//------------------------------// // Their first Meeting // Story: The pony with the jacket // by Zerodone //------------------------------// If there was one place in Equestria that Twilight loved to spend her free time in, then it definitely was the library. Luckily for her, she lived in Canterlot, the capital city of Equestria. This, of course, meant that she lived in the city that had arguably the largest library in the entire kingdom, only coming second to the royal library in the castle. If food and sleep weren't necessary requirements in order to be able to absorb all the information stored in the vast amounts of books, Twilight would insist on living inside the library. And then she would write a petition that she would be allowed to live in the royal library. But sadly it wasn't meant to be. On this particular day, Twilight decided to read up on Advanced Spells and their Usage Volume 4 as preparations for her upcoming exam at Celestia's School for gifted Unicorns. Her parents received the letter just yesterday, in which it was stated that Twilight passed the theoretical exam and would soon have her practical exam. Of course, the little unicorn was overjoyed after hearing the message, however at the same time she was worried. And who wouldn't be? There were a lot of stories circulating around unicorn society of how hard the tests were supposed to be. Of course, rumors weren't really trustworthy sources of information, but still, some truth had to be behind them. Besides, it was very reasonable to assume that the tests would be very difficult, so the more preparation she had the better. The only problem with that now was getting the book she was looking for. It was placed on a pretty high shelf, one Twilight couldn't possibly reach with her hooves or even a ladder for that matter. The staff for some reason wasn't around to help her with her inconvenience. As such, the little unicorn tried to levitate the book she was after out of the shelf. The problem with that was that she wasn't very successful with the task. It already was hard enough for to flip the page in a book with her magic, but making an entire book fly through the air? That was downright impossible for her as of now. However what wasn't impossible was for her to budge the book just a little bit with small bursts of magic. It worked for a time, even though Twilight grunted with every burst of magic she released through her horn. Eventually, the little unicorn had to catch her breath, after using so much magic at once. While she was doing that, she looked up and found that she moved only a quarter of the book stuck out of the shelf. Little Twilight let out an annoyed sigh, but only a second later her face turned back to one of determination and once again proceeded to get the book out of the shelf. To her surprise instead of just moving a little bit, the book flew straight out of the shelf! Yet there were several things off, aside from the book flying. For one the book wasn't enveloped in her own purple magic, but turquoise colored magic. Second, Twilight stopped channeling her magic as soon as she saw the book flying out of the shelf. Third and finally the book wasn't flying towards her but towards another unicorn. Twilight turned her head around and found the unicorn in question using the overall commonly used levitation spell. Said unicorn was a mare, based on her head shape and long eyebrows. Like with all unicorns her eye color was the same as that of her magic. Her fur was a bright yellow and her mane and tail were multi-colored in red and yellow. Her cutie mark was that of a red and yellow sun. Most outstanding about the unicorn was the black jacket the unicorn was wearing. Now it wasn't uncommon for ponies to wear clothes, especially in a city like Canterlot, but most ponies still choose to not wear anything most of the time. The yellow unicorn silently read the title cover for a second, before turning her attention to the foal in front of her. "Isn't that a bit advanced for someone your age?" The unicorn asked like so many other ponies had asked before. "Nuh uh." Twilight shook her head and smiled proudly. "I'm way ahead of everyone in my class!" She declared proudly. "Hmm..." the unicorn looked at the book one last time, before levitating it over to Twilight, dropping it to the ground. "You're supposed to catch it with your magic, you know?" the mare remarked. "Umm... I...I..." "Ah, alright." The mare let the book fly again and trotted over to the foal. "Come on, I'll bring it over to the table for you." "Oh! Thank you!" Twilight grinned and followed the unicorn to one of the reading tables. The little foal jumped up to a chair, while the mare placed the book in front of the foal. "Thank you very much!" "No problem." The unicorn winked. "Out of curiosity, why are you reading something like this and not... I dunno, a story book?" The mare asked. "That's because I am studying!" Twilight opened the book. "Studying? Unless you have skipped several classes, I don't see why you would need to read this." The unicorn pointed at the book with her hoof. "Silly, that's because I'm studying for the test at Celestia's School for gifted Unicorns!" The yellow pony froze for a second, but Twilight didn't notice. "I have passed the theoretical test and now I'm studying up for the practical test." The unicorn raised an eyebrow at the information she received. "Studying? Shouldn't you work on your spells instead, if you already passed the theory part?" "But then I would do things out of order." Twilight pouted. "First I need to read the theory before I go to the praxis. What if I misunderstood something and made a mistake?" "I guess you have a point..." the unicorn conceded, muttering something to herself. "Well, I wouldn't want you to keep you from your studies any longer. In fact, I need to catch up on my own studies. See you later." "See you." Twilight cheerfully waved her hoof, before finally getting to read the book. She only got a couple of pages far, before she was distracted again. And again, it was the yellow unicorn from before, who had placed herself next to Twilight. "Every other seat is taken." The yellow mare explained, before getting to read her own book. Twilight shrugged, accepting the explanation and returned to reading her own book.
