Sour Sweet on the Inside

Detention

Location: Crystal Prep, Dean Cadance’s office

“What are you doing here? No better question, how come you never called me?” Twilight asked letting go of him.

“I tried, but you changed your cell number.” Dark said.

Twilight’s eyes widened and she smiled sheepishly. “Oh yea sorry, when I transferred into Crystal Prep my parents made us move so we would be close to it.” Twilight said.

“Your parents still worry about you walking far distances, huh?” Dark asked.

“Yea you know how overprotective they are of me, anyway what are you doing here?” Twilight asked

“Apparently Abacus wants me to take part in her stupid little game.” Dark said crossing his arms.

Twilight raised an eyebrow at this. “Game...oh the Friendship Games?” Twilight asked.

“Yeah. By agreeing to participate, my family was allowed to move back into the city, and mum got her job back here.” Dark said.

“That’s great news.” Twilight said smiling.

“Yeah, except that it gives Cinch leverage over me.” Dark growled.

“Oh right.” Twilight responded, the smile disappearing from her face.

There was a bit of silence between the two, but was shortly broken by Cadance.

“Look at the time. You two need to get to your next class. And I’ll see you later in detention, Dark.” She said.

“You got in trouble already, Dark are you serious?” Twilight asked.

“Yeah. No thanks to this Sour Sweet girl.” Dark growled.

“Sour Sweet, what does one of the Shadow 5 have to do with this?” Twilight asked confused.

“Well, the Bipolar queen decided to flip out when she bumped into me.” Dark said, “I try to explain what happened to some other students, and know what happens? She shows up and we end up fighting again.”

“Excuse me, what do you mean again, Dark?” Cadance asked crossing her arms. Dark facepalmed, completely forgetting that Cadance was right behind him.

“Sour Sweet and I had fought earlier today. Kind of caused a scene.” Dark explained. “She landed a punch to my face in the end though.”

“Wait, Sour hit you? For no reason?” Twilight asked.

“Well… I wouldn’t say for no reason.” Dark said putting his hands behind his head.

Both Twilight and Cadance looked at Dark with concern.

“I may have called her a Bipolar freak.” Dark said. Twilight and Cadance both looked at Dark in shock.

“Dark, what is wrong with you!?” Cadance said angrily. Dark flinched a bit and took a step back.

“Seriously, Dark!? That’s not ok.” Twilight said, “I know you weren’t the nicest person ever, but you weren’t this mean before you were transferred.”

“Exactly. I’ve changed since then.” Dark said with a bit of an attitude.

“Dark I don’t care if you’ve ‘changed’ or not, that was taking things too far and Sour Sweet doesn’t need that.” Cadance said.

“Oh please, she deserved every last word I said.” Dark said crossing his arms.

“Dark! No one deserves that kind of treatment, especially Sour Sweet!” Twilight said.

“What makes her so special anyways? Her attitude is almost as bad as mine, but I have a reason for it.” Dark said, “I doubt she has a good reason for it, compared to me.” He said.

“Dark, Sour Sweet has more problems than you could ever know. Now you’re going to apologize to her.” Cadance said.

WHAT!?” Dark yelled, “What about me! She frickin punched me in the face!” He said.

“And all for good reason, now either you apologize to her or do you want me to do what I use to do to you whenever you acted up.” Cadance said. Dark immediately got a chill up his spine and looked to the ground.

“No… Fine. I’ll apologize.” Dark groaned, “What is it with people threatening me?”

“Good now both of you get to class.” Cadance said. Dark and Twilight nodded and walked out of Cadance’s office.

“What the hell, Cady?” Dark said to himself, but was loud enough for Twilight to hear.

“You deserve it, you know that right?” Twilight asked.

“Yeah right, maybe in a different world.” Dark said.

“Dark I’m serious, Cadance hasn’t given me any specifics, but she said that Sour Sweet is very sensitive about the way she is.” Twilight said, “Apparently it’s a personal matter, so she couldn’t say too much.” She said.

“Hpmh. I still don’t see why she gets a free pass for clubbing my face.” Dark said.

Twilight looked at him and saw a bruise. “I get that you’re mad Dark, but try to understand.” Twilight said. Dark just rolled his eyes.

“Fine, but after me and her serve our detention, we will go our separate ways and I do not want to see her ever again.” Dark said angrily.

“As long as you apologize to her, you can do whatever you want” Twilight said. Dark just growled and crossed his arm. The pair walked in silence for a few seconds before Twilight spoke up.

“Hey look, sorry for going off on you like that.” She said looking down.

“It’s fine, I was being a jerk and I was kinda asking for it.” Dark said.

“So we good?” Twilight asked.

