//------------------------------// // 35: In The End... // Story: Code Lyoko: EG // by Azure Sandora //------------------------------// Theme Song: A World Without Danger 35: In The End… One week later… Twilight was walking through a foggy forest. She felt alone, and afraid, and she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. She heard laughter around her. It was deep, and and familiar. Twilight… I'm still here, Twilight… “No… you're gone…” Twilight said trembling. You can't kill me… I am a God… I am eternal… Twilight screamed and ran deeper into the fog, but the laughter was getting louder and louder. She tripped and fell, but when she turned around she saw what was chasing her. The Scyphozoa… “NO!!!” Twilight screamed as the Scyphozoa reached out with its tentacles to grab her. Twilight… Twilight…! “Twilight! Twilight! Wake up!” Twilight opened her eyes. It was nighttime, and she was still lying in her bed. Applejack was sitting over her with a worried expression. “A-Applejack…?” Twilight asked. Applejack breathed out in relief. “You were screamin in yer sleep,” Applejack said, “For a second, Ah thought you were under attack, till Ah remembered that XANA was gone now.” “Y-yeah… that's right…” Twilight said looking down. He was gone. XANA was gone for good. So why was she so afraid still? “Ah guess this means the nightmares 're still persistin, huh?” Applejack asked. “Why can't I just let it go?” Twilight asked in frustration, “We won. XANA is deleted, so why am I still so afraid?” “You went through more than any of us,” Applejack said, “Yer traumatized, an' Ah can understand.” “What if the program missed a piece of him?” Twilight asked, “What if it didn't work? What if he actually placed a part of himself inside of me?! What if-” “Twilight! Calm. Down!” Applejack fussed looking dead into Twilight's eyes, “Don't do this to yerself. XANA wanted you to feel like this, so he'd live on within your memory, but that's all he is now. He's gone, Twilight. Ah promise you, he's gone.” “Can we check again?” Twilight asked, “Can we go to the factory in the morning and scan everyone?” “Twilight-” “Please Applejack, I need this,” Twilight urged, “This is the only way I'm going to be able to move on.” Applejack closed her eyes and took a deep breath, “Alright. We'll get everybody ta come to the factory fer a check-up, includin Trixie.” “Thanks Applejack,” Twilight said embracing Applejack, “Thank you so much.” “No problem, Twilight,” Applejack said, sighing as she returned the embrace. The next day, everyone met up at the factory, where Twilight got to work on scanning everyone for traces of XANA. She looked for even the smallest trace, but one by one it came up empty. Finally, she had Fluttershy take the computer so she could get checked out. Just to make sure, Fluttershy looked over Twilight's data just as meticulously as Twilight did with everyone else. Alas, she found nothing. “Well?” Twilight asked returning to the computer room, “Did you find anything?” “No I didn't,” Fluttershy said turning to Twilight, “There's no trace of XANA at all.” Rainbow Dash stretched, “So… it's officially over then? Because I totally wanna celebrate.” “Yeah! This is great news! XANA is gone forever!” Pinkie Pie cheered, “We actually did it everyone. We beat the game!” “I… don't think it's fully hit me,” Rarity said slowly smiling, “But we did defeat XANA.” “Right?” Rainbow Dash said, “Not only that, but we're heroes! We freaking saved the whole planet!” “All thanks to Trixie of course,” Trixie bragged, “Honestly, if you had just asked her to help in the first place, things wouldn't have gotten so screwed up.” “Yeah, because I'm sure you would have made a difference,” Sunset said, “Which is it again? Great and Lovely Trixie?” “No no no, that's old news. Trixie has been reborn! From this day forward, you will now refer to her as the Great and Powerful Trixie!” “Mmm… Ah'm still gonna call ya Trixie,” Applejack said. Trixie turned to Applejack and pouted. “Take Trixie seriously! She saved your lives!” Trixie fussed. “Kind of hard to take someone seriously who keeps referring to herself in the third person,” Pinkie Pie pointed out. Everyone save for Twilight and Trixie laughed at that, but soon after even Trixie joined in. Sunset looked at Twilight and put a hand on her shoulder. “Hey? Are you okay?” Sunset asked, “You look like you're about to cry.” “N-no. I'm fine,” Twilight said, “I have to go.” Twilight pushed past everyone and took the elevator out of the computer room. Everyone was silent as she left. “What's going on with her?” Dash