Rumors 1

Hey, Nightlings!

Here's your very own Rumors section. Please discuss rumors here and not in the general section. Theories are still okay, but anything related to new books, scrolls, products, and such go here.

I have PrinceEric's post some more thought. Honestly, things might not be as bad as my initial reaction. I remember the first time Mistmount Chronicles came out. Hay, was I skeptical back then... I even bought three bottle of red ink to mark all the "weaknesses" in the first scroll and "fix" the story. I think I still saw one of them unopened when I cleaned my room.

(On a sidenote I might be moving soon. Prices in Canterlot are unimaginable, and my part time job doesn't cover it. Nothing is certain for now. I'll let you know if there are any changes.)

Moving on, the Mistmount Chronicles had a bumpy start, but have become great, bringing in a whole new fanbase. If S.Child does things right, as I'm sure she would, I think we’ve got nothing to worry about.

LyraHands

Not sure if this is related, but have you noticed that both the series original and the reboot start with the same letters? _M_idnight _C_astle, _M_istmount _C_hronicles. What if the next series name is also something? Moving Continents? Magic Contained?

MixaMax

@MixaMax: MixaMax x Candle? Poor Candle... :(

Brush

@Brush: ha ha! Look who's talking. Projecting much?

MixaMax

@PrinceEric: out of curiosity, where did you get your information? I know a few ponies I could ask about such stuff.

PaintDrop

@PaintDrop: I've been going out with a filly whose parents work in an events promotion company. She knows I'm into this stuff, and I guess she wanted to impress me. Please, don't ask me about names and specifics. I don't want to get her in trouble.

PrinceEric

Good afternoon,

The information intrigues me and I did some checking. I can confirm that both "Famous Five" has been booked as a aethernet domain, as have been "Worlds of Tomorrow", "Mirestorm Chimera", "Boys United", and "Everhere". All domains are blank, but I managed to trace them back to a subsidiary of Scroll & Sword, who hold the rights to the Midnight Castle series.

Now, this is nothing concrete. Since it's standard practice for companies to take the domain names of their popular franchises to prevent someone else from stealing them. It does bring some credit to PrinceEric's claims, however.

Hope that was helpful.

P.S. I've almost completed the filter. In addition will be adding spoiler functionality so we can discuss things without ruining the experience for new users.

The TechNightling

@The TechNightling: thanks., you're the best! That brings a whole lot of questions. If one of the titles is the name of the new series we already have a hint what it's about! We've already discussed Famous Five and Worlds of tomorrow, but what about the rest?

Here's my take:

Mirestorm Chimera - my favorite because of MixaMax's theory of the naming convention.
The Felina Corporation has managed to corrupt Hades and now he's become the Gr8's enemy. Danny must find a way to bring him back to his senses.

Boys United - 5 years after the present series. The Gr8 have started living their own lives, but some event forces them to get back together and fight a new evil.

Everhere - hmm. Not sure about this one. Maybe Eric messed up with the portal and the Gr8 ended up stranded in another world, maybe even Equestria?

What do you girls think?

PrinceEric

@PrinceEric: pone, you really should read the first Mistmount series...

Mirestorm Chimera: you've pretty much described the first chapter of the book. Only difference being, we didn't know about the corp back then. Of the three gods, Hades was corrupt (the idea is still touched upon in later chapters), Poseidon was missing, and Zeus was imprisoned in ice and only appears in Danny's dreams. Pretty much the reason for the Gr8 to form was Danny's visions along with Caprice, who breaches the portals to warn them of Hades' awakening.

Boys United: you've described the second worst type of MC fanfics. Everyone has achieved their dreams, yet something happens requiring them to get together again and juggle fighting evil with their new responsibilities? Pone, seriously? The target audience is young colts! Nopony will want to read Bellucio does his taxes in between fighting an evil greater than the magic corporations. Granted the title doesn't help either. I've seen less cheese in a cheese factory.

Everhere: you've described the worst type of MC fanfic. That's worse than having a mare "accidentally" go to earth and pretty much seduce all the Gr8 (Megan and Molly included). I know I give Brush a hard time, but damn, she can write! Even if there are elements of wish fulfillment, her stories are logical and well written. What you are saying is pretty much a whole series written in the fashion of Hooves of a Stranger (chapter 3, series 1) which was the worst chapter of the entire franchise!

I still think it's a hoax. I don't see S&S publishing anything of that franchise anytime soon.

MixaMax

@MixaMax: not that I don't agree, but maybe use a smile or two? PrinceEric is still a schoolcolt. No need to go all Nightmare on him. ;)

@PrinceEric: the name that works best for me is Everhere, precisely because it could be anything. Call me stupid, but I love such stuff. Read it out loud. Seriously, just do it and listen how it sounds. It's so mystical I can see merhumans making an appearance.

LyraHands

That's some good reasoning, PrinceEric. Once again, I admire your enthusiasm, and energy. Unfortunately, I must agree with MixaMax. The names are most probably stock names, and while Everhere does have some appeal, I doubt it's catchy enough for a wider audience. Boys United sounds more suitable for a teenage audience, which I hope isn't what Scroll & Sword are going for.

Number-wise, it makes financial sense for them to try and diversify the brand. The series, while selling well, is nowhere as popular as the Daring Do franchise or the other big hitters. I fear they might go back to their roots and take a more Midnight Castle approach, while keeping the characters.

The TechNightling

Scroll & Sword is based in Manehattan, right? I think there might be someone I could ask about this. @The TechNightling: can you find me some info on the editor?

RRBB says hi. She didn't get grounded for that fight. Instead, she dot grounded for getting an A-. Her punishment should last till the end of the week.

PaintDrop

I like Boys United. ;P
