Spike's Poem Anthology to Twilight

by Zephyr Spark

The Prisoner

I want to say how much I admire you
But I stand behind bars called words
I must work within their rules
If I want to praise you
Some of my feelings voiced by the pen
But those don’t show my love without end
I want to say how much I cherish you
But I bear chains called symbols
A sentence cannot give you an embrace
My words might charm but they have no face
Nor lips to kiss you and my heart to give
Words may be lovely but they do not live
I want to say how much I love you
But I bear shackles called the world
My mind and soul cannot live out there so they must stay inside me
My love and soul derive sustenance where the world cannot see
Words can only speak a fraction of my art
For words cannot speak the depths of my heart
Just know that you bring this prisoner closer to freedom each day
You help me believe I’ll fling these foolish chains away
Until then, I will follow their law but speak from the soul locked inside
And exclaim soul love from my jaws for you dear Twilight