“I can’t stay mad at you, Lilac on the other hand is a different story.” Dark said with a small smile. Twilight giggled a bit.

“So how is the bane of your existence?” Twilight asked.

“She’s fine, still a major pain though. How’s Uncle Night and Aunt Velvet?” Dark asked.

“Same old, same old. Mom is still writing and Dad’s an astronomy teacher at Everton. I bet they’d be thrilled to see you and Lilac again.” Twilight said.

Dark chuckled, “They’d be more happy to see Lilac. She’s the nicer one, remember? She also didn’t punch holes in their walls out of anger.”

“Dark they know you had an anger issue, but they didn’t care. How about after your detention you and Lilac head over to my house? Like I said Mom and Dad would love to see you both.” Twilight said with a smile.

“I’ll talk to Lilac about it.” Dark said.

“Great. See you two after school… Erm you after your detention.” Twilight said.

Dark rolled his eyes and smiled. “Alright, wish me luck.” Dark said walking away.

“Good luck.” Twilight said waving to him. Twilight watched as Dark turned the corner and she sighed. “He says he’s changed, but I know he’s still the same teddy bear I’ve always known.” Twilight said before walking into her classroom.

With Dark

Everyone seems to be against me today. Although I can’t really blame them, I mean I did pick a fight and with a girl no less.” Dark thought to himself, “I really need to control my temper. Stop letting people get into my head.” He thought.

Just before he got to his next class he heard something coming from the room across from it, “What is that?” Dark said walking over to the door. The door was slightly cracked allowing him to see inside and what he saw shocked him.

“I’m not a bi-polar freak, I’m not a freak, I’m not, I’m not.” Dark watched with wide eyes as he saw Sour Sweet sitting in a corner, crying.

What the, what’s wrong with her?” Dark asked himself.

“What’s his problem, he didn’t have to say something like that. UGH STOP IT!! I can’t let that jerk get to me, I don’t know what his problem is, but he didn’t need to take it out on me like that.” Sour said hugging her knees, “He doesn’t know what I’ve been through, or what I’m going through.”

What is she talking about?” Dark asked himself.

“What could he possibly compare to what has happened to me in my life? What makes his life so much worse than mine?” Sour asked.

Dark really couldn’t believe what he was hearing, ‘Is she serious? I didn’t think she was capable of crying.’

Sour Sweet sniffled one last time before wiping her eyes, “I better get to class before I get in trouble.” She got up and walked towards the door.

Dark doubled back and reached the classroom door, just as Sour Sweet opened the door to the room she was in.

The two saw each other, then glared.

“Oh, its you.” Sour Sweet said.

“Good to see you too.” Dark said sarcastically.

“No its not.” Sour Sweet said, “I don’t like you. Because of you, I have to explain to my parents why I was home late!”

“And so do I.” Dark said, “Oh wait, she probably already knows. She works here after all.”

Sour Sweet rolled her eyes, “I could care less.”

“Typical for a Bipolar F…” Dark stopped himself, remembering what Cadance and Twilight told him. He only grumbled and entered the classroom.

Sour Sweet followed him.

“Well its nice of you two to join us.” Midnight said looking at the two teens walking in.

Dark looked up at his mother, ‘Shit. Forgot mom was the English teacher.’

“Sorry Mrs… Um.... I’ve never seen you here.” Sour Sweet said looking at the new teacher.

“Oh, you must be Sour Sweet.” Midnight said, “I’m Midnight Steele. Mrs. Steele.”

“Wait, Steele? As in Dark Steele?” Sour Sweet said pointing at Dark.

“Yes. I’m his mother.” Midnight said.

“Not here you’re not.” Dark growled, “You’re my teacher here.” He then walked to the desk next to Lilac and sat down.

“Hey, that’s our mom.” Lilac said, “Show her a little respect and love.”

“I am. I’m not giving her as much attitude as the other teachers.” Dark said pulling out his English journal

Sour Sweet looked for an open desk, except the only one was next to Dark, “Great I get to sit next to King of the Morons.

“Excuse me Miss Sweet, but while in my classes, we do not call others names, or show disrespect towards anyone.” Midnight said, “That goes for everyone.” She said looking at more towards Dark.

Dark flung his arms up in accusation, ‘Why me!?’

Sour Sweet walked to her desk and sat down, not even looking at Dark.

“Ok then. Now I would like you all to open your textbooks to page 48 and silently read up to page 54.” Midnight said as she took a seat at her desk.

Dark was about to open his book and begin reading, but a certain girl next to him was digging through her bag and being quite loud about it. “Will you keep it down, I’m trying to read here.” Dark said.

“I would, But I can’t find my stupid book!” Sour Sweet growled at Dark, continuing to rummage through her bag.

