Chapter Two: Setting The Stage

“Ah, hello, I see you brought your friends, hello team CFVY” said Ozpin and the four younger adults smiled. “Now is there a reason why they are here?” asked the older man and Moonlit nodded.

“Professor, could I ask you confirm something for me, and for them?”

“Well that depends on what it is, somethings are not meant to be common knowledge”

“What I am about to share with them is not meant to get out to most of them, but I do want them to know, because I don’t want any lingering worries about my sanity”

“Ah, that I can do, now why don’t you go on and share this information, I will confirm whatever needs to be confirmed”

“Thank you” said Moonlit with a slight bow before turning to team CFVY and taking a deep breath. “I am not a native of Remnant, in fact I am not human, or faunus, I am a pony, I am Captain Moonlit Novel, Captain of the Lunar Guard under Princess Luna and her top military strategist and tactician. Suffice it to say, I get shit done when ordered to get an objective” as he said that Fox narrowed his eyes and Coco looked worriedly at Velvet unsure how the girl would take it, knowing that her friend was obviously mentally ill. Velvet tilted her head in confusion, it was Yatsuhashi however that asked the question that was needed to be asked to save Moonlit’s relationship with the team.

“What do you mean, not a native of Remnant?”

“Well—”

“Ah, he is a stranded visitor, a visitor from a place unheard from for over a millennia, from around the height of the kingdoms” said Ozpin and team CFVY looked at him confused.

“Professor, you can’t tell me—” Moonlit nicked himself on his rapier and handed his blade to the professor who took it gracefully careful to take the blood sample and put it on a slide. He then deposited the slide into a slot on is computer desk causing it to pop up several screens some of them warnings about unidentified species, closely related to horses.

“Now let me put this against faunus DNA, there are a few basic things that all faunus share on a DNA level, no matter what kind of faunus. Velvet, if you would?” asked Ozpin and team CFVY looked worried but Velvet stepped forward. Ozpin pricked her finger with a pin collecting the blood sample and just as he did with Moonlit’s, inserted it into a slide and then a slot on the desk. Typing a few keywords that CFVY caught, and understood to mean he was looking for any similarities. None came up.

“Now I know you are not about to call Professor Ozpin a liar to his face, but can you at least admit that I am not like any species that has been on this world in over a millennia?” team CFVY looked at one another Coco pursing her lips, Fox nodded, Yatsuhashi sighed, but it was Velvet that walked up to him and hugged him and then stood beside him, much to the surprise of the rest of their team.

“I have one question” said Yatsuhashi and Moonlit tilted his head letting him know he could continue. “We heard he went through many bags of blood while they were performing surgery to remove the bullets from him, if he isn’t like us, how could he handle our blood?”

“The magic of friendship” said Moonlit in the most calm and collect voice that caused the group to look at him curiously and hostilely in the case of Fox. “I am not kidding, you will find that every world a pony has been to through the magic mirror has access to that magic, which is capable of so many wondrous miracles that would normally be impossible, most of that blood was giving by people attempting to give the gift of life to those who were on the verge of dieing” said Moonlit and Fox’s glare softened as he knew that was the case. “Well that gift spurred on the magic of friendship to heal a being whose entire being is that of Harmony and not discord and disharmony like these Creatures of Grimm”

“Yes, thank you Moonlit, for throwing years of science out the window for the theory that it is magic” said Ozpin, but when they turned to him, the elder had a smile on his face. “Now you being a student as much as a professor leaves me at a predicament, one that admittedly I didn’t realize would cause such a problem until recently,” said Ozpin and Moonlit tilted his head confused as to what would be the problem. “all students are placed on teams, under the leadership of a fellow student, you see the predicament, I hope?” asked Ozpin and Moonlit frowned.

“You can’t put me under the command of a student as that would undermine my authority more then it already will with me being a student, and you can’t put me in charge of a group because I am a professor”

“Precisely, however, there is a way to fix this, but you won’t like it”

“What is this way to fix it?” asked Moonlit as team CFVY stood off to the side feeling like a third, fourth, fifth, and sixth wheel.

“You don’t attend classes” Moonlit frowned, certainly that was one way to fix it. “Or rather, you attend private classes by the professors, I have already informed them of the… nature of your being here, at least a version of it, it was difficult to get them to believe a person without foreknowledge of the Creatures of Grimm existence was able to defeat so many and save one of our promising teams” Moonlit nodded.

“I suppose that is what will have to happen, we can’t afford to let them think someone was getting special treatment regardless of the reason” said Moonlit with a sigh as he turned to team CFVY. “I was looking forward to spending the year with you, and learning along side you” said Moonlit before Coco spoke up.

“Couldn’t he be a full time student the first year? I mean isn’t he supposed to learn everything he can before he starts teaching? Otherwise he will be a bad teacher, no offense, Moonlit” said Coco and Moonlit just shrugged.

“I would still need to be part of a team, I doubt there are many solo Hunters in Beacon Academy, save the professors”

“No, it is a fine idea” said Ozpin causing a confused look to cross Moonlit’s face. “Congratulations, Moonlit, enjoy your enrollment to Beacon Academy. I suppose we can work on getting your employment after you graduate.”

“Celestial Sisters… This wasn’t what I was expecting” said Moonlit as he threw his arms up in exasperation as they walked out of the building, he was still given a professor’s room, and the privileges and responsibilities of a student for at least the first year, and Moonlit planned to graduate after the first year.

“I know, but at least you will be able to say you learned something before you have to start teaching” said Velvet and Moonlit shifted his eyes to her for a moment, his gaze softening. Something told him that although she was most likely a good fighter, she did not like conflict with others. Suddenly Moonlit’s eyes moved to Velvet’s ears and he tilted his head.

“I apologize for asking this, but are they real?” asked Moonlit pointing to the top his head where the ears would have been if he was her, the team seemed to tense unconsciously although Moonlit ignored it as Velvet tilted her head in confusion her ears twitching before she reached and tugged her ear down.

“You mean these? Of course they are real, have you even seen what you look like?” asked the faunus and Moonlit nodded with a shrug.

“I assumed it was because I came from Equestria, not because of anything special” responded Moonlit with a level voice a smile on his face and Velvet smiled in return before walking over to him and poking him on the horn with a finger and then running said finger down it making Moonlit shudder. Seeing this Velvet eeped and jumped away a blush on her face Moonlit looked away from her as Coco and the rest of team CFVY looked between their teammate and their new friend. Coco just grinned…
