//------------------------------// // Chapter 4: Standing Together // Story: The Dawn Follows the Sunset // by JesterintheNight //------------------------------// The Dawn follows the Sunset Chapter 4: Standing Together The next day had come rather quickly, Dawning haven’t seen the new girl since their strange meeting. Though he had heard from a few people that she had signed up to be Princess of the Fall Formal, again she must be an escape mental patient. She was setting herself up to be buried by Sunny, speaking of her. She hadn’t text him, called him, or emailed him. Granted she didn’t normally but whenever they had a fight like that it didn’t take long for her to say something. “I got the feeling she doesn’t intend to talk to me…” Dawn said looking out the window at the track field. “Who won’t?” Someone asked, turning his head up he was greeted by Rainbow who sat down in front of him. He laughed under his breath a bit shaking his head. “No one. Don’t worry about it.” He said, she tilted her head at him a bit confused but smiled. “Did ya see it yet?” She said holding her phone up, he looked at her again. “See it? Make a video on how many times you crash again?” He teased, she glared at him “You’re an ass!” She said, he rolled his eyes at her. “You could put Jackass to shame with your crashes.” He fired back, Rainbow growled under her breath. He only smiled at her as her like nothing was wrong, after a few minutes of fuming at him she relaxed. Then showed him what she was talking about… “It’s the new girl…” Dawning said as he watched Rainbow Dash’s phone playing a video, the new girl was in the library. Using the computer like an animal, picking up books with her mouth, being blinded by the copier because she looked right into the light. Making a huge mess, even knocking down a few bookshelves… “Wow… who made this?” He asked, Rainbow closed her flip phone shrugging. “Beats me, everyone got it sent to their school emails” She said, he blinked a bit confused he never got an email. Opening his phone up, he opened his school email. Nothing had been sent to him in the last 4 days, last thing he got was an email from Principal Celestia to all students about the Fall Formal. “I didn’t get it.” He said, Rainbow shrugged turning around as Miss. Cheerilee came in to start the day. First period went by quickly as Dawning thought about who might have record the video of the new girl, though he had a sneaking idea of who it was. Sunny must have ordered Snips and Snails to follow the newbie, wasn’t hard to figure out why. Sunny took something from her, newbie stood up to Sunny, and worse off she was challenging Sunny for the Fall Formal crown. “You got free time right?” Rainbow said, Dawning looked out the window not seeming to hear her as he zoned out to his thoughts. “Helloooo D…D?” She waved her hand in front of his face, though he still didn’t react til she reached over to his ear pulling it. “OW!” He cried out, she smirked at him as he moved away rubbing his ear. “Geez mom what is it?!” He said glaring at her, keeping her smirk she picked up her school bag. “Come on, I’m gonna kick a few balls.” She said walking away, he laughed once at her “Sorry I like mine.” She stopped for a moment before glaring at him her face slightly pink, he picked up his bag and walked right past her with a smirk. “I could use the practice anyway.” He stated, she ran after him quickly as they used their free period to get some practice in. Going out onto the track which circled around the soccer field, Rainbow went to the shed getting a bin full of soccer balls. Dawn had tossed his backpack on the bleachers, slipping off his olive drab vest as well. He moved to the goal posts and leaned against one of them as Rainbow came out with bin, taking one of the ball out she smirked at him. “Ready D!?” She cried out, Dawn moved to the center of the goal crouching down. Reaching into his back pocket he took out a pair of goalee gloves pulling them on quickly, he smirked back at her. “Bring it.” Rainbow threw the ball into the air, as it came down she struck it hard with her foot sending it flying to the right of the goal. Dawn’s eyes snapped to the ball before he jumped in the way of it, blocking it with one hand it was sent off to the side. “Incoming!” She screamed, Dawn turned to see two more white and black spotted balls. He kicked one out of the way of the goal, and head butting the other to the side. Grasping his head, he could feel his brain spinning, ow maybe that wasn’t a bright idea he thought. As he opened his eyes he saw another ball fly right for his face, quickly raising his hand he smacked it aside. Shaking his hand a bit to push the numbing feeling it now had, she was going all out in her kicks. “What’s a matter the Vice-Captain can’t keep up with my awesomeness?” Rainbow said with a smug grin, Dawn glared at her a bit. “You’re only Captain because I was sick the day they had try outs!” Rainbow rolled her eyes at him keeping her smug grin. “Oh yeah? Then you should challenge me to take over.” He laughed lightly before kicking one of the soccer balls right at Rainbow Dash whose eyes widen before she dodged to the side. The ball soared right past her into the opposite goal, Dawn crossed his arms with his own smug grin. “Na it would be too eas…. Oh we have guests…” Dawn’s smug grin vanished as he pointed behind Rainbow Dash she turned around to see a girl with tan skin, a Stetson on her blondish almost straw colored hair. She wore cowbo-cowgirl boots, a demin blue skirt and a white blouse with blue collar. Her