//------------------------------// // Did she say yes or did she say no? // Story: Rare Romance // by Silver Topaz //------------------------------// Spike walked through the streets of Ponyville. He was looking quite nervous, as anypony who saw him could clearly see. Spike was looking in every direction. He looked right but he saw only houses, and ponies that were going about their business, some were even staring at him. Probably wondering what was making him so nervous. Spike turned and looked left, again houses, business and some other ponies that were walking by. He then looked up and he saw the sky, it was a clear and sunny day in Ponyville. Spike's personal favorites, no clouds just the warm sun. Spike closed his eyes for a second. He was thinking about what he was going to do. It was no secret to everypony in Ponyville, that Spike had a crush on Rarity. The town's resident fashion pony, saviour of Equestria, friend of the princesses, and last but certainly not least owner of Carousel Boutique. Which was the location Spike was heading in. Spike took a deep breath and let it out. He then continued walking. He thought about Rarity, she had been very successful in the past seven years. She had stores practically all over Equestria. Canterlot, Manehattan, The Crystal Empire, Las Pegasus and even in Cloudsdale. She had spread her business so far in just seven years. Spike walked wanting to take the long way to Carousel Boutique. He looked around again noticing that in seven years the town of Ponyville had barely changed. And the ponies were almost the same ones from when he first arrived. The only difference was the young fillies and colts were now mares and stallions, and the mares and stallions before were older. Even he had changed physically. He wasn't the big ferocious dragon many ponies feared he might become. Spike was barely taller than your average pony, the spines across his back were a bit sharper, the same could be said about his tail, he had wings, and his mouth was starting to get that beak like shape. He was kinda intimidating probably to a pony that has never met him before, but to a dragon he was still a baby. He also had a bag on his back. Despite having wings Spike decided to walk. Not because he truly wanted to, but because he was so nervous. Today was finally the day that Spike was going to confess to Rarity. He was 18 which meant he was an adult in pony years, which meant that Spike's only obstacle for getting Rarity was now gone. He could finally tell her, hopefully. Spike didn't come up with this decision himself, actually what took him so long was fear. He was afraid of Rarity’s rejection, and it took a long talk from Cadence to finally convince him to talk. She told Spike that even if Rarity didn't feel the same way, that he should tell her. Cadence told him that it would feel worse not telling Rarity and losing her, than telling her and getting a ‘no’ for an answer, which could probably be a ‘yes’ if he was lucky. Yet, guilt from not knowing would be worse. Spike knew the answer he was going to get. Rarity was the most beautiful pony in all of Equestria. The chances that she felt the same way were probably zero, but like Cadance said he should at least tell her. Who knew maybe she would say yes. Spike gave a chuckle at that last bit, he didn't want to get his hopes up. He knew what answer he was going to get, and he was going to have to accept it, probably cry a little bit and then he would move on. Spike stopped in front of the flower shop. He decided to get flowers for Rarity. she always seemed to love when he brought her some. The smile she would get and the look in her eyes, Spike loved it. He walked near the store, he took a second to look at the flowers on the outside and then he went in. He went in the store looking around. The flower shop run by the flower ponies as they were called. It was the nickname given to the group of Roseluck, Lily and Daisy. Which they seemed pretty happy with. Spike walked around the store, it wasn't really big, but then again most stores in Ponyville were small. He knew what flowers he wanted. Roses Rarity's favorites. He walked to the counter which was the place the roses would usually be. Speaking of roses Spike just spotted Roseluck behind the counter. He wasn't surprised since she was usually the one there. Roseluck noticed Spike and immediately turned around. Coming back shortly with a bouquet of roses. Spike reached the counter and saw the bouquet already there. He then turned to look at Roseluck. "That'll be the same as usual Spike." Spike smiled. He reached into his bag, and grabbed some bits. After paying for the flowers Spike made his way out of the store. When he was about to leave he heard Roseluck's voice again. "Good luck telling Rarity you love her." Spike just got even more nervous and just walked out of the store. Spike stood outside the store, he was about to walk but he stopped. He then spread his wings and flew off. He knew he was just walking to delay the situation that was about to happen. But he decided he just wanted to get it over with, no matter what Rarity was going to say. If he kept walking he was going to get nervous, and if he got nervous he wouldn't tell her. Spike landed in front of Carousel Boutique. He looked around to see if anypony was coming, when he saw nopony he knocked on the door. "I'm coming," Behind the door came Rarity's beautiful voice which caused Spike