Chapter Nine: Fresh Fruit and Smoothies

“Uhh, you can set it over there… thank you.” Fluttershy instructed the mover, crossing one of her legs over the other as she pushed herself back in the nursery’s new gliding rocking chair.

Pushing the newly constructed crib against the room's left wall, the man watched as it's presence filled the spot of darkened carpet left by the now attic stored racecar bed . Standing up straight, the man placed his hands on carpentry belt and hiked it higher up waist a little. “Do you need anything else ma’am?” He questioned

The women glanced over at Scootaloo, who was occupied doing something at her new brightly coloured drawing station, then at the rest of the nursery. She only half recognized the place, with all the furniture short of the changing table, wardrobe, the white futon, and one of the mobiles were removed. She shook her head at the man. Picking up the diaper bag that was just to her right, she and started digging in. “Ooh, no you’re fine. Sorry for the long response, I was thinking about this place.”

The man slowly paced up to Fluttershy and nonchalantly offered her the bill.

Looking up at the piece of paper she grabbed it then handed the man $80.

The mover smiled a little. “Oh, that’s not necessary-“

“No, you take it. You’ve been a big help!” Fluttershy patronized the man, practically pushing the money into his palm.

“Oh- well okay. Thank you.” The man nodded, then walked out the nursery door. Slipping the money into his back packet, he made his way out of the room and down the stair well.

Fluttershy leaned back in her chair and looked down at the bill:

“Wow.” Fluttershy smirked, looking over at her child.

Scootaloo whom was busy colouring in some big bird picture, dropped her crayon and looked over at her aunt. “Ah-wah? Sorry, I was listening to make sure the mover guy left the house.”

Fluttershy chuckled, pulling out her check book. “Ooh, it’s nothing sweetie. I was just looking over the bill.” She said, pulling out one of her silver business pens then jotted down the information. Clicking the pen shut, she tossed the bill, check, and checkbook back into her daughter’s diaper bag alongside her cellphone.

Scootaloo leaned back in her little purple plastic chair and rubbed her eyes yawning. “Oooh-ahhh. I’m sorry. I know we got a lot of stuff.”

“No no- that’s quiet alright dear. I’ve told you money isn’t an issue.” Fluttershy said, rocking in her chair basking in the warm light that radiated from the sunny sky outside. “Just- come here for a moment. I wanna see something.” She said, leaning forward on the rocking chair and balancing herself on the toes of her shoes.

Curiously, Scootaloo hopped out of her seat and toddled over to her aunt. “What is it?” The girl asked, coming to a pause right in front of her aunt.

Fluttershy crossed her arms on her knees and curiously peered at the girl, first she scanned her eyes up and down the girl’s sleeveless emerald sun dress, then she looked up to see the girl’s shaky purple bangs covering her otherwise unblemished baby face.

Scootaloo quite confused by the matter, raised an eyebrow as she felt her aunt comb her long tan fingers through her upkeeped raggedy purple hair.

Looking at the girl’s quickly joyous smile, the women responded in kind. “Heh, well I guess it goes without saying that this new furniture stuff is going to stay. Unless you want to stay in the guest room, this is your new room- er- nursery.”

Giggling, Scootaloo gushed a little as her aunt ran her fingers through her hair again. “Heh, I know. Why wouldn’t I want to keep living in this room. I mean, aside from the kinda boyish wall paper, everything else kinda fits my pop punk princess vibe.” She gushed a little blushing faintly, “for the first time in a long time, I’m kinda feeling like a little girl again.”

“Heh, well that’s good!” Fluttershy smiled, untangling her hand from her niece’s hair. Smirking a little, she leaned back in her seat. “That’s actually what I was getting at. I mean, especially with your outfits, the only thing we could change is your haircut.” The women confessed, “It’s really the only thing left we could change. You’re alrighty such a little cutie pie.”

Blinking, Scootaloo’s thoughts seem to cluster in her mind as she came up with a response, “Oh… well I don’t know. I mean, I wanna look as young as I can, but will it grow back by the time summer is over?”

The corner of Fluttershy’s lips puckered just slightly before she restrained them with an unsettled smirked, “Oh- yeah, school.”. Taking a deep breath, she rocked her head back shutting her eyes for just a second, then refocused her attention on her niece. “Welll, I think you and I both know that your mom is a little- uh- upset right now. I know you haven’t exactly been paying attention to your uh- big girl life- but when I tried turning on your cell phone the other day; the service was disconnected.

“Oh.” The child frowned, nervously grasping at her stomach. Suddenly, the long since boil of her upset tummy came back into full swing. “I-uh- I see.”

“Lovey…” Fluttershy cooed, reaching her hand out and placed it on the girl’s shoulder. She climbed out of her seat, landing on her knees and went in for a full embrace, wrapping the girl in her big strong arms. “Ooh, there’s no need to fret Scootaloo. You know I’m here for you lovey.”

Scootaloo stood at full stature leaning into the hug, embracing her aunt tighter than she’d done in years. She closed her eyes and felt as the window’s radiant light beat down on her face. A warmth seemingly crawled down the back of her head, gagged her throat, and shocked her body into quivering. Just before she broke however, she silence the sensation with a quivered hic, and a deep breath.