asked, “I'd think she'd be the happiest that we won.” “Twilight's been through the most though,” Fluttershy said somberly, “XANA tortured her daily pretty much.” “Geez, talk about a bummer,” Pinkie Pie said, “But this isn't supposed to be a sad day.” “That's right,” Applejack said, “Not only is this the one week anniversary of our fight endin, but it's also…” she walked over to Rarity and put her hands on her shoulders, “Rares' seventeenth birthday.” “You're birthday?!” Trixie cried, “Wait, you're seventeen?!” “D-dah…” Rarity said sheepishly, “Parents wanted to take me out for dinner tonight. Actually,” Rarity turned to Applejack, “Papa wanted to invite you.” “W-wait, me?” Applejack asked blushing. Rarity nodded. “Mama talked to him, and he wanted to meet you in person,” Rarity said, “He promised not to make fuss.” “Whoa, what's this then?” Dash asked with a smirk, “Now you're meeting the parents?! What's next, marriage?” “I don't know if they're going to go that far yet,” Sunset said, “I mean come on, we're still in high school.” “Heh heh, y-yeah,” Applejack said nervously, looking away a bit, “So uh… when's the dinner?” “It's at eight,” Rarity said, “This means you'll come?” “Course Ah'll come,” Applejack said cupping Rarity's face lovingly, “Ah need ta start makin nice with yer dad anyway if we're gonna keep datin.” Rarity clapped her hands happily, “I'm so excited! I'll see you later AJ!” Rarity kissed Applejack on the cheek, and then took the elevator back to the surface. “She's changed a lot, hasn't she?” Sunset asked. Applejack turned to Sunset surprised. “Come again?” Applejack asked. “Rarity. She seems a lot brighter these days,” Sunset pointed out. “She really does,” Fluttershy said, “I remember when we first met her, she always seemed so tense and uptight. She rarely ever smiled, and even when she did it was a small one.” “I'm happy to see her smile so brightly,” Pinkie Pie said, “She seems more genuine like this.” “Yeah, she does,” Applejack said smiling wistfully, “Well, Ah gotta get goin too. Gotta pick up Rarity's gift.” “What ya getting her?” Rainbow Dash asked, “Some sort of rare gemstone or fancy necklace?” “Somethin like that…” Applejack said cryptically. She waited for the elevator, and then took it going up to the surface. “That was… weird…” Fluttershy said, everyone nodding in agreement with her statement. Applejack put on her skates and rode off to the downtown area. She had been saving up for this for a while, but was surprised when her Aunt Orange decided to step in and help her get this. She knew it was unorthodox, but at this point in her life she didn't see a reason to not just go for it. So she wasted no time going into the jewelery store, examining the blue diamond ring she planned on getting for Rarity's birthday. “Are you sure about this one, Miss?” the store clerk asked Applejack, showing her the ring. “Yeah, it's perfect,” Applejack said, “Ah know she'll love it. You can put it on Miss Tangerine Orange's tab. She's my aunt.” “Yes, she told me that you'd be purchasing a ring from us,” the clerk said, “But… this ring, you know that this is-” “Ah know exactly what Ah'm doin,” Applejack said cutting him off, “Jus'… put it in the little box thingy… alright?” The clerk shrugged and then walked off. As he went to finish the purchase, Applejack thought back to what their first meeting was like. Who would have thought that they'd end up being so close? Flashback “That's enough!” the teacher called out, making the two girls stop their fencing match, “Rarity, stop picking on the new student.” The student, identified as Rarity, turned to the teacher and took off her helmet. She was not what Applejack was expecting. She was gorgeous! She had extremely long and full purple hair, blue eyes, and she was wearing indigo eyeshadow and red lipstick. “I apologize, teacher,” Rarity said, “I was just...” “I know what you were doing, but it's not your place to test the new students. Now run along home,” he said walking out of the room as Applejack removed her helmet. Rarity bowed to the teacher, and then turned to face Applejack again, this time boring deep into her eyes with a serious glare, like she was about to hit Applejack. “Um... yer name's Rarity...?” Applejack asked backing away from the intense student a bit, “That's a real... pretty name... My name's-” “Piz`da!” Rarity spat before turning around and storming off. Applejack was at a loss for words. She had no idea what Rarity had just said, but something told her that it wasn't pleasant. “Um... should Ah be offended?” Applejack asked