The lights flicked on and lots of ponies shouted, "Surprise!"
A kazoo blows and Twilight groans, the pink pony went up to her saying, "Surprise! Hi, I'm Pinkie Pie, and I threw this party just for you! Were you surprised? Were ya? Were ya? Huh huh huh?"
Twilight looked a bit annoyed, "Very surprised, libraries are supposed to be quiet."
"Well, that's silly! What kind of welcome party would this be if it were quiet? I mean, duh, boring! Y'see, I saw you when you first got here, remember?"
"You were all "hello" and I was all 'gasp', remember? Y'see I've never seen you before and if I've never seen you before that means you're new, 'cause I know everypony, and I mean everypony in Ponyville!"
"But I'm not a pony..."
"Well I can see that silly, but if you're new, that meant you haven't met anyone yet, and if you haven't met anyone yet, you must not have any friends, and if you don't have any friends then you must be lonely, and that made me so sad, then I had an idea, and that's why I went 'gasp'!"
"So I must throw a great big ginormous super-duper spectacular welcome party and invite everyone in Ponyville! See? And now you have lots and lots of friends!"
Twilight sipped on a drink after she poured something in it, she got red faced at the spicy flavor, "Are you all right, sugar cube?"
She started crying at the spicy flavor and ran upstairs before she breathed her blue fire in front of everypony. "Aww, she's so happy she's crying!"
Spike looked at the bottle Twi poured in her drink, "Hot sauce?"
Pinky poured it on a cupcake and ate it, "What? It's good!"
Twilight groaned as she laid on her bed, Spike opened her door letting the music in, "Hey Twilight! Pinkie Pie's starting 'pin the tail on the pony'! Wanna play?"
"No! All the ponies in this town are crazy! They don't have the normal reaction to a hybrid, and do you know what time it is?!"
"It's the eve of the Summer Sun Celebration. Everypony has to stay up, or they'll miss the Princess raise the sun! You really should lighten up, Twilight, it's a party!"
Spike left and she mocked him, then sighed, "Ugh, here I thought I'd have time to learn about the Elements of Harmony but, silly me, all this ridiculous friend-making has kept me from it! 'Legend has it that on the longest day of the thousandth year, the stars will aid in her escape, and she will bring about an everlasting night.' I hope the Princess was right... I hope it really is just an old pony tale..."
Spike came back, "C'mon, Twilight, it's time to watch the sunrise!"
They all went back to town hall and Twi simply stared at all the ponies, just one pony? Any pony? No pony was going to react to the fact she was a hybrid?! In Canterlot she would get reactions, but here it was like these ponies were used to seeing odd things. The children were looking at her oddly but that didn't count, they were children they always react to odd things, the parents noticed and nudged them to make them stop, this happened before, but the difference was the parents would be staring as well.
Pinkie pie came up to her, "Isn't this exciting? Are you excited, 'cause I'm excited, I've never been so excited, well, except for the time that I saw you walking into town and I went 'gasp' but I mean really, who can top that?"
Twilight sighed as fanfare played and the mayor came out, "Fillies and gentle colts, as mayor of Ponyville, it is my great pleasure to announce the beginning of the Summer Sun Celebration!" All the ponies cheered except Twi who was looking at the stars moving towards the moon.
"In just a few moments, our town will witness the magic of the sunrise, and celebrate this, the longest day of the year! And now, it is my great honor to introduce to you the ruler of our land, the very pony who gives us the sun and the moon each and every day, the good, the wise, the bringer of harmony to all of Equestria..."
Fluttershy looked at her birds, "Ready?"
"...Princess Celestia!"
The birds sang as the curtains opened to reveal nothing, "Huh?" Rarity said looking at the empty space.
Ponies started chattering quietly and nervously in the background, "This can't be good." Twi said looking nervous for a different reason.
Mayor mare looked around, "Remain calm, everypony, there must be a reasonable explanation!"
Pinkie hopped in place, "Ooh, ooh, I love guessing games! Is she hiding?"
Rarity came back from looking around, "She's gone!"
"Ooh, she's good."
Then everyone gasped when a dark magic cloud swirled around then revealed a dark alicorn, Twi whispered, "Oh no... Nightmare Moon!"
Spike fainted off her back, then Nightmare moon spoke, "Oh, my beloved subjects, it's been so long since I've seen your precious, little sun-loving faces."
Dash shouted, "What did you do with our Princess?!"
AJ chomped down on her tail, "Whoa there, Nelly..." She said a bit muffled.
Nightmare moon chuckled, "Why, am I not royal enough for you? Don't you know who I am?"
Pinkie looked excited, "Ooh, ooh, more guessing games! Um, Hokey Smokes!"
"How about, Queen Meanie! No! Black Snooty, Black Snooty--" AJ stuffed a cupcake in her mouth to get her to stop talking.
Nightmare moon went around saying, "Does my crown no longer count now that I have been imprisoned for a thousand years? Did you not recall the legend? Did you not see the signs?"
"I did. And I know who you are. You're the Mare in the Moon, Nightmare Moon!" Twi shouted getting her attention, and Nightmare moon looked at her.
"Well look at this somepony who remembers me, and she's not even a pony... and you must also know why I'm here."
"You're here to... to..."
She gulped, and Nightmare moon chuckled, "Remember this day, little ponies, for it was your last. From this moment forth, the night will last forever!"
She laughed as thunder boomed, Mayor mare shouted, "Seize her! Only she knows where the Princess is!"
The guards flew close to her. "Stand back, you fools!"
She laughed as she shot lightning at them, then she turned into a cloud of smoke and left, AJ tried to keep her grip on Rainbow's tail but Dash managed to get free, "Come back here!" She shouted then panted, "Nighttime? Forever?" She noticed Twi running off with Spike, "Where's she going?"
Twi tucked Spike in his bed as he muttered, "Uh... We gotta stop Nightmare!..."
"You've been up all night, Spike. You still are a baby dragon after all."
After that, she started looking through her books, "Elements, elements, elements... Ugh! How can I stop Nightmare Moon without the Elements of Harmony?"
Dash flew in her face, "And just what are the Elements of Harmony? And how did you know about Nightmare Moon, huh? Are you a spy? Whoa!"
AJ pulled Dash back by her tail, "Simmer down, Sally. She ain't no spy, but she sure knows what's going on. Don't you, Twilight?" Twi looked at all of them.
"I read all about the prediction of Nightmare Moon. Some mysterious objects called the Elements of Harmony are the only things that can stop her, but I don't know what they are, where to find them; I don't even know what they do!"
"The Elements of Harmony: A Reference Guide." Pinkie said and Twi pushed her aside,
"How did you find that?!"
Pinkie said in a sing-song, "It was under 'E'!"
"Oh." Twi grabbed the book and thought, 'Why didn't I think of looking under E? To panicked to think straight I guess.'