“That’s it baby, you’re okay.” Fluttershy comforted the girl, closing her eyes as she ran her hand down the girl’s thinly veiled back.
“I-I.” Scootaloo nervously swallowed, “I’m okay. I kinda knew she wouldn’t want me back.”

Fluttershy looked down at her niece’s back as she rubbed it kindly with her palm. “Ooh, listen Scootaloo. I know you might think that now, but I’m sure we’ll get some clarity one of these days.”

Taking a deep breath, the girl very slowly retracted her hug and let herself fall flat on her diapered backside. Looking up at her aunt, the girl smirked in a frownish kind of manner. “I’m sure we will. I just can’t believe my mom sometimes.”

The aunt sat on her calves, rested her hands on her knees, then nodded. “I know how you feel Scootaloo. It always surprised me your father married her. Margret is just uh- a little unstable I think.”

“I can’t exactly criticize her though.” Scootaloo said, looking around the room. “I mean, just look at me. I could have had decorated this place any way I wanted to and I choose to turn it into a big baby room.”

“It’s called a nursery sweetie.” Fluttershy asserted. Smiling warmly, the women reached out her hand and ran her long white fingers through her niece’s hair like they were a brush, “I know this room might be a little bit childish, but it’s all stuff you chose, and it really suites you well.”

Scootaloo raised her head, tilting her head up just slightly enough so she could look her aunt in the eye. “What do you mean it ‘suites me’?”

Fluttershy retracted her hand and keep a very earnest smile on her face as the words slipped from her mouth, “Well, I mean I think the room is very appropriate for a little one like you.” She confessed, pointing at her niece’s brand new pink and purple furnished white crib. “I mean, sure the furniture kind of clashes with the old wall paper. But the fact that everything is very balanced between a little girl’s princess fantasy and a glitzy girly rock thing fits you nicely. It’s a little tacky, but it’s still cute.”

The girl tilted her head to the side, confused.

“Heh.” Fluttershy sounded as she refocused her attention on her niece’s pale blemish free face. “I think a room like this, one where you can play with dollies, colour, nap, and watch movies without having to feel self-conscience about your real age is important.”

“Oooooh.” Scootaloo sounded, nodding with a small grin, “That makes sense. Although, I still I could still feel little in a big person room too you know?”

Fluttershy looked down at her niece’s Jumping Joy Trainers and then back up at her bubbly face with a snarky grin, “Hmm, maybe we can cut your hair and send you to school! Assuming you’re okay with being seen as a baby, you shouldn’t have any trouble going into school with a bob haircut and your diapers. Right?”

“Hehehe!” Scootaloo giggled, hopping up and down playfully as she hiked her wrist up to her chest, “Noooo.”

Taking note of her Scootaloo’s silly posture, the aunt couldn’t help but take note of how her niece’s green sundress was caught in the elastic of her diaper. “Hehe, well we can decide on what to do for school later Scooty Booty” she said as she tugged the dress’s fabric out of the confines of her niece’s Pampers, “All I know is if mother nature wanted you to be a big girl, she would’ve given you a more womanly body by now.”

The child blushed a little bit at her caretaker’s sentiment but smiled, “Heh. Well growing up is dumb. Why would I ever want to not be a little kid?”

“I guess you’re right!” Fluttershy agreed, getting off her knees and standing up. “But, look at it this way…”

Staring up at her Fluttershy’s busty chest and flowy pink hair, Scootaloo couldn’t help but be drawn into the women’s gaze as she listened to her words.

Being she was almost twice her niece’s height, the women hunkered her hands on her hips and leaned down to look at the girl. “Because I’m an ADULT, I can choose what I want to eat for lunch and what YOU want to eat for lunch!” Fluttershy teased.

“But you can’t MAKE me want to eat something for lunch.” Scootaloo very innocently corrected.

Blowing cool air from her nose, Fluttershy closed her eyes and chuckled. “Heh, you’ve got your dad’s smarty pants I see.” She said, correcting her posture as she broke her hands off of her hips and folded them against her tummy.

“Hehe, I know.” The child giggled.

“Well, anyway we need to get you fed still. But first, we gotta do something about that dress of yours.” She said, signaling for her niece to come closer with a flick of her finger, “We might have our fair share of bibs are here, but I really don’t want to risk a stain.”

Walking up to her niece, Fluttershy reached down and grabbed her niece’s bright green sun dress by their shoulder straps and slowly tugged it over her head.

“Nyah!” Scootaloo sounded as she raised her tiny hands in the air and helped yank the very last of her dress’s clingy fabric from her forehead, which left her hair cut even more confuzzled than usual.

Satisfied with her niece’s appearance, the aunt tossed the dress aside and to rustled Scootaloo’s already messy hair.

Scootaloo looked up and beamed with a jovial “Heeey!” then broke into a fit of giggles.

“That’s a good girl. Now come on Scootaloo, we need to get you some food in your tummy.” The women said, moseying her way over to the door at a pace that her little one could keep up.