to immediately get nervous again. He spread his wings and he was about to take off when the door opened. He looked at the door. It wasn't there in its place was the pony Spike considered to be the most beautiful pony in all of Equestria. Although he was pretty biased. Like many of the ponies in town Rarity hadn't changed one bit. Despite being in her twenties she still looked like she did seven years ago. Her mane was longer and that was about the only difference. "Spike you should have told me you were coming." Spike scratched the back of his head. Not really knowing what to say. Luckily for him he didn't have to say anything. "Come in darling, I was just making tea and it's almost ready." Spike did what he was told and he came inside. That's when Rarity noticed the flowers. "Spike what a marvelous bouquet of roses." Spike looked at the bouquet of roses in his claws. "Well, I'm glad you like them, because they're for you." "For me." Rarity said, while grabbing the flowers in her magic. He had given her flowers so many times before, but Rarity always acted like he just did it for the first time. "Thank you Spike, they are so beautiful." Rarity walked over to Spike and she planted a kiss on his cheek. Which practically caused Spike to melt on the inside. Rarity chuckled and walked off to put the flowers in a vase. Spike just walked into the kitchen and sat down on one of the table chairs. He looked around waiting for Rarity he wanted to get this done. He saw that Rarity was in fact making tea and that it was almost done. Rarity made her way back into the kitchen. She prepared the tea for her and now Spike. Spike just sat on his chair, until he noticed something. It was very quiet. "Rarity where is Sweetie Belle?" Rarity finished preparing the tea. She sat across from Spike and prepared a cup for her and him. "She moved out Spike, she finally has her own house." "Wow I didn't know." "Well I do admit it gets kinda lonely without her, but I have you to keep me company," Rarity drank a bit of her tea, while Spike just stared at his. "Speaking of which what brings you here Spike? Not that I don't enjoy your company but I am curious." Spike looked at Rarity's eyes. Those big blue sapphire eyes. He sighed he just wanted to get this done. He wanted to know he actually managed to tell her. Despite the outcome. He drank some of his tea and looked straight at Rarity. "Rarity I wanted to tell you something." Rarity was actually looking at Opalescence sitting in the corner of the room. When she heard that she immediately turned to look at Spike. "What is it Spike?" Rarity had stopped calling Spike what she used to call him before. After Spike told her he didn't like it, because it made him feel like a pet, something which he didn't like. "Well I.....I," Spike struggled to get the words out. Even more when he looked at Rarity. He tried looking around the room, thinking it would help but it didn't. "Why is this so hard!" Spike shouted in his head. He was tired of this every time he would try and tell Rarity, this would happen. Spike felt something touch his shoulder. He was scared at first, but he calmed down when he saw it was just Rarity's hoof. Spike looked at her, she had the most beautiful smile on her face. "Spike you know you can tell me anything. We're friends remember?" Rarity didn't move her hoof and she just stared at Spike. She wanted to hear him say the words that she had been waiting to hear, for seven years. "I.... Rarity I..... lo." Spike couldn't say it. He was so angry, not because of the situation, not because of Rarity, but himself. Why couldn't he say it, what was stopping him. Spike felt Rarity's hoof move from his shoulder to his face. Rarity used her hoof so that her eyes met his. Those beautiful emerald green eyes were all Rarity could think of, for the last couple of years. "Spike please say it." She wanted him to say. She wanted to hear him say it. Spike looked at her not that he had much choice. With Rarity's hoof along with her magic, he was locked just looking into her eyes. "Just say it you idiot. Do you want to lose her forever. This might just be your only chance so just tell her!" Spike screamed at himself. Not wanting to be a coward anymore he took a deep breath and let it all out, "Rarity I love you. I've loved you from the first moment I saw you. I've always had, but I was too scared to tell you!" The room fell into silence. Spike who was still forced to look at Rarity, just wanted to run. Run to the castle and pretend this didn't happen, but he knew it was too late for that. He said it, and now Rarity knew how he felt. After what felt like eight hours the silence was finally broken. It was broken by something Spike didn't expect laughter. Rarity was laughing, as if she just heard the best joke in her entire life. Spike didn't share in her humor however as he just glared at her. He just told her about his feelings for her. He told her he loved her since the moment he first laid eyes on her. And her answer was to laugh in his face. Spike was feeling very angry, something which was cleared by the glare he was giving Rarity. He also felt sad and a little bit of shame on the side. Rarity opened her eyes, which were previously closed by her laughter. She realized the glare she was receiving, deciding it was better to clear the air before she continued. Whipping away a tear Rarity looked at Spike one more time and smiled. "Spike I'm not laughing