Chapter 10: Picnic

I woke up to small whimpers and sobs. I looked behind me and saw that Rainbow was still asleep. I looked over and saw that Silver was crying in her bed. I got up and crept over to her. The small filly was tossing and turning in her bed. I lifted her up and the crying slowed to small whines. I hummed to her softly and rocked her gently in my hooves. Her breathing steadied and turned to small snores. I placed her back under the sheets and kissed her on the head. I turned back and saw Rainbow sitting up and smiling at me.

"That was pretty smooth, Breeze." she whispered.

"Thank you, Dashie." I whispered back.

I crawled under the sheets and snuggled up to her once again. The crickets outside calmed me and brought me into a smooth slumber.

I opened my eyes and rubbed my head. I looked around me. I saw that Rainbow had gotten up before me. This was a rare sight to see. Rainbow loved to sleep in, but today, she was up before me. I got out of the bed and slowly moved to her. She was holding Silver in her hooves and smiling down at her. I moved next to her and wrapped a hoof around her shoulder and pulled her into a kiss. We both looked down at the sleeping filly, who was snoring softly.

"Dash, do you think we'll be good parents?' I asked her.

"Hay yeah! We'll be the best! And if not, we go through it together." she said snuggling up my neck

"Well..." I said walking to my dresser. I reached in and pulled out a small black box and held it behind my back to hide it from her sight. I moved back to her and sat back down in front of her. She turned to face towards me and smiled. "How do you think we'll be as a married couple?' I said holding the box in front of her and opening the top.

"What do you say Dash? Will you marry me?" I said holding out the box to her.

Her jaw dropped as she saw the diamond bracelet inside. She set Silver down on the ground in between us. Dash lifted the bracelet from the box and the smile grew on her face. She slipped the bracelet on her hoof and looked back up to me.

"Of course, I'll marry you, Breeze!' She shrieked and pulled me into a hug.

Silver looked up at us and watched our embrace. She began to giggle and her wings started to buzz. We looked down at the little filly and saw her look out the window. She looked back to us like she was begging to go outside. I opened the window and picked her up. I held her in my hooves and carried her down below to the front yard. I sat under the tree in the shade. Rainbow flew out the window and sat next to us. We played with Silver under the tree. I flew up to the tree and grabbed an apple off a branch. I looked at the filly and rolled it to her. She picked up the apple and began to suck on it. I watched and laughed at the adorable scene. Rainbow went inside and brought out a small white bottle. She picked up Silver and held the bottle to her mouth. Silver sucked the liquid out of the bottle quite quickly. I looked shocked at Rainbow as she knew exactly what she needed,

"How did you know she needed that?" I asked Rainbow.

"I baby sat before, Duh! Besides I know what I'm doing." she said sounding self-confident. Silver pulled her lips from the bottle and let out small whimpers.

"Ya sure about that?" I asked her with a small laugh.

Rainbow laid Silver over her shoulder and began to pat her back. The little filly let out a small burp and began to giggle. And her crying stopped. Rainbow looked back towards me with her confident attitude showing on her face again.

"You know it!' she laughed.

We sat in the shade under the tree with our filly and played with her. I watched her crawl over to me and grab my leg. She looked up at me and began to giggle. I laid on my back and she hopped on my stomach. She crawled into a ball and slept on my chest. I watched as she raised and lowered on my chest as I breathed. My breathing rocked her to sleep and Dash laid on her side next to me. We both looked at each other starred into the sky. The clouds were glowing a orange and pink. They contorted and morphed into unknown shapes and different sizes. I couldn't believe it. I had a beautiful mare-friend who will be my wife and a daughter. They meant the world to me, and nothing else mattered at the time. A tear rolled down my cheek and I began to smile.

"Um... Why are you crying?' Rainbow asked me placing a hoof on my shoulder.

"I'm so happy for us Dashie." I said, holding her hoof. We're a family now, can you believe it?" I said looking back up to the sky.

"Heh... No I can't. I never thought this day would arrive. Let alone so quickly." She said rubbing Silver's back.

"Well, the day is here, Dashie. We've got a beautiful daughter and we're engaged." I said putting my hooves behind my head in the grass.

We watched as the clouds passed above us. The sun was setting behind a hill in the distance. We sat in my back yard and watched it slowly fall behind the hill. Silver had fallen asleep again but in between us. She fell asleep on the grass and snored softly. I watched as she slowly moved in her sleep. Once the sun fully made it's way behind the hill, we moved inside and ate dinner. Dash and I made sandwiches. Silver had to eat this weird baby food made from squashed carrots. Rainbow fed Silver than took her upstairs to bed. I followed her to our room and wrapped a hoof on her shoulder. She placed Silver in her bed and I kissed her goodnight. Rainbow and I moved back downstairs to enjoy the rest of the night togeather.

