Chapter two: Games and Tears

Flying high over the homes of Canterlot, Nyx looks out over the carriage. “Nyx, stay inside the carriage before you fall out.” Twilight said as she grabbed Nyx. It wasn’t a far trip from Ponyville to Canterlot, maybe about 20 minutes or so, but for Nyx it felt like forever and a half. There was nothing to do but sit there and wait. She had forgotten to bring a book with her, but even if she had the wind would’ve made it hard to read. She even had to keep fixing her headband and glasses, because of the wind. They had only been flying for 10 minutes but Nyx could already see Canterlot from her seat, and she was getting excited.
“Now remember, Nyx, we came here to help Princess Luna and not to just mess around,” Twilight reminded Nyx.
“I know, I know.” Nyx said, not really paying attention. She was too busy thinking about Snowdrop, and how Princess Luna could be so affected by her. As far as what Nyx could tell from Mrs. Cheerilee’s story, Princess Luna was appreciative of Snowdrop’s gift. At last they were close enough to be able to see Princess Celestia watching out for them on the balcony. As the carriage lands on the ground Celestia comes down to welcome them.
“My dear and faithful, Twilight, was your trip satisfactory?” Princess Celestia asked, as Twilight and Nyx stepped out of the carriage.
“It was lovely,” Twilight responded.
“I’m glad to hear that. How was the trip for you, Nyx?” Princess Celestia asked. Nyx didn’t respond though. She was busy looking around for Luna, hoping she would at least come out to see them.
“I’m sorry, she has been this way since we got the letter. She really wanted to help Princess Luna when she heard.” Twilight said apologetically.
“It’s alright, Twi-”
“Where’s Luna?” interrupted Nyx.
“She’s in her chambers, sweetie. Do you wish for me to take you there? I don’t believe she’ll let you in though. She won’t even let me in.” Princess Celestia sighed.
“It’s alright, Princess Celestia. We’ll try our best to help her feel better.” Twilight reassured her old mentor. Celestia nodded and lead Twilight and Nyx to Luna’s chambers. Hesitantly Celestia knocked on the door.
“Luna? Someponies are here to see you,” Celestia said.
“Tell them to go away! I don’t wish to see anypony right now,” Luna cried out. Celestia sighed, knowing this would happen.
“Ah come on Luna, you don’t even want to play with me?” Nyx asked through the door. There was a brief moment of silence before they heard the door unlock and open a crack. Nyx walked in and the door was slammed shut before anypony else could walk in.
Nyx turned to look around the room and what she saw was not a pretty site. The room was an absolute mess. There was week old food on the table, half-empty bottles of cider everywhere, the bed was a mess and looked like someone had been lying in it for days.
“So… what do you want to play?” Nyx asked, trying to act like she really did come to play.
“You don’t have to pretend Nyx. I know Tia told Twilight everything.” Luna said, once again curling into a ball under the blankets.
“Alright, you got me, but I was alright just playing games if you didn’t feel like talking. I even brought a new game with me that I thought you’d like,” Nyx said, as she pulled out the newest Call of Duty game. Luna looked over at her and sighed.
“Fine. Just one game thought, and no talking.” Luna said, as she got up and turned on the system. Nyx got the game out and started it up.
“Do you want to play co-op or versus?” Nyx asked.
“Preferably versus if you don’t mind,” Luna replied.
“Alright.” Nyx said, as she set up the game. They played in silence for some time before Luna got up and walked back to the bed. Nyx looked over at her, then shut off the game. She quietly walked over to the bed and plopped down beside Luna. Slowly Luna wrapped her wing around Nyx pulling her close.
“You know what it’s like, don’t you?” Luna asked, voice choking a little bit.
“What, what’s like?” Nyx asked.
“”What it’s like to loose someone you love and never be able to apologize for what you’ve done?” Luna asked, looking down at the young filly.
“I suppose I kind of do,” Nyx mumbled, looking down as she remembered how she almost lost Twilight during her time as Nightmare Moon. “But what does that have to do with anything?” she asked.
“Well I had lost someone I loved, during my imprisonment. I had said something really hurtful beforehand and I never got to apologize for it,” Luna sighed, hanging her head low.
“Was that pony Snowdrop?” Nyx asked cautiously. Luna nodded slowly. After a few more minutes of silence Nyx asked, “What was she like? I only know about how she created the snowflake, but I don’t know anything about her.”
“She was the only real friend I ever had. She was the only one who knew and understood my pain. She was caring, loving, and only wanted the best for me. But when I told her my plans, she was against it. In turn I lashed out at her. I told her that nopony appreciated my work and the only pony who did couldn’t even see it.” Luna pulled Nyx closer as she explained what happened. “I never even got to say I’m sorry… the last memory she had of me was me yelling at her. I can never take that back. I can never say how sorry I am or how much I miss her.” At this point Luna was crying full on and holding Nyx tightly. Nyx felt sorry for her. At least Nyx had the chance to apologize to Twilight and even be forgiven. But Luna would never have that. She couldn’t even fathom what Luna must be going through. Nyx nuzzled Luna trying to comfort her. She had to do something to help Luna, she couldn’t stand by and do nothing while Luna was miserable. But what could she do? Snowdrop was died. And even an immortal being couldn’t bring one back. Maybe Twilight would know how to help.
After a hour or so, Nyx could hear Luna’s breathing slow and her eyes were closed. Thinking she was asleep, Nyx slowly climbed out of the bed. As she was heading out the door, she looked back at Luna and sighed. ‘I have to help her… somehow,’ she thought to herself. Finally she closed the door, and went out to look for Twilight.