“What are you looking for anyway?” Dark asked.

“Like you care.” Sour Sweet said.

“You’re right I don’t, but I’m curious.” Dark said with a smirk.

Sour just rolled her eyes. “Well if you must know, I’m looking for my textbook.” She said still rummaging through her bag.

“Do you have to look for it so loudly?!” Dark hissed.

Do you have to be so annoying all the time, or am I just special case?” Sour replied.

“Oh you’re special alright.” Dark said turning back to his book.

“Excuse me? And what is that suppose to mean?!” Sour asked.

“Well-” “Dark, is there something you’d like to share with the class?” Midnight said as she glared at Dark.

“Uh..no ma’am.” Dark said looking down. A few snickers could be heard around the classroom mostly coming from Lilac and Sour. “Oh screw you all!” Dark whispered.

“Hey you started it.” Sour said with a smirk.

“Oh just go back to finding your book!” Dark growled.

“I don’t have it, I think it’s at my house.” Sour said.

“Well I guess you’re shit out of luck.” Dark said with a small smile.

Sour was really getting sick of this guy's attitude. “Piss off jerk!” Sour growled.

“Ms. Sweet, do you have something you wish to say?” Midnight asked.

“No Ma’am!” Sour said looking down.

Dark couldn’t help but snicker. “Doesn’t feel good does it?” Dark asked with a smirk.

“Oh Screw you.” Sour said glaring at Dark.

After a few minutes passed, Midnight decided to walk around and see if everyone was doing what they were supposed to do. She soon came to Sour Sweet who was sitting there without a book in front of her. “Ms. Sweet, do you have better things to do then do your work?” Midnight asked with a serious look on her face.

“I...I...I-” “Apparently she thinks she’s too cool for school.” Dark said with a smile. Sour glared at the boy, but kept her mouth shut.

Midnight could see Sour didn’t actually have book and she also saw that her son was going to keep being a smartass. So she decided to kill two birds with one stone. “Dark since you’re so worried about education, I want you and Ms. Sour to share a textbook until she gets her’s back.” Midnight said with a smirk.

Dark and Sour both gave Midnight shocked expressions. “Not in this lifetime.” Dark said.

“Finally we agree on something.” Sour said.

“Alright you both don’t have to share.” Midnight said.

“Good.” Dark and Sour said at the same time.

“I’ll just cut both of your final grades for this semester in half.” Midnight said still smiling.

Dark and Sour were now wide eyed. “You can’t do that!” They both yelled.

Midnight then put a hand on the desk and looked at the two. “Wanna bet?” She asked.

Dark and Sour looked at each other, then back at Midnight.

“Well?” She asked.

Dark growled and slammed his book on Sour’s desk.

“Ow. What the heck?” Sour said.

“Oh I’m sorry, did I hurt you?” Dark asked.

“Dark, apologise.” Midnight said.

“And if I don’t want to?” Dark asked.

Midnight only glared at her son.

Dark growled, “I’m sorry.”

“Thank you.” Midnight said. She walked back to her desk.

Sour opened the book and began flipping through pages, “Um, which pages were we supposed to read?”

“Pages 48 - 54.” Dark said in a calm voice.

I… Thank you.” Sour said in a calm voice.

“You’re… Welcome.” Dark replied.

The rest of class was pretty calm, Dark and Sour didn’t argue and managed to get their work done before class ended.

“Alright we’re done.” Sour said closing the textbook.

“Good, now we can relax.” Dark said.

“Yeah.” Sour said putting her head down.

Dark looked at the girl for a minute and sighed. “I can’t believe we went that long without an argument, guess she knows when to swallow her pride.” Dark thought.

Sour also took a quick glance at Dark before looking away. “Well I guess he’s not a total jerk, he put up with me for this long and didn’t argue with me. Guess even a stubborn guy like him can swallow his pride in a hopeless situation.” Sour thought.

Midnight looked up at the two teens with a smile.

Timeskip to Detention…

Dark and Sour Sweet both walked into Cadance’s office, but Cadance wasn’t in the room.

“Where is Dean Cadance?” Sour asked.

“I don’t know.” Dark said, “But something tells me that doesn’t mean that we’re free to go either.”

“You’re right, let’s just wait her out.” Sour said taking a seat. Dark nodded and did the same.

It had been twenty minutes since Dark and Sour sat down and Dean Cadance still hadn’t shown up. “Ok, what the hell Cady?” Dark cursed.

I know right, talk about irresponsible.” Sour said crossing her arms.

Both of them were pissed off and sitting down doing nothing.

After another ten minutes of nothing, Sour Sweet was done, “Alight I’m not doing nothing for any longer.” She pulled out her phone and headphones.

