Canterlot, Night....
Sombra and Chrysalis had just finished up their date and were headed home. "Today was perfect.", Chrysalis said with a blissful smile. "Sometimes I can't believe this moment almost never happened."
"We've got the rangers to thank for that.", Sombra answered with a chuckle. Sombra was about to continue, but he sensed something. "Chrysalis. I don't think we're alone." An armored figure stepped out of the shadows in front of Sombra and Chrysalis.
"Burst?", Chrysalis asked. "I didn't think you and the rangers patrolled the city at night. Don't you have school?"
Sombra's eyes narrowed as he sensed the energy coming from this being. "Chrysalis. RUN. Run now."
"Sombra? What're you-?"
"Chryssi. That's NOT Burst." Sombra fired up his magic. "Go. NOW!" The false ranger charged at Sombra as Chrysalis ran! Sombra blocked the punch that was aimed at his head! "I don't know who you are, but why're you attacking us?!"
"Creatures like you don't deserve any answers.", the false ranger answered coldly. "Prepare to meet oblivion!" The false ranger sent Sombra flying with a powerful punch! Sombra recovered and blasted the false ranger into a wall. The false ranger just stepped out of the imprint he left and dusted himself off. "Hmph. I expected better from a villain like you."
"I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe Chrysalis and I were villains once. But now we've been living a normal life. And then you come along and attack us. And you do so wearing the guise of one of the Duelist Rangers. I don't know what makes you think they'd conduct such behavior, but you disgrace them by even imitating their appearance!" Sombra fired another blast of magic, but it barel had any effect on the false ranger! "What...what are you?" The false ranger rushed up to Sombra and grabbed him by the throat!
"What am I? I'm the hero the Duelist Rangers don't have the guts to be.", the false ranger answered with what Sombra assumed was a sneer under his helmet. The false ranger then punched Sombra in the stomach before releasing him! "How disappointing. I guess I'll just have to wait until a new foe comes along to prove myself as a hero. Have a nice night." The false ranger activated his suit's wings and flew off! As Sombra slowly got to his feet, Chrysalis rushed up to him!
"Sombra!" Chrysalis helped Sombra walk as they headed home. "Are you hurt badly?"
"Just my stomach. And my pride....", Sombra joked.
"Why would that guy attack us? He's a Duelist Ranger like Burst and the others!"
"No. He's no ranger.", Sombra said flatly before scowling in the direction the false ranger had flown off in. "And he's no hero either. We'd better alert the real rangers tomorrow. Right now? I think I'd better focus on recovering."
The next morning...
Burst woke up with a yawn as he stretched his body. "Ah, Saturday. First time I've been able to actually enjoy it for a long while." Burst got changed and ready before going downstairs for breakfast. Moon was waiting for him as he sat down with her. "Morning beautiful."
"Nice to see you're awake.", Moon said with a smile. "Nice to finally have a break from all the excitement, isn't it?"
Burst nodded. "Yeah. No more monsters sent for us to fight on an almost weekly basis, and no crazy villains to deal with as of yet. Thing's have been pretty quiet. I've also got more freetime to spend with you and Celestia. Speaking of which, did the two of you want to do anything today?"
"I was thinking something simple like just having a lunch date.", Moon beamed.
"Sounds perfect. After all, I'm pretty sure that us fighting monsters and forming the Megazord doesn't count as a real date.", Burst joked. "Just gotta text Celestia." Burst pulled out his phone and turned it on, he noticed that he had a new text message. "Huh. From Chrysalis and Sombra." Burst opened up the text, and his eyes went wide. "Change of plans Moon. We're headed off to meet with Sombra and Chrysalis."
"What? Why?"
"This is why." Burst showed Moon the text, and her eyes went wide! "Yeah. It's pretty serious. I'll text the others to come to. Whoever did this, they sure didn't mind attacking them while their guard was down." Burst and Moon left, and soon met with the others to talk to Chrysalis and Sombra. "It was last night that you two were attacked. Right?"
Sombra nodded. "I got banged up pretty bad, but I'll live. But the scariest part is WHO our attacker was. Burst...he looked like a Duelist Ranger. Even more disturbing is the fact that the armor he wore looked almost exactly like yours. But whoever it was under that armor, it wasn't you."
"What do you mean?"
"I read the person's energy. Your energy has an aura of light. But this attacker? He was radiating darkness."
"How'd you manage to beat him?", Moon asked.
"He didn't.", Chrysalis said gravely. "After he trashed Sombra, he flew off. Saying something about finding a worthy foe to slay and prove himself as a hero. Hmph. I'd hate to see what he considers a villain if these are 'heroic actions' in that creep's eyes."
"Gold?", Burst asked. "Can you get in touch with your dad? We need to know if any morphers have gone missing."
"I'm on it Burst." Gold called up his dad to check if any morphers were stolen or missing. Meanwhile, Burst and the others continued questioning Sombra and Chrysalis.
"Was there anything else different about this 'false ranger'?", Inferno asked.
"Actually, yes. The color of his armor was darker than Burst's. One could say it reflected the feeling I got from him.", Sombra said.
Gold had hung up his phone. "Guys. There's no morphers missing. And the newest ones my dad was working on are still in development."
"But how could this guy have a morpher?", Rainbow Dash asked.
"I don't know, and neither does my dad.", Gold said with sigh.
"Well whoever this guy is, he sounds like bad news.", Inferno stated. "He might try to give us a bad name."
"Let's be honest. We don't know anything except for the fact he targeted Chrysalis and Sombra. But the only reason he'd attack them is if he knew they were once villains before hand. Whoever this guy is, we can't let him run free. We'll just have to wait until he makes his next move. Until then, I say we try to enjoy what time we've got left for the day." Burst then turned to Sombra and Chrysalis. "In the meantime, you two feel free to stay at the command center if you need any extra security."
"Sounds like overkill. But thanks for the offer.", Chrysalis said as she helped Sombra walk back home.
Burst sighed. "So much for things going back to normal..."
