Starswirl's tale

Chapter 1. The beginning

All that could be heard was hoofsteps down the empty hallway, starswirl the bearded's hoofsteps. He paced slowly down the hallway levitating a couple of scrolls next to him, then finally stopping at a large room, he entered the room and was greeted by the warm welcoming glow of a fireplace.

Starswirl dropped the scrolls on a big table and walked up to the curtains, he nudged at one with his horn so that he could look out the window. He already knew that through those windows, there was a never-ending blizzard but he still seemed to think that when he looked through the window he would see the some sign of spring coming, his blank expression slowly turned turned to a upset one as he stared out the window

"Why do I torture myself like this?" He growled turning away from the window

"this winter is clearly caused by wendigos and with us ponies torn apart like this there is nothing that can be done about this ghastly winter." Starswirl explained to himself as if he thought that he didn't understand it.

"Starswirl" Called Princess platinum, Starswirl groaned and turned to walk over to the throne room.

"Starswirl I'm starving!" whined Princess Platinum who was a gorgeous young mare with a soft white coat and a long beautiful Red mane.

"Yes, well the earthpony can't grow their crops in this weather, maybe we can talk to the other tri-" Starswirl said before he was interrupted by princess platinum

"Nonsense! They're keeping it from us! We unicorns still raise the sun and the moon every single day! the least thing they could do is provide us with with something to eat!" Platinum argued then she looked at starswirl for the first time since he has entered the room, she stared at him in distaste as if she had never seen him before. "you know Starswirl it wouldn't hurt to groom yourself every once in a while" she muttered.

Starswirl who had heard this from her many times rolled his eyes, he knew that he probably wasn't the most handsome of stallions, with his messy grey coat and his long tangled beard it was probably true that he could probably groom himself more often but he chose to focus on what he considered more importent.
"Yes, Your royal highness, I'm sure it wouldn't but I have other duties to attend to" He replied respectfully.

Princess platinum sulked "Well fine, if you can't help me! Just go make yourself useful and attend to them" she said in a grumpy tone as she slumped back in her throne.
Starswirl rolled his eyes yet again, and shuffled away

"what a shame that of all unicorns that could have led us we have one that lacks both wits and foresight." the muttered quietly.

"Luna! Celestia!" Starswirl called out, stopping. he waited for a couple of secounds then he heard galloping from behind him, he turned his head towards the noise ringing the bells on his hats while doing so and saw two unicorn fillies galloping towards him.

There was a clear age difference between them the older one had a soft pink mane and a white coat, but the younger one looked like the older one's opposite with a light blue mane and a darker blue coat but her flank had a inky black patch.

The fillies threw himselves at Starswirl landing on the bottom of his long cloak which was dragging after him and, like his hat was also lined with bells that jingled as the fillies leaped onto the coat, the two small ponys giggled playfully at starswirl, "Hey Starswirl!" Celestia giggled.

"Hello, my little ponies!" Starswirl smiled, he loved those two fillies as if they were his own children and besides his studies in magic they were they were the only things left that brought him any joy. "ready to start learning?" he questioned playfully.

"Yeah!" Said the fillies together excitedly, starswirl grinned at their joy of learning.

"Then let's get going!" He said and with a skip in his step trotted towards his study.

When they entered the room Clover the Clever was there already, "Oh, hullo Starswirl" She greeted and smiled warmly at them as she wrote on a scroll.

"Good day Clover, what are you writing?" Starswirl asked as he lead the two fillies over to a shelf with hundreds of scrolls stacked on top of each other for the fillies to choose to read.

"I'm writing to Princess Platinum in regards to making up with the other tribes, she interrupts me when I try to talk to her about it, im hoping that if i write about it to her she'll consider.

Starswirl snorted "Yeah, good luck with that, I've tried dozens of times, she doesn't listen!"

Clover nodded "Yes, I'm sure you have, but remember in addition to your apprentice I am also her advisor" Clover said proudly
"I'm sure the other tribes will see reason in working together" Clover said

Starswirl sighed "You're probably right Clover, but we can only hope!"

Clover nodded absentmindedly and rolled up her scroll, "well goodbye, Starswirl, Celestia and dearest little Luna" she said and left.

Starswirl looked over at the fillies who were reading the scrolls "Did you find any spells you want to learn?" he asked,

The fillies looked at him "Nope!" said Luna

"hmm" Starswirl tapped his chin with his hoof thoughtfully "well I don't remeber teaching you about how it was before us ponies were seperated into three tribes" he said "and I have a feeling you fillies would enjoy learning about that?" he said and thought of the former rulers, King sol and queen Mona, fair and noble rulers, of whom Starswirl not only respected but will forever be loyal to.

Luna and Celestia looked at each then at him, they looked very confused.

"Why?" asked Celestia

Starswirl smiled, he did love when ponies were curious, it showed a thirst for knowledge.

"Because fillies, then you'll learn abit about your parents" Starswirl said joyfully

Luna and celstia looked even more confused now

"What does our parents have to do with back then?" asked Luna with abit of uncertainty lingering in her tone

"Oh, they were a very big part of back then, go get your quills and parchments while I prepare the lesson" Starswirl said, a type of excitment brewed insside him one of which he hadn't felt in a very long time .
