//------------------------------// // A Tale of Chivalry // Story: The Spike Poem Anthology II // by Zephyr Spark //------------------------------// The little princess gazed from the lonely, stony tower to the lonely, barren plain below. Trapped within the stone prison, she stared out the window to the emptiness, praying for the arrival of a hero, of her hero. When he failed to approach, she turned away from the window, face stained with tears. A blaring trumpet shook the land, rekindling her hope. The princess’ lovely eyes beheld her loyal knight clad in armor, standing boldly before the tower, challenging his foolish enemies who dared to steal his lady. As the villainous scum surged towards him like a malevolent flood, he placed the trumpet back on his back and drew his sword and shield with steadfast determination. Waves of enemies fell before his noble might as he cleaved through his foes and rushed to the tower. From her prison, the fair maiden called to him. Finally, he saw his princess. Sparing a moment to cast a reassuring smile to his lady, he raced through the barred door, up the steps, crushing all who opposed him, and at last, broke through her prison. Sheathing his sword, he kneeled before his lady and spoke, “By my courage wrought from your virtuous heart and lovely gaze, I have found ye once again. Please forgive me for my weakness; had I paid greater heed to your warnings, I would not have been deceived by the foul emperor. I shall endeavor to defeat him who sought to offend thy honor, I swear it.” His lady smiled kindly upon her savior, “Noble Sir Knight. I do indeed forgive thee and thank ye for your service. T’was only by knowledge of thy loyal heart I could endure this tortuous imprisonment.” Together, they left lonely tower and the lonely plains, departing for their beloved kingdom. Hearts united against this threat, they would overcome this threat as they did any: with protector and strength side by side.