emerald green eyes were locked on Rainbow Dash as she walked up to her, Rainbow glared at her. “Uh-oh…” Dawns eyes moved to four other girls who were watching them from the side lines, one of them was Fluttershy, the new girl, a rather refined looking young lady as she would prefer to be called. She had an almost marshmallow white skin, azure eyes that he was sure could make any man’s heart melt. Her purple hair done up almost like a fashion model, and her stance matched the style. She had on knee high purple boots with a diamond on the side of them, her skirt matched the color of her boots. Though she had on light blue blouse, an elegant air surrounded her. The fourth girl had a bubble gum pink skin color, and an almost hot pink hair that looked like cotton candy. And which Dawn was sure was a portal to another world given how she pulls things out some times, but she had light blue eyes. A pinkish purple skirt with blue boots, though there was a small ribbon on the front of each of them. A white blouse with a pink heart in the center, and a light blue opened tee shirt that matched her boots. Light blue wrist bands, and finally three balloons two light blues ones with a yellow one in the center on her skirt. Dawn’s eyes moved back to the two girls talking quietly to themselves, sensing a slight air of awkwardness he moved to the elegant girl. “Hey Rarity, what’s going on?” He asked, she smiled at him batting her eyelashes a bit. “Well darling, it seems there was a misunderstanding. And Applejack is trying to work it out with Rainbow Dash.” She said, brushing her hair aside once she kept a slightly flirty smile on her lips. “Ah… Sup Pink?” D said saluting to her in greeting, she waved to him before bouncing over to his other side having him sandwiched between two girls. Which from what he knew about most the guys at CHS would be a dream come true, all of them turned their eyes over to the two who were chatting out of ear shot. “I say they fight to the death to mend their friendship…” D suggested, earning him a giggle from Pinkie, a slightly panicked ‘Eep’ from Fluttershy, an eye roll from Rarity and finally a genuine look of concern from the new girl who didn’t seem to get the joke. Though thankfully there wasn’t any head cutting off in the end as to two girls hugged officially mending everything. The two walked back to the five standing on the sidelines, arms around each other’s shoulders like it was just a normal day. “Darn and here I was hoping you two would battle it out… My moneys on RD.” D joked, Rarity cleared her through dismissing his words. Though Rainbow smirked having her closest guy friend on her side, Applejack glared at him though he knew it wasn’t a serious one. Rainbow looked to the new girl who was now on her feet, though she wasn’t as shaky as the day before. “So you wanna take on Sunset Shimmer huh?” RD asked, the new girl nodded lightly to her. She then turned to D who raised his eyebrow at her, she was seriously going after Sunny? What did this girl lose to Sunny that was worth starting a war with the one girl who tore everything apart behind closed doors? Though not many student knew this little fact, expect for a handful who knew Sunny’s nature. D being the main one… “By the way we were never fully introduced, I’m Twilight Sparkle.” She said, before bowing her head. D blinked a bit confused, was she Asian or something bowing is pretty formal for a greeting. RD looked between the two of them looking a bit confused. “You two met?” She asked, D nodded once. “Yeah, I skipped second period yesterday cause I didn’t feel like duking it out with at dodgeball. I went to my normal place for a drink and ran into her out front the school.” He replied seeming very uninterested in what was going on, which RD knew was just his way of responding to things dealing with Sunset Shimmer. Twilight stood up turning her attention back to Rainbow Dash, who started to kick a soccer ball absent mindedly. “Well anyway, I got to say I’m all for that. But you got to prove yourself to me first.” She said before kicking the ball into the air and catching the ball, she then pointed her finger at Twilight then to the soccer field. “By beating me, first to five wins!” Twilight’s face dropped at RD’s challenge, who in returned kicked the soccer ball clear over her head and into the goal joining D’s previous ball. “First points mine!” She said running out onto the field, D sighed lightly shaking his head. “The massacre begins” He said walking to the bleachers sitting down beside his backpack, and taking out a can of Red Stallion. The rest of the girls minus Twilight and Rainbow joined him on the bleachers, Pinkie quickly stole D’s drink taking a few sips much to Rarity’s disgust. She then passed it to AJ who was sitting on the bench above she took a few sips as well, D just watched with a small amount of annoyance. “That’s my last one…” He said, AJ smirked at him with a wink. “Ya’ll just skip class anyway to grab more later.” She said not bothering to return it, okay she was right about that he was gonna. But still it was the principal of the whole thing, sighing with defeat he looked to the field as he leaned back against the bench. Buuut not before glancing back at AJ who noticed his look, she raised an eyebrow as she looked over the can at him. “Green really suits you…” Was all he said before looking back at the field, AJ took the can from her lips confused for a moment. That was until her normal bronze colored freckled cheeks turned bright red, one hand moved to her skirt shoving it down