Chapter 5: A Night In Hooves

Chapter 5: A Night In Hooves

I grabbed my cup and moved to my window beside my bed. I starred out into the night sky and watched the moon start to fall. I wasn't able to sleep that night. Something in me felt missing. It was Rainbow. After we said our goodbyes yesterday, the moon had began to rise. Rainbow wanted me to come inside. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't risk anything. I didn't want things to go too fast in between us. But now I regret ever leaving her there. She understood why I didn't want to rush things. But I feel that she hated the fact I wouldn't stay. Rain had began to fall and I shut my window. The rain reminded me of my work that had to start up again in a few days. I went downstairs and sat on my couch and sipped the rest of my coffee from the cup. Suddenly, a couple of knocks echoed throughout my home. I stood up and slowly opened the door to see a drenched Rainbow Dash standing in the cold rain.

"What are you doing Dash? Come in out of the rain." I said opening the door.

She walked inside and I grabbed a towel from the bathroom. I heard her sniffling as she shivered on the floor of my home. I quickly wrapped the towel around her and moved her to the fireplace. After a few attempts it ignited and I stepped into the kitchen to grab some warm coffee. I handed her the cup and she began to drink the liquids inside. I pulled her close to me, to comfort and warm her.

"Why were you out in the rain, Dash?" I asked her in a whisper.

"I couldn't stay away from you. I couldn't sleep once you left, and I had to come see you. You don't have to have... Sex with me, Breeze. I just want to be in your embrace again." she said in between sniffles.

"I'm not going anywhere, Dash. And to tell you the truth. I couldn't sleep well either. You've been on my mind since I left you at your home. And I apologize that I didn't stay. I probably should have." I said holding her.

"I don't want to seem needy to you, Breeze. But can I stay with you for the night?" She asked placing the cup on the floor.

"Rainbow, I'm not going to kick you back out into the rain. You can stay here for as long as you want. I love you, and I realize now that I will do anything that will make you happy." I said kissing her on the head.

"Thank you, Breeze." She said laying her head on my shoulder.

I watched as the fire crackled and burned away. Rainbow had fall asleep and I could feel her breathing on my shoulder. I carefully picked her up and hovered up the stairs to my room. I figured I would give her the bed as I took the couch. I put her on the bed and she rested her head on the covers and I placed the covers over her and began to slowly walk out the room. Then I heard movement in the bed.

"Wait, Breeze." Dash said, half asleep. "Please, can you sleep with me?"

I turned back and nodded my head. I flicked off the light and made my way towards the bed. I hopped on and climbed under with the covers with Dash. She cuddled up to me and rested her head on my chest. I wrapped a hoof around her and pulled her in closer to share warmth.

"Goodnight, Dash." I whispered

"Goodnight, Breeze. And thank you for letting me stay." she whispered back. I gave her a kiss on the head and laid my head back down on the pillow. I felt my eyes grow heavy and Rainbow's breathing became steady again and slow. She was already in a deep sleep and I had gotten tired myself. I let the darkness embrace me and I fell into a deep sleep.

I opened my eyes and saw the back of Rainbow Dash. Her mane was spread over her pillow and she was still asleep. I smiled and got out of the bed. I checked the time and it was two in the afternoon. We had overslept because we both couldn't sleep most of the night. Looking in the mirror, I combed back my mane and stepped out of the bathroom. I walked downstairs and saw the towel and cup still near the fireplace. I picked them up and placed the towel in the hamper and the cup in the sink. I heard the steps creek from somepony walking down them.

"Good morning." she said with a large smile on her face.

"Good morning' Dash, how are you feeling?" I asked her.

"I feel fine. I'm sorry I troubled you last night." She said sitting down on my couch.

"You were no trouble at all Dash." I said with a smile. I grabbed two cups and filled them with coffee. I brought her one and set it in front of her. She thanked me and took a sip.

"I'll stay at my place tonight. I just couldn't stop thinking about you last night." She said setting the cup down.

"Dash, you can do whatever you think is right." I said sipping the hot liquid from my cup. We both finished our drinks and she followed me outside. We both sat under the tree and held hoofs. We starred up to the sky and named what the clouds looked like. I grabbed two apples from the tree above and handed her one. We both ate and threw the cores away.

"How about we go for a walk around town?" I asked.

"Sure thing!" she said stretching and standing up.

We trotted close together to town square and stopped at a few places to see what they had. I wanted to buy a guitar, but I decided that the only thing I would do with it would just make loud noise and anger the ponies around me. But maybe someday I'll learn how to play for Rainbow. We sat outside at a restaurant for dinner. It was an old-fashioned diner so we both shared a milkshake and hay-fries. I took a sip from the straw and I leaned in a little too far. The straw slid into the whipped cream and Rainbow giggled at me.

"What's so funny?" I asked her. She lifted up one hoof and rubbed my muzzle. She moved her hoof back to show my the whipped cream that was once stuck on my face. She put her hoof to her hoof to her mouth and licked it clean. All I could think was how adorable it was, even though it was really cliche. I smiled and gave her the cherry. She smiled and took it an popped it into her mouth along with the stem. She seemed to move her jaw around like she was getting something out of her teeth. I looked at her confused because I had no idea what she was doing. She opened her mouth and pulled out the stem. She held it out and showed me the stem. Sh had tied it into a not with her tongue.

"That's pretty impressive, Rainbow." I said holding the stem.

"Thank you." she said taking a sip of the milkshake.

"You know, Aerohead told my that tying a knot in a cherry stem means your a good kisser." I said holding the stem up. She instantly blushed not knowing about this rumor. She grew one of her determined smiles and she laughed.

"Of course! Because I-" She tried to say before I decided to take it from there.

"Because you're the best at everything Dashie." I said leaning in to kiss her. We closed our eyes and than pulled away.

"Yep, that rumor is true, Dash." I said sitting back in my chair. She smiled and blushed again. I payed for our small dinner and began to walk away from the diner.

"Dash would you like to stay at my place again?" I asked her.

"I would love to, Breeze." She said, cuddling up to my chest.

We trotted back to my home and enjoyed the sunset under the tree again. She laid her head on my shoulder and I rested my head on hers. We watched the sun finally disappear in the distance. The sky held no clouds today. Most of the cloud have been cleared by the other weather patrol ponies. Than I realized Dash and I start back up work again.

"Are you upset that we start work tomorrow?" I asked. She responded with a sigh and put her hooves to her face.

"Don't worry. We get Hearth's Warming  Break in a few weeks anyway." I said. She cheered up and looked at me with her beautiful pink eyes. I just now noticed the days were getting shorter and the air was a lot colder. Just being near Rainbow kept my mind off it. I always felt warm and at home near her.

"Please don't leave me, Breeze." she whispered to me.

"I'm not going anywhere, Dashie." I said returning the hug she gave me. We looked into each other's eyes and we leaned in. We both closed our eyes and kissed. Our lips touched and I could still taste the sweetness of the milkshake from before. I broke the kiss slowly and we both opened our eyes. I stood up and told her to follow me inside, out of the cold.