herself, wondering what that girl's deal was. She clearly hated her for some reason, but as far as she knew they had never met before in their entire lives. What did Applejack do to piss her off so much? Flashback “Applejack, correct?” Applejack heard from behind her. Applejack turned around and saw Rarity standing by the door leaning against it, already in her uniform holding a rapier, “I was looking for you.” “Oh really?” Applejack asked folding her arms smirking, “Funny, cause Ah was just thinkin about you.” “This is my training area,” Rarity said sauntering over to Applejack (who couldn't take her eyes off her hips), “You leave now. Let master have her training time.” “Ha! Master? Let's not forget how our last duel went. If Ah recall, you told me ta stop holdin back, and then ya lost round two in a few short seconds,” Applejack taunted. Rarity's face twisted into probably the cutest scowl Applejack had ever seen. “Y-y-y-you got lucky!” Rarity defended, “Caught me off guard! Besides, round 3 never ended. Had duel finish, I would win!” “Oh really?” Applejack said walking up to Rarity and getting right in her face (Holy hell she smelled nice). “Dah, really,” Rarity stated haughtily. “Well, Ah don't see anyone here today,” Applejack said, “Why don't we go ahead an' finish our match from yesterday, hm?” Rarity narrowed her eyes giving Applejack a predatory yet almost seductive look, “Yes. I'd love to finish duel.” That look confirmed it. She did want Applejack. She may not have known that she wanted her, but she did. “But, let's make duel interesting,” Rarity said walking to the center of the room, “Care to make... minor bet?” “Oh? What do ya have in mind?” Applejack asked. “You and your friends have secret. I not like secrets. So, if I win, you tell me who Fluttershy is?” She wanted to know how Rarity had even known who Fluttershy was period, but she let it go for now. She knew that if she made the bet, she'd have to follow through if she lost, which would be betraying Twilight's trust, but this gave her a great opportunity to get a rise out of this sexy Russian girl, who Applejack loved hearing her talk. The combination of her slight accent and the way she omitted certain words drove Applejack insane. She wanted this girl bad, and it was taking all of her power to not push her against the wall and start making out with her. “Alright, but if Ah win,” Applejack said with a smirk, “You gotta go out with me.” The look of surprise on Rarity's face was worth the price of admission. Still, she answered much sooner than Applejack thought she would. “Deal,” Rarity said narrowing her eyes slightly, “You win, I go on date with you.” The two girls held their rapiers up in respect to their opponent, got in their stances, and lunged at each other, beginning their duel, which was even more violent than the last one. End flashback “Here you are,” the clerk said handing Applejack a small purple box, “Good luck.” “Thanks,” Applejack said taking the box, “Ah might need it.” She stepped out of the shop, and looked down at the ring. Should she make this a fancy thing? No, Rarity wasn't that kind of girl. She was a romantic, but she was also straight forward. It would be better for Applejack to just come right out and ask her. Now all she could do was pray and hope that the two of them actually were on the same page. This would either be the most epic and amazing end to their adventures, or Applejack would be making such a fool of herself tonight. Since it was a weekend, all the staff was given the day off. Celestia and Luna felt that this would be the best time to pay an old friend a visit. “We did it, Sombra,” Celestia said, kneeling before a monument made in the honor of their fifth and final comrade, who sadly wasn't there to witness their final victory. Said monument was put right in the back yard of the Everfree Mansion. “XANA is destroyed, and with it, the super computer is now just a computer,” Celestia continued, “The girls seem to be doing as well as they can. You'll be happy to know that Fluttershy has started smiling again. I think she's returning to her old self now.” Luna looked behind her and saw Discord and Cadance walking up to them. Or rather, Discord and Chrysalis, as her hair was now back to its original green style, and she was wearing a black dress that showed off her legs in the front, fishnet stockings, and black high heels. “Chrysalis?” Luna asked, frowning in surprise. “I… told Shining Armor that I'm ready to leave the witness protection program,” Chrysalis said nervously, “I mean, we were on the run from both Tartarus