truly a tradgedy on an epic scale and nothing like it had ever happened back home. Maybe ponies just had uncanny foresight, or a better sense of hubris. "Check these out we just put the final details on this afternoon." The other guy in the room guided Twilight and Sunset to the center of the room, on a table sat two scale models. One was of the Titanic as it was new, all the parts expertly glued together without a seam visable or glue patch. the stern to bow glistened with a fresh coat acrylliac paint. "Wow you guys really put it together a pretty good project for your little club." Twilight said. "It's not our only one, take a look." Bull's friend said lifting a white cover from one side of the table. The second model rested flat on a blue pantied base with detailing to make it look like the ocean floor, the modle was painted dark blue with little bits of detailing made from potter's clay to resemeble the build up of sea debris on the ship's hull. They even put the fallen mast in place where it had crashed into the upper promenade deck. "So you guys really have a thing for the Titanic huh?" Twilight said as she sat down to admire their work on it. Sunset reached for the "intact" model but Bull's friend gingerly made her hand retract away. "Don't it's very delicate...plus the second coat of paints still wet. On account of me and Bull having just put it together today. He said as nice as he could, trying not to look like a jerk or appear over protective of it. "Sorry," Sunset sheepishly and coyly put her hands behind her back and noticed Bull was pulling a projector down from one side of the wall. "Aust and I where just about to close out marathon with a movie...kinda how we started this club." "Bull and I found this room and a bunch of AV equipment that we used to watch movies on fridays after class. Soon we started talking about each other and well, we're both huge fans of the Titanic. It started with putting posters and pictures up to decorate the place." "That lead to stocking up on books, I even found a way to load this old pc game on a computer in the corner." "Titanic Adventure out of time?" Twilight said reading the dusty slightly yellowed box it came it. "Yeah, I know not exactly the best title to make a video game out of, course adventure point and clicks were all the rage back then. Plus its more like an educational game like Oregon Trail." Bull explained as he used a newer computer wired with a projector to cast onto the screen. "Its still fun though." His friend said as the girls could see them digging through a stack of DVD boxes. "So...you guys want to join us? You don't have to join the Titanic club if you don't." He was stopped by Twilight lifting a hand up to shush him as she and Sunset took seats beside the boys close to model table. "Let me guess? Titanic 97 right?" Sunset said with a chuckle. Bull only shook his head as he loaded the disk into the laptop. "Actually its the 1980 movie raise the titanic; we got It, the 1950's movie A Night To Remember, and its not the exact ship but we also have the disaster movie The Posideion Adventure...and the Asylum movie Titanic II." Bull corrected Sunset. "No joke, that last one was real." The other guy added with a laugh, "and it is so hilariously bad! Like you guys can actually see city lights in the background and you can tell it was filmed on a soundstage." He said laughter just barley contained. "Cheesy B-movie and a mockbuster on an Oscar winner? Now you're talking my language." Sunset said in delight. "After the Epic Sunny...one thing at a time." Bull said as the four settled in for a long afternoon.