***

From her moon-decorated kitchen throne, Scootaloo kept her head and body slumped back, idly staring as caretaker scrambled back and forth from the kitchen to the cabinet. Tilted her head on her shoulder, she spread her legs a little to unstick her inner thighs from the plastic leg divider underneath her tray.

She was admittedly excited for lunch. Despite her big breakfast and growing constipation, her aunt insisted that she had the perfect meal to help with her tummy. Unfortunately for her, that ‘meal’ seemed to be some sort of pureed fresh fruit concoction.

“Fluttershy- I don’t want baby food!” the child cried vainly for the third time, watching as her aunt once again rolled her eyes.

“Please.” Fluttershy smirked, continuing to calmly slice the strawberry’s green stems off of it’s respective fruit. She graced the sharp edge of her knife across the thing’s red outer coating, pressing down and severing the bulk of its contents from the rest of the berry. She repeated this process several times until she had added six new slices into the pulpy pile of fresh fruit. “I’m not making you baby food Scootaloo. You can’t even make baby food out of fruit.” She idly mentioned

Reaching over to her left, she pulled the blender’s mixing container from off the base and shoved her cutting board’s various contents into the container. Once all the ingredients were in, she set the shaving cup on the blender and set it on its ‘puree’ setting.

‘Besides’ Scootaloo heard her caretaker’s words, followed by the harsh humming sound of the blender as it’s blades spun at full speed. Her eyes shifted focus to the fresh fruit being neatly obliterated in the cup right in front of her aunt.

Picking up the rubber feeding spoon she’d laid out just in case, Fluttershy twirled it in between her fingers giving it a quick examination of it with her eyes. Smiling slightly, she looked over at her child with a devilish expression.

“Besides what?” Scootaloo asked, tugging her shirt sleeve from underneath the highchair’s shoulder straps. She scooted back into her seat a bit, trying to adjust her diaper up her waist a little.

Fluttershy smiled, taking the contents of her child’s pulpy smoothied fruit and gradually spooned them into a yellow plastic cup. Then she stuck a little bend straw into the purplish looking mush. “Besides, I’ve got baby food if or when you need it.” The women answered, walking up to her niece with the beverage and a happy confident strut.

“But baby food is gross!” Scootaloo pouted, as the smoothie-like blend was set on top her highchair’s tray along with the rubber feeding spoon. Puckering her eyebrows, she curiously picked the big yellow cup up in the air using both of her hands and brought the straw to her lips.

Folding her arms, Fluttershy gave the girl a delighted look as she watched Scootaloo’s eyes light up with excitement of tasting it for the first time. “Heh, well I told you once and I’ll tell you again. Don’t act up and you won’t get any baby food.” The women added.

Pulling the cup away from her lips for just a sec, she looked up at her aunt with a bubbly grin and giggled, “Hehe, tasty. But uh- could I not eat baby food please? I’m really not a big fan of mushy textures.”

“Uh- you do like your smoothie don’t you?” Fluttershy asked, rubbing her hand on the side of her pants as to get rid of any fruit pulp from her hand. “I mean, there’s no way that drink is anything but gooey mush.”

“Yeah I like it.” Scootaloo admitted, kicking her legs a little as she brought the straw back up to her lips taking a curious sip as if to reaffirm her taste. A rush of blended berries both tart and sweet swepted over her tounge, forcing the corners of her mouth to peak upwards in a bit of happiness. “Heh, I mean this is good because I really like fruit and it’s really fresh. But baby food is always gross and processed. Especially anything that’s cheesy.” The child grimaced.

Fluttershy snickered, walking her way back over to the kitchen sink. “Heh, I’m not a monster Scootaloo. No, the worst baby food I have is probably the broccoli flavor.”

“Broccoli has a flavor?” The child quipped, raising an eyebrow.

The women shook her head. “No, real broccoli doesn’t have a flavor, at least not a strong one. But then again, neither do strained peas or carrots. Both of which I also happen to have.” The women jested, flaunting her cadence as if her collection of baby food was really something to be proud of. Grabbing her her cutting board and stuck it into the sink, then began scrubbing it off with a soapy sponge.

Scootaloo leaned back in her highchair looking at the white speckled ceiling as she took another big sip of her fruity smoothie. Her posture faulted, leaving her idly pressed into the comfy confines of the highchair and it’s cushy padding. Typically, not wearing any socks- and especially not wearing any pants would made her uncomfortable. But between the warmth of the summer air and the cool texture of her drink soothing and tongue, she fell into transient state of comfort drifting back in her seat and letting her scattered thoughts take control.

Fluttershy continued to clean the few dirty dishes she’d created through preparation. While her hands remained busy in the sink, her eyes her drifted over at Scootaloo to see how she was enjoying her snack. To her surprise, Scootaloo seemed so enamored by the flavor of the drink, that she kept her lips wrapped around the straw device at all times- occasionally shifting her eye sight to nothing in particular located in the kitchen.

Inevitably child looked over at her aunt and locked eyes with her. To which, the two smiled lovingly at each other.