and XANA, right? Both of them are gone now, so…” “I'm going to be looking out for her,” Discord said, “She should be okay now, but we can't be too careful,” Discord walked over to Celestia as she rose and kissed her, “How are you doing, Tia?” “Better,” Celestia said, “I'm going to try and give up smoking again.” “I'm supervising her,” Luna said folding her arms, “So far she's decided to replace her cigarette addiction with cake.” “It's healthier,” Celestia said. Luna rolled her eyes. “That thought is subjective at best,” Luna stated. The four of them turned to the old mansion, each of them remembering the times they had there. “So… any idea what's going to happen to this place?” Discord asked. “We've decided to try and buy this place,” Luna said, “Not to live in it ourselves, but for Fluttershy's sake. Perhaps she'll want to move back into it one day.” “At the very least, we want to make sure that the government doesn't tear it down,” Celestia said, “After losing both her mother and father, losing her home would just be too cruel.” “What is she going to do until then?” Chrysalis asked, “I mean, she could live at the dorms, but…” “Actually, I was thinking…” Discord started, “We could just look after her.” “All four of us?” Luna asked, “I don't know if I'd be the best role model for her…” “What? Worried about her finding your “collection”?” Celestia asked tauntingly, making Luna blush. “Ooh, what sort of collection are we talking about here?” Discord asked. “Is it anything I'd be interested in?” Chrysalis asked. Luna looked down, trembling with her face turning redder and redder. “I'D RATHER NOT TALK ABOUT IT!!!” Luna shouted. All three of them laughed. “As long as we maintain a closeness like this, we'll be great guardians for Fluttershy,” Chrysalis said. “We'll definitely keep her laughing, that's for sure,” Discord said. “So it's decided,” Celestia said, “The four of us will be her family from now on.” Luna, Discord, and Chrysalis all nodded. As they left the mansion a few minutes later, they could almost feel Sombra smiling at them. Perhaps somehow his spirit actually passed on. Dash and Trixie knelt down at the track field, both of them already in their track shorts and t-shirts, ready to start their race. “So, you ready?” Dash asked Trixie. “Trixie was waiting for you,” Trixie said, smirking at Dash. “On your marks, get set, and go!” Pinkie Pie shouted. The two girls took off, this time both of them actually neck and neck. It looked like this time Trixie actually prepared. “You can do it, Great and Powerful Trixie!” Snips shouted, Snails holding up a banner that now said “Great and Powerful Trixie is a Super Star”. As they ran, Fluttershy walked up to Pinkie Pie. “Are they still at it?” Fluttershy asked. “They've challenged each other to five different activities today alone,” Pinkie Pie said shaking her head, “This is supposed to be the tie breaker for the day. What are you up to?” “I'm looking for Twilight,” Fluttershys said, “I haven't seen her at all since the factory.” “I think she's looking for Sunset,” Pinkie Pie said, gasping in shock, “Whoops! Um… I'm pretty sure they're not…” Fluttershy giggled, “It's fine Pinkie Pie. I know Twilight isn't going to cheat on me. Besides, I trust Sunset.” “Hey! You just laughed!” Pinkie Pie cried happily before embracing Fluttershy, “Oh my God, I haven't heard that in ages! I forgot how that sounded!” “I'm… feeling a lot brighter these days,” Fluttershy said returning the embrace, “For the first time in a while, I actually got a good night's sleep.” “Feel better now that XANA is gone?” Pinkie Pie asked. “Not just that,” Fluttershy said shaking her head, “I've got the closure I needed,” she turned to look up at the sky, “I got to see my father one last time, and I learned that he was a good man in the end. I was afraid that the man I remembered was just an ideal, but now I know the truth. Even in his darkest moments, the thing that guided him was his love… for me.” Pinkie Pie smiled warmly at Fluttershy. She was really proud of her for the change she made. Fluttershy used to be somewhat weak and fainthearted, but now she radiated with light and strength. She could stand on her own two feet now. “So… it doesn't bother you…?” Pinkie Pie asked slowly, “You know… that he's…” To her surprise, Fluttershy shook her head, “Actually, I'm at peace now. He's been set free, and now he can join my Mom in heaven,” she smiled looking at the sky, tears streaming from her eyes, “I do still miss my parents, but I look at what I have now, and I feel so happy. I have… the greatest