at you." "I'm listening." Spike said still a little angry. Rarity took her empty teacup in her magic and brought it to the sink. Spike just watched her waiting for her answer. After Rarity finished cleaning the cup she turned to look at Spike. "Spike. Out of our group of friends a was always the one that was interested in romance." Spike knew that was very true. "I always dreamt of finding my special somepony. Somepony who loved me for me." Rarity paused for a second, but she continued. "I tried dating other ponies, but they never felt like the one. Until I finally realized something." "What did you realized Rarity?" Rarity walked up to Spike. She placed her hoof on his chest, and looked him in the eyes. "Spike I realized, love was always there right in my face and I never realized it until now," Rarity got closer to Spike. "I love you to Spike." Spike couldn't believe what he was hearing. He prepared himself for rejection, but here he was with the mare he loved telling him the same thing. He couldn't believe it, if he was dreaming then he didn't want to wake up. The room fell to silence was more. As Spike just sat there, having the weirdest look on his face. Rarity was starting to get worried. "Spike, are you alright?" "I'm more than alright Rarity." Rarity just stared at Spike and he did the same. Until he did something that surprised him and Rarity. He put a claw on the back of Rarity's head and brought her close until their lips met. Spike kissed Rarity, he didn't know why but he did. Adding more surprised to Spike's day Rarity actually kissed him back. They stayed like that for a bit. When they finally broke up the kiss they stared at each other again. Until they kissed one more time. The second kiss lasted longer than the first one, and in Spike's opinion it was even better than the first. When they broke the second kiss, Spike could only say one thing. "I love you Rarity." "I love you too Spike," Rarity responded. After that they sat together really closed. Not doing anything more than spend the entire day together. "And that's how me and Rarity got together," Spike said. He was telling the story of the day he was finally brave enough to tell Rarity how he felt about her. He was telling the story to a young ten year old Flurry Heart who sat there clapping. "Wow I thought you would never tell Rarity." "I thought so to kid," Spike said while nuzzling the little princess. They were at the boutique, the place where Spike lived now. After finishing the nuzzle attack as he called them he picked Flurry Heart in his arms. "Tell me about the wedding uncle Spike," Flurry said excitedly. "You were at the wedding Flurry." "Yeah but I always like hearing about it." In that moment the door to the boutique opened. Two ponies coming in, Spike looked at them and smiled. "We're here." Cadance was the first to come in and just behind her came Shinning Armor. "Mom, dad." Flurry freed herself from Spike's grasp and she flew towards her parents hugging them both. While hugging her Shining Armor looked towards Spike. "Sorry we're late Spike. I hope Flurry didn't cause to much trouble." "None at all Shining Armor," Spike assured Shining that taking care of Flurry Heart was no trouble. "Thanks for taking care of her, the nobles can be a pain to deal with," Cadance said, while hugging and nuzzling her daughter. "I know your pain trust me." Spike knew how the nobles were. "Well we have to get going Spike," Shining Armor said. "Wait, Spike was about to tell me the story of the wedding." Flurry said to her parents, who both rolled their eyes. "You can listen to it next time Flurry, it's already too late we have to get back to the Crystal Empire." Flurry Heart made no effort in moving. Spike was too busy looking out the window, just realizing that it was already night time. Cadance stepped up, "Flurry how about me and Shining Armor tell you the story of our wedding." "You promise?" Cadance nodded which immediately made Flurry Heart smile. Flurry hugged Spike thanking him for telling her the story, and also saying goodbye. "Thanks again Spike and tell Rarity we said, hi." Shining Armor said before closing the door and leaving. Spike started making his way upstairs. Only stopping to look at the picture of his wedding. He smiled remembering just how happy he was that day. He looked at Rarity wearing her wedding dress, she was smiling. That was the happiest day of her life, according to her. Spike walked upstairs and walked into the room were him and Rarity would sleep together. Speaking of sleeping Rarity was already fast asleep. Spike walked towards the bed and he put a claw on Rarity's belly. Which was pretty big, since Rarity was pregnant. In a few weeks Spike was going to be a father and Rarity was going to be a mother. The day he found out was probably the second happiest day of his life. But that was a story for another day. Spike looked at the sleeping Rarity and smiled, he gave her a kiss on the cheek and joined her in bed. Rarity immediately got closer to Spike as he did the same. Rarity opened her eyes for a second to look at Spike and closed them just as fast. She was too tired to say anything, well she managed to say one word. "I love you Spike." It came out in a very low tired voice, but Spike managed to hear her. "I love you too Rarity." Spike responded giving Rarity another kiss before going to sleep. He thought about that day again and smiled. The happiest day of his life.
