Him who walked alone

Walking through time and civilisations

I'm walking, like always. I have always walked and for the rest of my boringly long life, I will walk. The usual routine: wake up, walk, see something interesting and observe for a while, then go back to walking before going to sleep. I don't even need to sleep, I just do it because most species I met need to sleep and it pass the time. You can't imagine how boring walking all day every day for years without end can be.

Observing is also fun. Watching and learning new things is good. I also read to pass the time. I read everything, literally. It doesn't take me a long time to finish a book and my brain cannot forget anything. Seriously, I still remember a little girl named Zurrata who gave me a special type of flower because I helped her with something thirteen point five billion years ago. It wasn't important, but I remembered.

I'm currently walking through a small town in Canada. I believe the year is 2234, but then again, I've always been bad at knowing what time it was. When you live as long as me, time doesn't really matter.

I like how, around the year 2000, humans though the sun still had a lot time left before blowing up. Silly humans, you can't understand a solar anomaly with 'science'. You have to visit other solar system first and humans had this strange thing they always did. They think that in the following years, something great will be invented, yet the create problems that will slow them down.

The streets were empty, the lights of the houses were turned off. Everyone was hiding, the whole world was hiding. It was useless, those who understood that were partying their lives away. Literally. The reason for that? They were doomed. The planet earth was going to die in a blazing fire. The sun would explode and extinguish all life.

The sun was also gonna come back. I don't know how and I don't know why. It always came back. After all, it wasn't the first time such an event happened. Human's thought they were the first intelligent creatures walking this planet. They were wrong. Our solar system was an anomaly. It lived, it died and it came back, creating a new and different sapient specie. And they always thought they were the first.

I was the exception that made the rule. I always survive the rebirth of the solar system. Yet, I'm sure that I wasn't the first. Something was alive before me, I just never seen nor heard about them. Strangely, I adapt. When a rebirth happens, I fall asleep and when I wake up, I am whatever new creature would exist on this new, but incredibly old planet. Even if it takes them thousands of years, I am one of them since day one.

For most living creature, I'm just another face out in the crowd. However, there always was those who saw more than the rest. I remembered that one group of human who saw me walking on water. Truth be told, I just swam a couple of minutes and found a really big rock and I walked on it for a while before swimming back to land.

Later that week, there was rumor about the son of god who was seen walking on water. I don't know where they came from.

The civilisation who existed before humans also and myths about me. The Zaard called me Watcher, because they often saw me observing animals, plants and other wonders of our strange world. The Hunniu called me Walker. Since their world wasn't that different from the Zaard's world, I spent most of my time walking, searching for new and interesting things.

For humans, I am Jesus. Or was since most of them didn't recognize me as the son of god and in 2127, religion became nothing more then those small groups of strange people who said that everything was better back in the old days.

It was now time. The sun was going to die in a few minutes and everybody on the planet knew it. Humans were actually the first to understand what was happening. The Sirv had a way to save the sun, and they would have survived had they known the sun was going to die.

I stood on the hill, unmoving and watching the horizon. It was evening here in Canada but with how bright the giant orbiting ball of fire had become, nothing was dark. Some inhabitant came out of there home, probably feeling that the end was near. More came to stand next to me on the hill. After two or three minutes, the entire town was there, watching the end of the world. No one was making a sound.

Suddenly, a giant and extremely bright flash of light exploded at the horizon. The town erupted into screams of terror as the temperature quickly went up. After a minute of heat waves hitting us, a few houses, the poorest one, caught on fire.

People already died, too scared to wait until the end and shooting their family and themselves with guns. I was surprised those weapons still work with the intense heat that was still rising.

Some time passed, more people died. I was now alone on the hill again. A second flash of light. A third. Fourth and fifth. I was now sure that over seventy percent of humans population had died. The rest were the foolish and rich ones who uselessly hoped to survive while hiding in bunkers. Even if they survived the heat, they would not survive the planet blowing up.

After another hour of intense heat, I felt weak. I knew the end was soon. I would fall asleep and wake up as something else.

It blew up.

I blacked out.

I woke up in a green forest. Looking around me I saw strange plants and heard strange sound that probably belonged to new kinds of birds. This rebirth was already interesting.

As I looked at everything around me, I slowly tried to get up, not wanting to scare the new creatures away. I noticed that the trees were taller then I remembered. Or maybe I was the one shorter? I looked I myself and saw four legs. So I was now a quadruped. An equine, a horse. Or is it called something else here?

I walked a bit, trying to find a river or a lake to see what I looked like. After a while, I found a small lake with a deer drinking water. It seems that those creature could not die since it wasn't the first world where I saw them. It also seems like this world was a lot more evolved then I thought it would be. I thought there would only be particules or small aquatic fish-looking being. Or maybe I just overslept.

As I looked in the water, I saw my reflection. I had a chestnut-brown coat with a black mane and my eyes were dark blue.

I then kept on walking. It seemed that I was gifted with the ability to correctly walk as a quadruped. Since it was my first time as one, I just assume some kind of strange outside force gave me the needed knowledge. Probably the same outside force that changed me into whatever the dominant specie of each new world was.

Well, it was that time again. The time to explore.