A few days passed and I was up early in the morning. I checked on SIlver to see if she was alright. She was still sleeping, just like her mother. I looked back to Dash and saw her sleeping too. I trotted downstairs and grabbed a cup of coffee. I sat in a chair next to a window and watched as the sun began to rise. The summer weather was perfect for what I had planned today for us. I would take Dash and Silver out to a picnic in the park today. I walked into the kitchen and prepared the basket for our lunch. Rainbow came downstairs with Silver in her hooves. She grabbed the bottle from the fridge and began to feed Silver.

"What are you doing?" she asked me holding the bottle in Silver's mouth.

"I am packing a picnic for us. What do you think?" I asked returning to the pantry to gather some more food.

"I think a picnic would be awesome." she said.

"When your done feeding Silver, would you like some breakfast?" I asked holding up some oatmeal.

"Hay yeah! I'm starving." she said looking at me with hunger in her eyes.

I made the oatmeal and poured it into a bowl. I set the bowl on the table and Dash popped the bottle out of the filly's mouth. Rainbow began to eat the oatmeal and I sat next to her. I took a sip of my coffee and set the cup on the table. I picked up Silver from Rainbow's hooves so she can eat easier. I set Silver on the table in front of me and began to tickle her. She let out a burst of laughter and her wings buzzed. I felt her grab onto my hoof and my heart stopped. She held my hoof with both of hers and looked up to me. A small smile grew across her face and I starred into her purple eyes. My heart felt as if it was turned into a puddle.

"So adorable..." I said nuzzling Silver. She began to laugh as I kissed her on the head.

"Isn't she?' Rainbow said putting another spoonful of oatmeal in her mouth.

A few hours passed and we left out to the front of the house. We played with Silver for a while outside. Rainbow had tried to teach her to fly, but she is still a little too weak to fly on her own. The sun was at it's highest point and I went inside to grab the picnic basket. We flew to the park with Silver in Dash's hooves. We chose a table that was under the shade of a large tree. I laid out the cloth and set the food on the table. Dash sat down on one end and I sat across from her. I grabbed a sandwich and took a bite. Rainbow set Silver on the table and handed her one of the many toys that Dash bought for her. She held the rattle in her hoof and shook it once. Her eyes shot open and stared at the noise maker. She shook it again and began to laugh. We both watched as Silver became easily amused. I took another bite to finish the sandwich. I pulled out from the basket a jar of apple juice and pored it into two glasses. I handed a glass to Dash and she took a sip of the liquid. I sipped it and tasted the apples in the drink. Dash and I finished the small sandwiches and Rainbow fed Silver her baby food. Rainbow looked at the spoonful of the mush. Silver held her mouth open and waited for the spoon to enter. But, Rainbow kept looking at the orange mush with a raised eyebrow.

"Don't even think about it, Dashie. That stuff is disgusting." I said laughing.

"What? I wasn't going to eat it or anything." she said, clearly lying. She popped the spoon in Silvers mouth and she swallowed down the food.

I looked into the distance to see a park with little fillies and foals playing with their friends. I wondered how long before Silver would be like the other kids here. I saw out of the corner of my eye that Dash moved something to her mouth in a fast motion. I looked over to her and saw her licking her lips. Her face contorted and she began to spit on the grass. I began to laugh as she stuck out her tongue and brushed it with her hooves.

"I told you Dashie!" I said laughing.

"This stuff used to be my favorite when I was young!" she said, now disgusted by the mush.

I picked up the paper plates and napkins and started to trot to a garbage can. Suddenly I heard small whimpers from behind me. I turned to see that Silver was looking right at me. I stepped a little further and her whimpers turned to small cries. Then it hit me, Silver thought I was leaving her and her mother.

"Don't worry, I'll be back!" I said patting her head.

I quickly threw away the garbage and returned to the table. I sat back down and Silver crawled over to me. She wrapped herself around one of my hooves and held her eyes closed. I lifted her up and held her close to my chest. I looked up to Rainbow who was smiling and finishing her glass of juice. I packed up the picnic basket and we were off back to the house. The way that Silver acted when I was trotting away, broke my heart. I would never leave Dashie or Silver, because I love them so much.