friends in the world. Friends who protected me, who saved me, and ultimately gave me back my life. I've decided that from now on, I'm going to face the world with bright eyes, and a loving smile no matter what.” “Wow… that's… really something, Fluttershy,” Pinkie Pie said, actually looking somber, “I wish I were as hopeful.” “What do you mean?” Fluttershy asked looking at Pinkie Pie, who actually looked really depressed. “I've been trying to stay positive, but the truth is… I think I might end up missing Lyoko. There, I was strong. I had a purpose, even if it was small, and most of all, I was able to help Dashie,” Pinkie Pie looked at Rainbow Dash as she ran with a really somber expression, “But out here, I've always been weak. I used to get bullied a lot when I first came to this school, but Dashie protected me. She always protects me. At first I was just content being the one she protected, but now…” Pinkie Pie closed her eyes tightly as she silently started crying, “Now I want to protect her. I can't do that here though. Not without my cat ears and tail.” “No, that's not true at all,” Fluttershy turned Pinkie Pie around and looked her in the eyes, “You do more for Rainbow Dash than you realize. You're the reason she's who she is now. She told me how much you mean to her, and honestly, it brought me to tears. She loves you so much, Pinkie Pie, and she tells me that she only feels whole knowing that you're happy. She wants you to be by her side, supporting her like this. Cheering her on, and pushing her forward,” Fluttershy turned Pinkie Pie back to the race, where they could see Trixie and Dash still running, “Even now, the only reason she can run so fast is because you're here. You can help Rainbow Dash, you do it everyday. You see? You don't need to be a cat girl to do that.” Pinkie Pie looked at Rainbow Dash intently, taking in the confident smile on her face. To Pinkie Pie, she saw Rainbow Dash suddenly dressed as her ninja avatar with the exact same smile. Was that because… she was there? The race ended shortly after. It was a close race, but in the end, Dash naturally won. Trixie fell to the ground in exhaustion. “Okay… Trixie… concedes,” Trixie panted, “You're… faster…” “Ya damn right I am,” Dash said confidently. She then walked over to Trixie and held out her hand, “But I like to give credit where it's due. Not too bad, Lulamoon.” Trixie looked away a bit, smirked, and then took Dash's hand letting her help her up. “Trixie! Are you okay?!” Snails asked, he and Snips running to her aid. “Of course,” Trixie said, “Trixie may be a super star, but she's also a gracious loser. You better be on your toes, Dash. Next time, I'm winning this race.” “Let me know when you're ready, and I'll take you on anytime,” Dash said. She and Trixie shook hands, and Trixie turned around flipping her hair. “Come along boys,” Trixie said walking off. “Coming Great and Powerful Trixie!” Snips and Snails said running after her. Where as before they would have been behind her, this time they walked right next to her. Trixie even placed her arms around both of them as they walked. “Guess Lyoko changed her too,” Dash said shaking her head. She then turned to Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy and walked over to them, “So, how was I?” “You were amazing, Dashie!” Pinkie Pie said happily, “I thought you were using Super Sprint for a second there.” Dash rubbed her nose smirking, “Well I might have incorporated some of the idea of that into my natural running. Don't tell Trixie that though.” “Hey, do you… miss Lyoko?” Pinkie Pie asked. “Not really,” Dash admitted honestly, “I mean, yeah it was cool and all, but toward the end there, things got a little too crazy for me. I'm more than happy to return to a normal life after all that.” “So… you're not worried about… what life's going to be like without needing to go into Lyoko and save the world?” Pinkie Pie asked looking away nervously. Dash walked over to Pinkie Pie and poked her in the forehead. “Is that what's got you so upset? Look Pinkie Pie, no matter what, you and I are the ultimate tag team. Whether that's here, or in cyberspace. I want you right there with me in everything that I do, okay?” Pinkie Pie perked up and nodded happily. She then embraced Rainbow Dash lovingly. “I love you Dashie.” “I love you too, Pinkie Pie,” Rainbow Dash said returning the embrace, “Platonic, okay?” “Oh Dashie,” Pinkie Pie said looking into Dash's eyes lustfully, “When will you learn? That's not going to stop me.” “Eh?” Dash asked blushing. “You're mine Dashie. Mine forever… Kay?” she