A wish to the moon

A wish to the moon

I was a brony, unfortunately no one else I knew was. So I kept it a secret, at least when out in public. My house however, was covered with small pony figurines and paintings. They were all special to me, but one held a spot ever so close to my heart, Princess Luna. I'm not entirely sure why, I guess in my mind she was somewhat like me, preferring to stay away from the general populace and, as per her generally accepted fanon persona, sit around playing video games.

It was because of this pseudo-love I had for her that when a very special type of moon was coming up, I began to feel much happier than normal. It was going to be a blue moon. However that wasn't the only thing, it was also going to be the blood moon, as well as a lunar eclipse. I felt that Luna had set this up as a gift for us, and I had every intention to make a wish on this once-in-an-eternity event.

I decided to take walk to pass time until nightfall. During this walk however, I managed to find a rather large chunk of obsidian. What was odd about it was that it had been just sitting on the ground. I picked it up, being careful not to cut myself. It was about 2 pounds in weight and about a quarter the size of my head. I pocketed it as trophy of my walk and continued. I had always liked the look of obsidian, and always thought of it as a sign of good fortune, even though it held quite a history.

I made it back just as dusk approached, just as planned. I simply laid on the ground and waited. As the moon began to rise, it gave off an incredibly bright brown-red glow. It was beautiful. At around midnight, when the moon reached its peak, I took out the obsidian I had and held it against my chest, closed my eyes, and made my wish.

It was late, so I had gone to my bed to finally get some rest. It was when I awoke that morning I received the surprise of my life. There, in the middle of my bedroom, sat Luna. In doubt I stood up and began to walk over to her. As I did she spoke, "I heard your wish. You were the only one that had decided to make one directly to me, so I have decided to grant you that wish." This was consoling to me, not only because of what she said, but the mere fact I could hear her. As I came closer to her, I also began to smell her. She smelled of a clean, cold winter's night. Another check off my list to prove her actual existence. When I finally came close enough to touch her I did so. And, as expected, I could. I decided to pass on the last check, for it would've been most awkward. I was therefor satisfied, and hopped on her. Her horn began to glow; everything went black, and when I came to, I saw Equestria. My heart leaped with joy, and a small tear formed on my cheeck.

Luna and I spent the day together as she showed me around her world and explained everything. it was wonderful, the first completely care-free day I've had in years. It was a bit weird, being the only human here. But the ponies didn't really seem to mind my presence. I also had to get use to the food, though my tastes might have changed during the travel here, for I did so quickly. It also turned out that I could do magic, odd since it was believed that one could only use magic through the focus of a horn. Though I did point out that pegasi must have some form of magic, for their wings are much to small to allow for flight. At this it became simply accepted that I could do magic. So with this, Luna began to teach me minor spells. The majority of the day, however, was spent simply enjoying the world.

It had been decided that I would stay with Luna until more permanent living arrangements could be made. We had grown close during the our day together, so no objections were made. We made our way up to her room, and began preparing for the night. I took my bath as she did her thing as the princess of the night. When I was done, she took my place and I stepped out onto the balcony to admire her handiwork. It was gorgeous, as beautiful as the one that had created it was. When she had finished bathing, she called me back inside so we could sleep and start the next when it began. However, to much dismay, that wasn't going to happen.

When I awoke, I was shocked; more so than when I saw Luna the previous day. I was in a hospital bed, hooked up to a bunch of machines. There was nurse, a human nurse, beside me, who looked about as surprised as I was. I asked what was going on. She told me that I had somehow worked a small shard of obsidian into my chest, and it had stopped my heart. I had been in a coma for three days after the surgery to remove it. I....I had died, all that had happened with Luna, it was just a dream? No, it was more than that. It had been too real to be. No, I had been in Heaven, I would've lived the rest of an eternity there, in peace and happiness. But I had been brought back instead. My mind began to fall apart at this realization.

I now live in an institute for the mentally incompetent, incapable of supporting myself after what had happened all those years ago. Many times have I considered ending it all, and return to the place I love, but I know that if I do, a more fiery fate awaits me. I have come to live with the fact I was torn away from paradise. I now know it does exist, and hopefully, the second time I die, I will truly do so, and be reunited with the one I love.
