The first Bastion

Openning the path to equus

Inside one of Volskaya's factories, a strange group was standing over a glowing blue machine that looked like a disk. The machine was one of Symmetra's teleporter. However, this teleporter was slightly different as Symmetra and Torbjörn modified it to transport more than six heroes before becoming unusable. If everything was going according to plan, this new and improved teleporter could transport over twenty heroes into action as soon as they came back from the dead.

"So... Who's gonna test this now that it's completed?" Asked Torbjörn while looking at Soldier, Reinhardt, Bastion and Symmetra for an answer.

"Reinhardt and me are way too old to test you youngsters' creation. If there is even a small problem, it might kill us. And honestly, I thought that Bastion was here to test your new toy. I mean, we're in Russia and Russians hate omnics so there is no other reason for Bastion to be here except test this," said Soldier while pointing at the shinny blue disk and the nature loving war machine.

"Beep beep bob bap bap beeb," answered Bastion. And by the reaction of everyone in the room, the bot's message failed to be understood. It seemed that only the robot's best friend, the bird called Ganymede, understood clearly what Bastion was talking about. Sadly, no one in the room was a small yellow equine who loved taking care of animals and could understand them.

"Well we brought him with us to protect us against Talon agents while we worked on the super teleporter," replied the best Indian tech support lady. "But I guess we could use him as a tester since if something goes wrong, we can always repair him."

"Well then, why are we still standing here without moving? Let's get to work!" Shouted the giant German hero. "Could you activate the machine for Bastion m'lady? The soldier and me will defend you against any threat that might come our way. If any comes our way that is."

The Indian woman walked to the other end of the room as she readied her ultimate's exit. "I have opened the path. Bastion, my friend, feel free to go through when you are ready," Symmetra said calmly as she activated both ends of her upgraded ultimate.

The group of four heroes watched silently as Bastion walked towards the teleporter, as ready as he would ever be. With his friend Ganymede perched on the bot's shoulder, the iconic duo finally arrived in front of the glowing blue disk on the ground. Determined to go through with this, the Omnic stepped on the machine. But a that exact moment, everything went wrong for the group. The factory's alarm activated itself and the heroes heard people shouting nearby. The small Sweden builder noticed that their project was taking a long time to start. As a matter of fact, the teleportation device actually had to charge up before transporting Bastion across the room.

"Watch out and get behind me!" Shouted Reinhardt as he activated his shield and took out his giant rocket hammer. "That Talon agent sniper is here! She won't be able to shoot you if you stay behind my shield."

However, the old German did not realise that while he was protecting the group, he was standing too far away from Bastion. Leaving him and the still charging teleporter directly in the spider sniper lady's sight. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the cold blooded sniper did not decide to end the Omnics' life, but rather to shoot directly at the almost fully charged machine under the war robot. The well aimed bullet caused the Indian invention to blow up.

"Bastion! Get under the shield or she's going to kill you!" Cried Symmetra in total panic. Sadly, the sound made by the sniper bullet caused the bot's blue eye to turn red. The two builders panicked even more, now that they understood that the robot was back into a murdering machine.

However, luck was smiling upon the small group, as the overcharged and completely destroyed teleporting device's energy had to go somewhere. And what better place to go than the triggered war bot standing just above the uncontained energy?

In a blue, green and white flash, Bastion became a magician and escaped without moving. Or at least, he did not move through space, but he moved through dimensions. After the inexplicable flash of multicolor light, the four remaining heroes braved the storm of snow and ice to get to safety.

(Equestria, an unknown forest)

If anyone had been standing in the forest, there would realise that it was unnaturally silent. No birds were singing and no animals were shouting. It might be normal considering the loud explosion like noise that echoed through the forest just a moment ago.

At the end of a trail going through multiple destroyed trees was a unmoving glowing red light. After a couple of hours, the source of the light started to move. The strange figure, who was slowly standing up, was making a lot of unnatural noises for every animal of the forest.

As the being slowly walked away, one of the inhabitants of the Everfree had enough courage to go closer to the outsider. Said creature was a manticore. Bastion only noticed the mythical investigator of the magical forest.

As the manticore growled aggressively, the displaced bot turned around to face the angry animal. After fifteen seconds doing nothing but staring at each other, Bastion, still triggered from Widowmaker, changed his configuration to turret mode.

As the manticore roared angrily, charging toward the now completely modified robot, Bastion took aim. When he started to shoot, time went in slow motion. The agressive manticore felt the bullets connect to his soft flesh and immediately understood that he was doomed.

After killing the creature, the war machine switched back into recon mode and walked away from the glade, uncaring about the dead body of a creature that could not even eat metal. Unknown to Bastion, this was only the beginning.