immediately perked up. Rainbow Dash nodded, eyes wide in fear. “S-sure thing, Pinkie Pie. Whatever… you say…” she said shakily. She then turned to Fluttershy, who actually started walking away, “Where are you headed?” “I'm going back to the dorms to look for Twilight,” Fluttershy said, “There's something she and I need to take care of.” “Ooh! Can we help?” Pinkie Pie asked, not revealing whether or not she was oblivious to the sudden blush on Fluttershy's face. “I think they got it covered, Pinkie Pie,” Dash said, “Take care of her, okay?” “I will,” Fluttershy said walking off. “Everyone's changed, huh?” Dash asked, looking at how much more confidently Fluttershy walked. “Yeah. Even though XANA was horrible, I feel like he did bring some good into our lives,” Pinkie Pie said. “Maybe a little,” Dash said rolling her eyes, “I'm still not gonna miss him though. I gotta take a shower and freshen my make-up. I'll see ya later, Pinkie Pie.” Pinkie Pie watched Dash walk off, actually swinging her hips a bit with each step. She walked past two boys, who turned around to watch her as she walked, clearly staring at her butt. Pinkie Pie laughed. “At least XANA didn't have anything to do with that change,” she said. She really liked this hotter, more feminine Rainbow Dash. Honestly, so did all the boys in school. “Wait? You're leaving?!” Twilight asked in shock as Sunset Shimmer started packing up her computer. “Yep. Sadly it's probably about time,” Sunset said, “Shame, cause I really like this place.” “But… you can't leave!” Twilight fussed, “I need you!” “Twilight,” Sunset said turning to Twilight. “Tartarus is gone now! You don't have to run anymore! You can stay here with us! With me! I need you to protect me!” “You… do know that XANA is gone now, right?” Sunset asked with an awkward smile. Twilight kept searching for reasons for her to stay. Something, anything to keep her here. “I can make you a new identity!” Twilight said running to Sunset and taking her hands, “You'll be able to live a normal life, eventually go to college, start a career, and not have to live off of hacking into bank accounts anymore, just… please stay…!” Twilight begged, trembling as the tears came, faster than she could stop them. Sunset smiled and hugged Twilight tightly. “If I stayed… would you break up with Fluttershy… and be with me…?” Sunset asked, Twilight tensing up as a response, “No… of course you wouldn't. You see, this is why I have to leave Twilight,” still holding Twilight, Sunset cupped Twilight face and looked her deep in her eyes, “Right now, I'm fighting the urge to pull you in and kiss you passionately, holding you tighter and tighter until we meld together as one. I want that so much that it hurts, but I can also see the weakness in your eyes.” “My… eyes…?” Twilight asked. “If I were to kiss you, would you pull away from me?” Sunset asked. Twilight had to think about that, and honestly, she didn't have an answer for that. Actually, why did she want Sunset to stay so badly. Was it because deep down, she actually did… “The truth about me, Twilight, is that I'm a criminal,” Sunset said honestly, “These clothes, my computer, even my bike, none of that was bought with my money. Even my tuition is being paid for by Filthy Rich. Sure, they're all rich, and they have more money than they know what to do with, but what I'm doing is still stealing. What's worse, I know that it's stealing, and I'm proud of it. You don't need someone like me in your life, Twilight.” “But I want you in my life,” Twilight said, “Even if we're not a couple, you're one of my best friends, Sunset. I… I lo-” Sunset placed a finger on Twilight's lips. “No Twilight, you don't,” Sunset said, “I'm the devil that you want, but will lead you to ruin. Fluttershy on the other hand is the angel that you need. She'll protect you, and guide you to a brighter future. One without the constant fear of XANA. It's time to let him go, Twilight.” “I'm trying… but it's too hard,” Twilight admitted looking away, “Every night, I dream that he's slowly approaching me, trying to corrupt me. Every time my phone vibrates, I'm afraid that it's one of XANA's text messages taunting me, telling me that he's going to come back. I'm afraid… every day since the final fight, I'm terrified. And I can't get his final words to me out of my head.” “It's going to take time,” Sunset said moving a strand of Twilight's hair, “The road to recovery isn't going to be short. It might take years for you to get past this, assuming you ever get past it. But you have the most amazing friends in the world. Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Trixie, and Fluttershy. They'll carry you, and hold you up whenever you trip and fall.” Sunset let Twilight go and then walked to the door. “I'll be here at least for the final meeting,” Sunset said, “After that though, I'm hitting the road.” “Will I ever see you again?” Twilight asked. Sunset smiled at Twilight. “You'll hear from me, as long as you remember what I taught you,” Sunset said. Fluttershy walked to the door at that moment, and Sunset walked over to her putting a hand on her shoulder, “She's all yours.” As Sunset left, Fluttershy and Twilight met eyes. Something about Fluttershy seemed different. It was like she was glowing. Twilight couldn't remember the last time she looked so lovely. “Hi Twilight,” Fluttershy said softly. “Hi… Fluttershy,” Twilight said, her heart racing for some reason. She could feel her emotions picking up, and before she knew it, she broke down again. Fluttershy calmly walked over to her and wrapped her arms around her. “Where do you want to go?” Fluttershy asked. “Y-your… room…” Twilight said through her tears. “That's perfect,” Fluttershy said, “Let's go then, hm?” Twilight nodded and let Fluttershy guide her to her dorm. That felt like it was the safest place for Twilight at the moment. Rarity spent most of her birthday at home, reconnecting with her family. Naturally Sweetie Belle was happy to see her home, and so were her parents. Her mother literally burst into tears she was so happy, almost like she was afraid to let her go. She even talked to her father, deciding to work on fixing that relationship. As it was starting to get late, Rarity was now getting ready for dinner. They were going to Rarity's favorite restaurant, which was a fancy Chinese place. Most people were surprised to know that Rarity ate the way she did, but with how much she worked out she had to get calories to burn off somehow. Also, she loved food. That was the main reason right there. /So, does this mean you'll be moving back home?/ Sweetie Belle asked Rarity, both of them in the latter's room as Rarity brushed her hair. /I don't know,/ Rarity said, /I might talk the Principal into letting Twilight and I switch rooms./ /So you can be with Applejack, right?/ Sweetie Belle asked tauntingly. Rarity giggled. /I have nothing to hide or be ashamed of,/ Rarity said. /You really love her, huh?/ Sweetie Belle asked. /I do,/ Rarity said placing a hand over her heart, /I don't think I'll ever love anyone as much as I love Applejack./ /But you've only been dating for a few months,/ Sweetie Belle pointed out, /Papa says that it takes longer to know that you love someone./ /And he's right,/ Rarity said now applying her make-up, /Truth is, Applejack and I have been involved for… a while actually. Also…/ Rarity looked up smiling, /She saved my life./ She thought back to all the times that Applejack risked her life to save her. There were a lot of moments, but one really stood out. It was here that Applejack truly showed how deeply she loved Rarity. Flashback Applejack and Rarity stood at the edge of the Ice Sector, Rarity still under the influence of XANA. Applejack had just told Rarity to attack her, knocking her in the Digital Sea. “Ya said XANA wanted ya ta kill me, right?” Applejack asked, “Well, Ah'm sure he wouldn't be to upset if Ah fell in here! Yer shock wave won't kill me if Ah defend, but the impact will knock me off the edge! Chances are, Fluttershy won't be able ta devirtualize me before Ah hit the water, meanin you'll win!” “Applejack, don't do this!” Twilight begged, “If you fall into the Digital Sea we can't pull you out!” “You'll be trapped in the virtual world forever!” Fluttershy said, “Applejack, let me pull you out now! We can try-” “NO!!! Ah'm not leavin Rares! Not like this!” Applejack said. “AJ, this is stupid!” Dash said, “Giving yourself up isn't-” “SHUT UP!!!!” Applejack screamed, “Ah have faith in her! Ah know that Rares is still in there! She ain't evil! She's jus' hurt, an' confused!” Applejack started crying, “So what'll it be Rares? Are ya gonna kill me?” Rarity laughed maniacally, “You should listen to others, Applejack!” Rarity said getting her sword ready, “You'd risk me killing you like this?” “Yes, Ah would, cause Ah can't live in the real world without ya!” Applejack admitted, visibly shocking Rarity, “Ah love ya Rares, more than Ah can even express! Ah love ya so much that it hurts! But my world ain't worth livin in without ya in it! So ya might as well kill me right here, Rares!” Applejack broke down completely, “Cause if Ah have ta leave Lyoko without ya again, Ah'll die anyway! SO COME ON RARES!!!! IF YA REALLY HATE ME THAT MUCH, KILL ME!!!!” End Flashback While that wasn't Rarity's proudest moment, it did let her know just how far Applejack was willing to go for her. She loved her more than anyone loved her in her life. Rarity used to be afraid to let her feelings for Applejack out, but now Rarity couldn't be happier with Applejack. /So, do you think I should date another girl…?