//------------------------------// // Light Star // Story: Starlight, Starbright // by Skaltrox Defiance Knight //------------------------------// It was time for the dinner. Starlight was seated at her reserved table, waiting expectantly for Twilight to arrive. To Starlight this was a platonic dinner with her friend, but she still felt the need to look goodconsidering the restaurant was very high class, the increased appearance was mandatory so she decided to tie a bow into the dock of her tail and add one to the back of her mane. It was simple, yes, but it made Starlight feel more like she was out to dinner rather then going to a cafe for a chat. A waiter came by the table for two and asked Starlight a question "Will the Princess be arriving soon. Miss Starlight?" he asked in a posh, Canterlot noble like, voice. Starlight flicked her head over to where the waiter stood and replied "She should be here very soon, she is the type to be punctual" Starlight stated, smiling at Twilight's maddening desire to be on time, regardless of what she needed to be on time for. Starlight turned back around and began to tap a hoof lightly on the table surface to sooth her growing impatient mood. But this soon depleted when she saw a lavender coated Alicorn "gracefully" land on the ground in front of the restaurant. Twilight wasn't the type to pretty herself up very often, she'd do it if she had to, especially for something like the Grand galloping gala. But what perplexed Starlight was, why Twilight decided to do it for something like this? She didn't wear a dress, but from what Starlight could see: she was wearing purple metal boots, like Celestia and Luna, that stood out with her matching purple eye shadow. She wore a silver necklace with a pink star hanging from the chain over her chest, a ribbon was entwined through her tail and lastly she wore her Princess crown. Starlight was at a lost for words, she just looked wide eyed at Twilight as she got several bows from waiters and guests, who were standing up, as she trotted by over to the table where Starlight resided. Mouth agape. 'Perfect, exactly what I wanted her to do, maybe she'll start to get the idea I like her' Twilight thought. A waiter rushed over and moved the seat out for Twilight, to which Twilight thanked as she sat down smiling warmly at the beet red Starlight. To be honest Twilight was exactly the same as Starlight at the moment, she just managed to mask it with a smile. That only elicited Starlight to blush more. Starlight couldn't help but blush at the Princess. Twilight always had that hidden beauty charm, in which she appears pretty normal to most, but when she adds beauty into the mix. She becomes a different pony. Almost like how a superhero keeps there identity under a boring normal person. "Twi-Twilight d-d-did you h-have to wear all...that?" Starlight said gesturing up and down at Twilight's current attire. The lavender pony in turn looked down at herself then smiled back at Starlight. "Well this restaurant is known to be fancy Starlight and I am a princess. I have to set an example to others that I am one when I go out to such a place." Twilight stated. Starlight had to admit she was right "Yeah, I guess" Twilight giggled "Come on, let's order something." Starlight agreed. Several waiters rushed over at those words, all of them fighting to take an order for a princess. Although not long after the manager came by yelling at them to go back to their own waited tables and let the current waiter do our order, despite their protests. Starlight looked over the menu until she was satisfied with what she liked. "I'll have...the Arugula salad please" Starlight said. The waiter wrote it down on a small notepad then turned expectantly to Twilight. "I'll probably go with the eggplant Parmigiana, thank you" Twilight spoke up, the waiter wrote it down and then asked if they wanted any drinks. "Would you two be partial to any of our beverage list?" he said, still in a posh sounding voice. "Starlight looked towards Twilight, who gave a shake of her head. "No, just some water for the table will be fine" Starlight said. The waiter nodded before walking away to give the order to the chef. ##### As the two waited, silently. Twilight decided to break it suddenly to make their predicament less awkward " I have to thank you Starlight. I just now realise how busy I've been and now find a break like this...very much needed" she said softly. Starlight smiled back "Like I said, you have been working too hard, hard enough to fall asleep at any moment in fact. But you need to see that while this dinner may be a one off thing, you getting more relaxation is something that needs to become the norm. Basically what I'm saying is, don't let this dinner be your only window for luxury, let it be the first of many windows" Starlight explained. "Enough to fill a large house?" Twilight joked. "Enough to fill a large house" Starlight repeated. After more idle chat, the two friend's meals arrived. Twilight's mouth was watering at the smell of her food, although she wanted to see if Starlight had anything else to say before they started, but when she looked up at Starlight, she found that she had already dug in with much gusto for her salad. Twilight giggled lightly at Starlight's once more beet red face. "Well I guess I was hungrier than I thought" Starlight sheepishly said as she scratched the back of her head. Starlight felt odd, when she looked at Twilight now, she didn't see her book reading friend. She saw a beautiful pony that looked like she was on a date. With her. Once their meals were in place, the friends dug in happily while engaging once more in simple chatter. The normal stuff: like how your day was, anything interesting to talk about or about joke or two they heard from a friend. It was a simple yet enjoyable time between friends, as close as friends can be that is. As the night continued on, the sky started to twinkle with stars. With their meals finished, the Unicorn and the Alicorn were nearly ready to go, "So what happened after that?" Starlight asked Twilight as she told a bizarre story. "Well, for the most part, Pinkie ended up luring the Scylla away with a large eight pronged stick skewered with mud cake. So yeah, that was Tuesday" Twilight replied. "Wow, remind me to get Pinkie when I have a monster problem" Starlight asked. Twilight responded "Noted" As the two shared a chuckle, Starlight looked around at the few people still left in the Restaurant and said to Twilight "We should be going now" Twilight went wide eyed "I...um...y-yeah we should" she spluttered. 'I need to tell her now' she thought. "Starlight, I need to be serious with you now." Twilight stated. Starlight stopped where she was and waited for Twilight to say something. Twilight gulped nervously "I-I have to be real with you, I didn't just do all this to myself because I needed to 'set an example'. I did it to impress...you." she said her voice barely audible. Starlight looked shocked "Why? Why would you prettier yourself...for me?" she asked in a confused but also blushing state. Twilight came up closer to her unicorn friend, also blushing, and whispered "Because I love you" Starlight blushed so much that her face would put the reddest of Tomatoes to shame. Before Starlight could say anything Twilight kissed her passionately, on the lips. They stood like that for what felt like hours kissing in the Twilight and Star filled sky. But as soon as it begun, it was over. Twilight coming down from her ecstatic behaviour, realised her action and blushed beyond normal blushing capabilities. "I-I-I'm SORRY!" she yelled before galloping off into the night. Starlight stood in place, she put a hoof to her lips and pondered what just happened, she said to no pony in particular "Twilight...loves me?"
