Him who walked alone

Talking with sun and moon

I jolted awake, sitting strait and panting from my dream. It was something I often saw while asleep, images flashing of all the times I was suppose to have died. Ripped appart, crushed, stabbed, decapitated, burned alive and many more horrible ways of ending a mortal's life. But I lived on, always surviving and I kept going, even if I knew that my life was never going to end. Humans and other civilisations before them wanted immortality. They assumed the with eternal life, you automatically have powers that can help you rule the world or something as incredible. The truth was way darker then that. In immortality, you only had yourself, everyone else just dies, leaving you with a broken soul to walk the earth until the end of time

That was a reason why I didn't like talking with sapiens species. Most of the time they want to be your friend and if they succeed, I lose them and another part of my already broken and damaged soul. I was already regretting staying for the night with the two fillies. They would try to stay with me, forging a bond, and in the end, that bond would only hurt me.

I stood up, having now calmed down from my nightmare. I decided to go for a walk around the lake in hope to clear my head. I needed a way to leave Celestia and Luna without hurting them. Maybe I should tell them the truth about what I am. It would certainly be easier to have the two understand why they would never see me again in their life.

I was now standing still outside the cave, observing the lake and the waterfall with the trees far above. I could see a path, leading outside of the giant pit the girls call home. That was exactly what it was, their home. It wasn't mine and I couldn't stay here. I didn't like to stay in the same place for more than two or three days anyway. Maybe if I played my cards right I could get them to come with...

NO! They were not following me! I was sick and tired of being heartbroken every time one of my friends left me! I should just leave in the night. It would spare me the need to chose whether they can follow me or not. With my new plan of action, I started trotting farder away from the cave, hoping to not wake one of..

"Are you already leaving us?" Asked a small voice being me.

I abruptly stopped, raising my head and ears to listen if the voice talked again. I almost missed it because of the noise coming from the waterfall. It sounded a bit scared, afraid of what my reaction would be now that I knew one of the two sisters was awake.

"Please, don't leave us so soon, you promised to answer my sister's questions after the night." Said the voice. I now knew that young Luna was the one who stopped me. And it was true, I did promise to Celestia. I never broke any of my promises before, why should I start now?

Turning around to face the youngest of the two fillies, I answered "I'm not leaving yet Luna, I... just needed to think about things to try and take the best decision for everyone,". Now facing her, the regret on my face for what I had almost done was clear. "I had a long and difficult life Luna, choices regarding certain matters are hard to make. I do not want to break my promise to your sister nor do I want to hurt you by leaving to quickly, but I also want to save myself from the pain of leaving you both if we become friends."

"But do you really need to leave? Can't you just stay here with us? Or.. or maybe we could come with you! Follow you and not leave each other! Just please... stay with us a bit more time, please," pleaded the little filly. "We have been alone for over two years now and we feel so alone. Even Celestia, I know she tries to stay strong to help me, to show me that we can survive without other ponies but..." she stopped talking, yet her message was as clear as crystal. They were alone. So alone and even if they have each other, there is no one else to talk to or to interact with.

Just like me.

I walked back towards the cave, a determined look on my face. I was not let them suffer like I did when I was young, scared and alone. I was going to stay and help them. Sure, I won't be able to find new things if I'm stuck in one place. But to help two fillies? The decision was easy to take. "Come Luna, let's go back to sleep, we'll talk more tomorrow."

"So you're staying?" Asked the now excited blue filly.

I quickly answered before she got too excited and energetic to go to sleep "We'll see what your sister has to say about it, then I'll take the decision. By the way, how did you wake up? I made sure to not make any noise when leaving the cave."

"I sensed something bad when I was asleep," casually said Luna. "When i woke up, I saw you panicked in your bed and a minute or two after you left the cave. The weird feeling was coming from you, so I came out to try and help."

A weird feeling coming from me? It seems she knows when others have nightmares. Strange... I'll ask about it in the morning, when we are all awake and ready to answer each others' questions.

I woke up again, this time not in complete panic. I notice the Luna is still asleep on her bed of leaves but her older sister is nowhere to be seen. I slowly got up, trying to not make too much noise and let the blue filly sleep, she needed it after last night's talk. When I was out of the small cave, I saw Celestia coming back from somewhere with a basquet full of fruits. When she dropped the basquet near the cave's entrance, I saw something I didn't notice before.

"Wait, you have a horn AND a pair of wings? How is that even possible?"

"You didn't see them before?" asked the white filly. "How did you not see something as obvious as my wings? Even my sister has both wings and horn."

"Well I was pretty injured yesterday so my vision was kind of foggy and I didn't see Luna's in the middle of the night because of her coat colors."

"Wait," said Celestia. "Why was Luna awake in the middle of the night? You didn't wake her up did you?" she was now agressive. I now see just how protective of her younger sister she really was.

I quickly reassured her "no no, she somehow sensed I was having a bad dream and she comforted me. She was really helpful since she stopped me from making a choice I would have regretted."

"Ok yeah, she can feel it when I have nightmares and helped me multiple times to get over them. Apparently it doesn't only work on me. My little sister is awesome like that," she relaxed. "Can we start with the questions now?"

"We should wait for Luna in case she has some of her own."

"Good idea, here, eat a bit. I'll save some for when my sister wakes up," added Celestia, giving me some berries and an apple.

Eventually, the younger sister woke up and joined us to eat breakfast. When we were finished, Celestia asked the first question.

"So who are you really? You just falls out of nowhere, survive deadly injuries and when you woke up, you didn't have any injuries! How is it even possible for a living being to heal that fast?"

I sighed. I rarely told anyone about what I really was, but I also rarely lied about anything. It seems I now had to do one of the two to answer the curious filly's question. I didn't have time to create a good lie, so the choice was obvious. "I'm going to tell you two something not a lot knew about me. It's really personal, so please, don't tell any one about it unless I give you permission," I looked at them, their wide eyes and eager nod were the signes I needed to continue. "I am immortal, I survived the fall because it is impossible for me to die. I have walked upon many worlds and seen many things. That is why I wanted to leave last night Luna, I wasn't ready to become your friend and see you pass away while I still live on. It has happened to many times already. My turn now. How do you two have both wings and a horn?"

Luna was almost crying while Celestia was thoughtful. She than answered "we don't know, one day, I woke up with both appendage and no memory. Two years later, I found Luna asleep in this cave and we stayed here ever since."

"Maybe I could stay with you a bit, us loners have to stick together right?" As said while asking for the white filly's approval. Suddenly, Luna talked and what she said surprised both her older sister and me.

"I saw Celestia die."

"WH AT?"
"WHAT!"
"What do you mean she died?"
"What do you mean you saw me die?"

Both me shouted, then immediately turned to look at each other. Luna took our surprise at the opportunities to continue. "Two weeks ago, Celestia went away to collect fruits and I followed you in an attempt to prove to I was strong enough to go out there. After a while, I heard wolves so I hid to avoid being noticed. While hiding in the small hole of a tree, I saw you run pass me, unfortunately, a big wolf jumped on you and tore you to pieces. As soon as they were gone, I ran home and cried. Until you came back with fruits acting like nothing happened."

I stared at Celestia, not willing to believe it. Yet the facts pointed towards the same conclusion. "If Celestia is an immortal, and Luna the only one with both wings and horn like Celestia, is Luna immortal as well?"

"Maybe, probably, I don't know?" It seems that the older sister was as confused as I was. But if it was true, then maybe I wouldn't be so alone anymore.

"So if we are all immortal like you, will you stay with us?" Asked Luna, eyes full of hope waiting for my answer.

I smiled ans said "yes Luna, I'll stay with you."
