Tales of the Sun

It was a beautiful night in the city of Baltimare as the ponies of Equestria would return to their homes to rest from after a hard day’s work. There were of course ponies who had a hard time sleeping during the night and would prefer to stay up. One little colt in particular couldn’t sleep at all as he hid from his mentor.

“Watcher? You know that it’s time go to bed… the other students have already went to their little beds and that’s where you should be right now,” A blue stallion peered from around the corner, wearing a black robe, while carrying a lantern to light his way as he followed the sounds of tiny hooves clopping against the marble floors.

The stallion didn’t know where he had ran off too, but as he was about to exit the room he heard the table shift against the ground, revealing a little grey unicorn trying to sneak away. "Found you, you little rascal!" The stallion couldn’t help but chuckle as his horn created a blue aura, surrounding the little colt in his magic and began carrying him back to his room.

“But, I’m not sleepy, Master Ironhorn,” The young colt said, before being placed on Ironhorn’s back.

“I know you aren’t young Watcher, but being a guardian means that you must be responsible and being responsible would be to go to bed when you are told.” Ironhorn explained, only to cause young Watcher pout, before entering his bedroom. “Now I believe it’s time for you to go to bed.”

“Could you at least tell me a story?” The young colt asked, slipping into his bed as Ironhorn sat on a nearby chair.

“Very well, but only this once… Now which story would you like for me to read?”

“Well… could you read the story of the Sun Princess?” Watcher asked, causing Ironhorn’s eyes to widen in surprise.

“Watcher, where did you hear that title?”

“I found the book… on the floor, in the library and it looked interested… So I was trying to find it for tonight,” Watcher said sheepishly as he pulled the covers slightly, Ironhorn couldn’t help but suppress a chuckle as his horn glowed once again. In a matter of seconds an old tattered book appeared in flash of light.

“This book… hasn’t been touched for almost five hundred years now… I’m assuming that one of the librarian’s may have dropped it without noticing? Or Perhaps a you went to seek out fairytales about false gods?” Ironhorn raised as brow as Watcher chuckled under his breath.

“I was… just curious…”

With a sigh, Ironhorn opened the book to the first page, before turning his gaze upon the young colt who laid silently as he awaited for him to read. “Now, promise me Watcher… Promise me that you’ll never speak of this to anypony? There are reasons why most of these books were banned from Equestria.”

“Why? Aren’t these just stories?” He asked.

“That maybe true, but you mustn't forget that stories can give ponies ideas… And when ideas appear in their heads, they act on them, which could lead to trouble. Now do you promise Watcher?” Ironhorn asked again, Watcher could only nod as the stallion sighed, before he began to read.

“Long ago… there were four princesses that had ruled the land of Equestria for a centuries. There was the Princess of Friendship who had the unique ability to spread friendship across all of Equestria and to all living things.”

“Then there was the Princess of Love, she had the ability to spread love and kindness to those around her, showing ponies the true meaning of love.”

“Next was the fearsome yet gentle Princess of the Moon, she is responsible for raising the moon when ponies need to sleep, and she’d watch over all ponies within their dreams, but none were as powerful and magnificent than the Princess of the Sun. She was beloved by all and she watched over everypony as her sun shined to bring the ponies light for a new day.

“But like all good, there was of course evil that lurked within the deepest darkest parts of Equestria. The one who was forever known as… The Demon King! They say that he took the form of a blue dragon that had shrouded the lands in darkness, bringing only death and destruction in his path.”

“But like a beacon of light, the four princesses had united to fight the Demon King in a final battle that would decide the fate of the world. Many say the battle lasted for days, only for each of Princess to fall, leaving only The Demon King and The Princess of the Sun to face one another. She was badly wounded, but she would not surrender. The Princess knew that this enemy was too powerful to defeat on her own and casted one final spell as a last attempt to defeat him. She created a bell that banished the Demon King to the Shadow world for all eternity. The Sun Princess had won the battle, but at a cost of her own life… that is what most ponies believed, but even she knew that it would not be the last she would see of the demon and vowed to return once again to finish off the Demon King, once and for all. To this day no pony knows what has happened to her or the remains of the other princesses, but when the world will need her most. She shall be there to defend it.

“And that’s where our tale ends… sleep well Watcher.” Before he could leave, he felt Watcher’s hoof. tugging at robe.

“That can’t be the end? There has to be more to it master?” Watcher asked, only for Ironhorn to sigh once again, before looking back at the little colt.

“Watcher… It may not be a happy ending like most fairy tales, but if it wasn’t for the Princess… the Order wouldn’t have been formed and we would have all been slaves to the Demon King… You should be grateful....We have been protecting Equestria ever since the Princess had disappeared and the five classes were created. Watcher someday you’ll be an Alpha class Unicorn like me and you’ll be responsible for looking after the ponies of Equestria.” Ironhorn explained to him as the young colt nodded his head, before his eyes began to feel heavy. “It’s time for you to rest young one.”

“Night, master…” Watcher laid his head back, closing his eyes and drifting off into a deep slumber. Ironhorn couldn’t help but smile as he exited the room,

Watcher could only think about the story once again, doing his best to suppress his smile. ‘I’ll be the greatest unicorn ever… just like the Princess of the Sun,’

The End?
