Bookworm was placed under the care of the best nurse and doctor in Canterlot, his illness was something to be studied, and Twilight got to see her first summer sun celebration. Her eyes widened as she watched Celestia rise the sun, she wanted to do magic like that, so she started studying, the months rolled into the years. Twi still had time to visit her father and spend time with her mother, Bookworm wasn't getting better but he also wasn't getting worst either so it was an improvement over what it was.
Violet enrolled Twi in princess Celestia's school for gifted unicorns when she was four years old, the only problem she faced was if Twi should be allowed to even take the test to enter, she was getting angrier and angrier about them treating Twi like this. Yes she was a hybrid, yes she wasn't all unicorn, yes mostly unicorns lived here and only unicorns entered the school, but Twi was half unicorn that had to count for something.
To add to her problems she has been dealing with a very bothersome dragon named Fang, he just wouldn't leave her alone whenever she went hunting for meat or gems. She finally gave up, and made a deal, she would give him some dates, he would leave her alone, and he was sure he could make her leave her husmate. After a couple of dates he was really excepting too much from her he offered one final deal, she took it, and he finally left her alone, but she wasn't proud of it.
But he kept his end of the deal, he left the area and her alone forever, if he went back on his word by coming back, she would go back on her word, and tell other dragons what he did. She had another egg before the time Twilight was finally accepted to take the test to get in the school, and she watched her daughter take the entrance exam. Violet kept a close watch on her new purple and green egg as they rolled in a bunch of objects all different sizes and weight, to see how magically gifted she really was.
Twilight looked at the objects, she gave a nervous laugh as she tried to use her magic to levitate any object off the rolling table, her horn glowed magenta for a bit as she focused. She moved around trying her hardest to make anything move, she was trying too hard to use her magic, she finally laid down in exhaustion, "I'm sorry for wasting your time..." The unicorn judges wrote down something on their clipboards, Twilight was going to get up to leave when all of a sudden...
A rainbow shockwave blast past her outside making her horn glow, she used her magic to levitate everything and soon she was going out of control magic flying everywhere. Violet tried to protect her egg as she watched the chaos the magic was causing, was she so powerful because of her mixed blood? Unicorn and dragon magic were strong on their own but mix them together, you get a hybrid that might be more powerful than the princess, and her egg hatched a bit earlier do to one of the magical blasts.
As Violet's new whelp yawned, the princess came in to see who was causing the magical surge, she put a hoof on Twi making her calm down, "Twilight Sparkle, I have never come across a unicorn with your raw abilities before, but these abilities need to be tamed through focused study, and so I would like to make you my own personal protégé here at the school."
Twilight's mouth dropped, "Me your own personal protégé?"
Celestia nodded, "Well what do you say?"
Twilight jumped, "I say yes!"
Celestia laughed, "One other thing Twilight."
Twilight dropped, "There's more?" Celestia pointed to her flank and she looked gasping, "A cutie mark?" She hopped around, "A cutie mark!" Violet smiled, she always wondered if Twi could get a cutie mark because she was a hybrid. Bookworm was the one who told Violet about cutie marks and how they worked a long time ago, Twi's cutie mark was a large magenta star and five smaller white stars.
Violet looked at her newly hatched whelp, he had purple scales on his body, a light green underbelly, green spikes, and green eyes, since he was Violet's second whelp and a pure dragon he got more of his fire coloring. Unlike Twilight who didn't follow this pattern, she did have some blue on her but not a lot like her new brother Spike, who was trying to num on one of his purple wings. He finally gave up and numed on his tail, Spike was the name she chose for him, it sounded both like a dragon name and a pony name.
Twilight studied under princess Celestia's watch, when Spike was a year old he wanted to join her to help out, and of course Violet agreed. It helped Twi a lot because she wasn't the only oddball in the sea of unicorns, she even started carrying Spike on her back making him take notes and learn how to read and write while doing it. "What's next on the list Spike?"
He looked at the list, "Reading the book Celestia gave you."
She looked back at him, "Your getting better Spike, I'm impressed."
"There you are Twilight, Moon Dancer is having a party over in the west castle courtyard, you want to come?"
Twilight looked over at Spike who read her list and nodded, "Sure I would love to I have free time, and I only need to read this book, I can do it later."
They went over to the party, "Hey Moon Dancer, we're here."
Twi whispered, "I don't have a gift."
Spike pulled out a picture and whispered, "What about this?"
Twilight grabbed it, looked at it, then put a bow on it, "It's perfect, thanks, Spike."
"Hey Moon Dancer, I'm sorry I couldn't wrap it but I hope you like the gift anyways."
Moon Dancer took the framed picture in her magic and looked at it, "It's a picture of us together..."
Twi took deep breaths calming herself down, "Yes to remind you that no matter what happens we will always be friends."
She looked at the picture again then Twi, "I love it thanks."
Twi let out a breath she was holding, she saw Spike's smug look, "I wasn't scared."
He rolled his eyes, "Sure you just keep telling yourself that."
