Generosity

The Crisis (Final Edit)

It was just another normal day at the Carousel Boutique, there were customers in the early hours of the morning, but as the day progressed Rarity found herself with a lot of free time. Now that there wasn't any work to do, she sat down on her couch and looked out the window at Ponyville. The town was truly a place worthy of Rarity's gaze; there where well kept mares and stallions moving on with there business, The shops all had personality of there owners displayed in there decorations, and there was a group of fillies playing together. This was symbolic of the communities strength.

However, although all of this was beautiful in the eyes of the Unicorn, there was something missing. What was her role in it? That was the question that materialized in the unicorns head. She spoke aloud to no one, "Really, what is my part in it? What does it mean to be the mare of Generosity?" As she spoke she contorted her equine body in a very dramatic way. She pondered both of those questions. To the town of Ponyville she was always viewed as the embodiment of Generosity, but was she really that generous? All she did was make dresses for her posh clients all day. When she was done with her work she went out with her friends to hangout. Yeah she had given poor clients hand-outs before, and she liked to pay for dinner when she was eating with her friends. But other than that, her two biggest concerns in her life were her business, and having a hot prince as her colt-friend.

She looked around at everything in her boutique; all the lavish decoration, all the things to further her facade. She audibly sighed, gave a dramatic swoon of her head, and thrust it into the cushion of the couch. She decided that she needed something else to do, for the sake of occupying her time, and for keeping her sanity. She reached for the table that sat in-front of her couch, and grabbed the morning newspaper. She began to read the stories that where given, but something was wrong. She processed the information she read differently than usual.

As she read every story and every article, she was more critical of the things that were written, they all had an artificial feel to them. First she was critical of herself, and now she was critical of others. She simply didn't care about Vinyl's new song or the nice flower shop on main street. Then her eyes glanced upon an ad that made her gasp."That is what I must do!" She shouted dramatically to herself, " Then there will truly be no doubt that I am the most generous mare in all of Equestria." The ad had a picture of a sad looking stallion, neglected to the point where his bones where showing, and a caption that read, "A chance of a life time, come to Saungua to help the locals, and truly make a difference!"

Saungua was a province that was in the southern parts of Equestria. It was a region that was characterized by it's mountains which are surrounded by a large desert. Due to this combination, this was not a place of technological advance and there was not a high quality of living. The Saunguans; a group of nice, but poor ponies, were at war with the neighboring province. The Benquins, a group of warriors, that have no respect for other ponies. Due to this both the provinces where featured in the newspaper frequently, and Princess Celestia has made a great effort to aid the Saunguans.

Rarity thought about the adventure she could have, helping a war torn province and it's ponies. Also, she knew this would be the perfect opportunity for her to prove to herself that she was really the element of Generosity. Rarity got out a set of parchment and ink, then she began to write, and after sent this parchment through magic. On the parchment was a letter to Princess Celestia, telling the princess of her wish, and asking for passage to Saunguan. As she waited for Celestia's response, finding some content, she read the rest of the morning newspaper. Just as she got done with the final article she felt a tingle in her horn. that was her cue to use her magic to make the response letter appear. Rarity grabbed the letter in her hooves, opened it, and began to read it's contents.

Celestia had responded with great joy, she though that is was a great opportunity for Rarity to help others out. She wrote that she would be given a carriage full of supplies and an escort by the morrow. Rarity was shocked by how sudden she was going to have to leave, so after reading the letter she began to pack. Before she know it she had eight full suitcases on her bed. Coming out of her packing daze, she sighed, "Rarity, remember, pack light." She repacked her favorite clothes and cosmetic necessities, this time only filling one suitcase. Afterwords she made a sign to hang out front of her shop, one that would advertise that she was gone and that she would not be open for the foreseeable future. She then went to meet her friends and tell them about the coming adventure. Twilight was overjoyed; Applejack gave her some apples in a pouch to take with her; Pinkie was Pinkie, Rainbow said that being in a war torn city would be cool, and Fluttershy told her to have fun.

After the gay meeting with her friends she made her way back to the boutique. Now that all of the preparation work was done, she got ready to, "Hit the hay." She laid in her lavish bed and thought to herself, this was the last time for a long time she would sleep in it. She looked at the ceiling and slowly drifted off to sleep. Her dreams were filled with the distorted ideas of what was to come. It was there Rarity slept undisturbed until morning came.