“What are you doing?” Dark asked.

“What does it look like I’m doing?” Sour said waving her phone. She scrolled through her music and selected a song.

“I’m not sure that’s a good idea.” Dark said, “Last I knew, electronics were banned from school grounds, nevermind during detention.”

“As long as no one finds out, I don’t think it matters.” Sour said turning the volume up.

“And I don’t want to risk us getting into more trouble.” Dark said.

“Sorry, can’t hear you.” Sour said turning the volume up even more.

Dark groaned in annoyance, “Really? You’re gonna play that card?”

Sour only closed her eyes and hummed to the music.

“C’mon! I’m trying to help keep you out of more trouble, and you are throwing my advice away!” Dark yelled getting up.

Sour continued to ignore him.

Dark growled and pulled out her earphones.

What the hell!” Sour yelled standing up.

“I’m talking to you! When I speak to you, I suggest you listen.” Dark said.

“And when I don’t respond to you, that clearly means I want to be left alone!” Sour yelled.

“And when I don’t want to get in trouble because of someone else’s actions, I want them to know!” Dark yelled back.

I don’t know how we managed to deal with each other this long, but clearly it wasn’t going to last!” Sour yelled.

“Obviously we’re too different in too many ways.” Dark growled.

Obviously.” Sour said sitting back down. She turned her chair away from Dark. He did the same.

Outside Cadance’s Office

Cadance heard all the fighting from outside her door and sighed, “Well so much for mending their friction.”

“You really thought you could get those two students to be friends with each other? That my dear is a lost cause.” A voice asked behind Cadance.

Cadance gasped and quickly turned to see Principal Cinch, “Principal Cinch, I uh.”

“The boy is too stubborn and irritable.” Cinch said, “And Sour Sweet is, well, not exactly the sweetest of people here.”

“I know. I was just trying to get them to get along so they could um…” Cadance said trying to think quickly. Then something snapped into her mind, “Work well together in the Friendship Games!” She cupped her hands over her mouth realizing what she just said.

“Oh? You think these two should be partners in the Friendship Games?” Cinch asked smiling.

Cadance swallowed, and nodded with regret.

“Well then. if you think that is what we should do, then Mr. Steele and Miss Sweet will have to learn to tolerate each other.” Cinch said smiling, “Continue with whatever it is you are doing. If they cannot work with each other, then they will most likely lose the Games for us.”

“But shouldn’t we find them different partners if they can’t work together?” Cadance asked, hoping Cinch would reconsider.

Cinch only turned around, but she looked back at Cadance, “Those two are going to be working together one way, or another.” And with that said, Cinch left.

“Dark’s gonna hate me forever.” Cadance said with complete worry.

She turned back around and took a deep breath and put on a (fake) smile. She opened the door, and saw Dark and Sour Sweet sitting down, looking opposite directions.

The two saw Cadance, “Where have you been, Cady?” Dark asked.

“I um… Had to um…” Cadance said thinking, “File some papers! Ehehehe sorry it took so long.” She quickly said nervously.

Dark quickly caught on that Cadance wasn’t being honest, “Right. Ok then.”

“Whatever. We’ve only got ten minutes left.” Sour said, “Can I go home early?”

“Sure go ahead, Sour.” Cadance said.

“What?” Dark said, “But Cady, you never…”

“Yes! Home free!” Sour said jumping up. She then looked at Dark, “I’d say it was nice spending time with you, but it wasn’t.

Dark growled at her, “Oh yeah? How about I make it worth the while.”

“Sour, please go home now.” Cadance said, “Dark you stay here with me. I need to discuss something with you.”

“Buh bye.” Sour said leaving the room.

After a few seconds passed, Dark spoke up, “Alright what were you really doing that whole time you were gone?”

“I really was filing some papers, but not the entire time.” Cadance said, “For the last fifteen minutes, I was out the door listening to you two fight. I was hoping you two would have bonded and become friends.”

“Me? Be friends, with her?” Dark asked, then laughed, “Yeah right. Maybe in a different world.”

“Well you two might need to become friends soon.” Cadance said fiddling with her fingers.

Dark saw that and knew something happened, “Cady? What happened?”

“Well… Cinch may have snuck up on me and asked why I had bothered to give you two detention together.” Cadance said, “And I was too startled to think straight…”

“What did you tell her?” Dark asked crossing his arms.

Cadance shut her eyes tightly, “I accidentally told her that I did it so you two could be partners in the Friendship Games, and she took it seriously!”

Dark’s eyes widened, “Oh god please tell me that doesn’t mean…”

Cadance nodded, “Cinch says you two are partners in the Games.”