so it was between her legs. “YOU LITTLE!?” She cried out, D quickly jumped off the bench as she lashed out with one leg. Nearly taking his head off, and almost hitting Rarity instead. Who D took into consideration and pushed a bit to the side when he moved so she’d be out of the firing zone. AJ didn’t have RD’s speed or skill in sport but what she didn’t have she made up for in pure power, that could send him to the nurse if he wasn’t careful. “Got to go!” D cried out, Rarity was on her side smiling at him. “Such a gentleman” She said with a teasing wink, Pinkie was giggling like she normally did. The Fluttershy was just confused, and the two girls on the field were just even more confused. D grabbed his bag, and went for his vest but AJ beat him to it grabbing on it. “Come and get it cowboy~” She said in a teasing tone that was full of venom, the blush still clearly on her. She was challenging him, a challenge he would have to say… “Fuck that!” D took off in the run with only backpack in tow, he would live to fight another day. “Ya’ll a chicken!” She screamed, D hopped the small fence between the field to the road out front the school. “Yes but this chicken just flew the coop!” He screamed back, waving all the girls minus a furious Applejack waved goodbye to him for now. So a vestless Dawning started his quest for more Red Stallion at least he had time to grab some before lunch. And he was sure RD could snatch back his vest for later, at least he hoped so she did owe him for a new steering wheel… “Worst case… I get Big Mac to help me steal it back…” He said with a small smile, shaking his head he continued down the sidewalk heading to his normal hideout. The local corner store, as he stepped into the store greeting the normal cashier and moved to the back of the store to the fridge he paused. “Sunny.” He said, turning to look at the corner of the store. Sure enough his once bacon colored hair friend was there, a Red Stallion drink in her hands. With a small flick of her arm she threw it to him, which he caught effortlessly. He squeezed the can once feeling the pressure, it wasn’t shaken at least. Popping the top, the normal mist flowed from the top which he took a small sip. Not poisoned he hoped, tasted fine leaning on the corner shelf he watched her. Her cyan eyes locked onto his as if searching for something, after a full minute she finally spoke. “I hear you’ve been talking to Twilight Sparkle.” She said, it didn’t sound like much of a gossip fact like ‘I know you did’ sound. “Yes mom, I was talking to the new girl.” A small twitch pulled at the corner of her lips, she almost smiled at him but she held strong. “I’m going to warn you only once, stay away from her. Or you’ll be in the same boat as her.” She warned, though her tone was harsh D could sense something else. A desire to say more, but she didn’t just walk past him bumming into his shoulder with her own. As she past D sniffed the air once, he caught the faint scent of something… “You’re wearing it.” He said, his eyes moved in her direction but not enough to see her. He knew though she was frozen mid step, it was quite for a moment until she spoke. “Well….it was a birthday gift.” Sunny said a somewhat hurt tone of voice, he nodded once. “Yeah it was… why didn’t you wear it yesterday? Were you planning to try impressing me?” He asked, taking a small sip from his can he could faintly hear the carbonation bubbling. The footsteps got quieter as she walked away from him, the DING from the front door almost echoed in the door with how quiet it was. Sighing lightly D moved to the front counter, paid for his drink and swiftly exited the store without a sound. As he stepped outside hearing the DING fade away as the door closed he glanced down the road towards the school. No sign of Sunny, which meant she was running back to school. Despite the boots she wore, Sunny is very athletic he knew that because she once tried out track at his suggestion. But turned down the offer to join saying she just wanted to see if she could do it. “She’s a weird one.” He said to himself, sipping his drink he moved down the road in the direction of the school. Period would end soon which ment lunch time afterwards, so he picked up the pace… … ….. “He actually noticed…” Sunny said to herself as she watched him going back to the school, her hand tightly squeezing her left forearm she did this when she was frustrated. And this whole situation with Twilight Sparkle was complicated enough but with Dawning Star involved it got so much harder. She had a goal, to take over the school, secure the crown, and take her revenge on Princess Celestia. And do that she needed an army to bend to her will, but he… he wasn’t supposed to be part of it. “But if you’re going to stand in my Daws… I’ll take you down.” Her words harsh but in her heart, she didn’t feel her words carrying any real weight aside from the weight of guilt. Daws was there for her since she arrived to the school, he showed her the whole school, the town at Vice Principal Luna’s request but he didn’t seem bothered by it. He seemed to smile the whole time, a carefree and calming smile. A smile that earned him friends quickly, she hated to admit it but that smile won her over at first too. And even now that smile made her waiver from her goals, but she couldn’t she needed to claim what was truly hers. Looking up at him once more she saw he was gone, so stepping out of the shadows beside the corner store she moved after him. The whole time she followed his words echoed in her mind… “You’re wearing it…”