/ Sweetie Belle asked Rarity, /You know, whenever I'm old enough?/ /I think… you should follow your heart,/ Rarity said turning to Sweetie Belle, /Whether you find yourself loving a boy or a girl, just love them with your whole heart and soul./ Sweetie Belle looked thoughtful, and then nodded, /Thanks Rarity. You're really amazing./ /No Sweetie Belle,/ Rarity got up and walked over to Sweetie Belle embracing her, /I just have people like you who make me amazing./ Applejack was so nervous! Not only did she have no idea how Rarity would respond to her gift, but she was on her way to meet Rarity's dad! Last she heard, the man hated her! Okay, so Rarity said that they were okay now, but that didn't mean he was necessarily okay with his daughter dating another girl. Applejack pulled at the collar of the fancy golden tuxedo that Rarity told her to wear. As she walked through town, she felt like she was going to suffocate. “Okay, take it easy, Applejack,” she said to herself, “It's jus' dinner. Dinner at a fancy restaurant, with Rarity's folks, one of them possibly wanting to shoot me!” she lowered the fancy stetson that went with this tuxedo over her eyes, “Now calm down, Applejack. He ain't gonna shoot in a restaurant. He'd ask ya ta meet him outside first, an' then shoot ya in the parkin lot,” she heard a familiar laugh in the distance. She looked and got the shock of her life. Coming out of a bar, wearing much skimpier clothing than usual, consisting of a dark blue mini skirt and matching leather high heeled boots… Was Luna… Applejack looked down at her watch. She still had time. Besides, couldn't pass this up. “So… this is what ya do in yer spare time?” Applejack asked, Luna freezing in place. She slowly turned around and looked at Applejack in horror. “Um… Applejack…! W-w-w-what are you…?” “Headin ta Rarity's place ta meet her family,” Applejack said, “Then we're headin ta some nice Chinese Restaurant. Ya know what Ah'm about ta ask, right?” “Mm hm,” Luna nodded, “And I'm sure you know what my answer is.” “Rather not talk about it?” Applejack asked. “Good girl,” Luna said, “So… meeting Rarity's parents, huh? Nervous?” “Like you would not believe!” Applejack said sitting down on a nearby bench, “It ain't jus' cause of who Ah'm meetin, but…” Applejack sighed, “Lulu, remember when Ah asked ya if Ah was too young ta know what love is?” “I remember,” Luna said, carefully sitting down next to Applejack. “Well… what if Ah said that… Ah wanted ta ask Rarity somethin? Somethin that would affect the two of us fer the rest of our lives?” “Wanting to ask Rarity something…” Luna asked, “Something like… what I'm thinking perhaps?” Applejack sighed, “Ya think it's silly, don't ya?” “If it were anyone else, I'd tell them that they were too young, and they shouldn't make a decision of this magnitude at this stage of their lives,” Luna crossed her legs and folded her arms, “But when it comes to you, I think you should got for it.” Applejack looked at Luna in shock, “Wait, ya do?!” Luna nodded, “Applejack, I'm a lot of things, but one thing I'm not is afraid to admit when I'm wrong about someone. When I first met you, I had you pegged for just a snot-nosed brat looking to have fun and fight authority, and for a while you did nothing to subvert that thought.” Applejack chuckled, “Yeah…” she said with a smile. “But then I really got to know you, and realized that despite your vices, you're a genuinely good person who always brings out the best in those around her. You don't make dumb decisions, Applejack. If you truly feel that this is the route you want to take, then take it. See it through to the end. After everything you've been through, you deserve happiness.” “Luna…” Applejack said, really surprised. She didn't know that Luna felt so strongly about her. Luna looked at Applejack and smiled softly. “I'm… happy that you came to this school, Applejack. I hope you'll continue to attend it, and you'll keep making my life a living hell.” Applejack laughed, “As long as you keep givin me detention, and scream at me while ya chase me in the halls.” “Deal,” Luna said. The two of them met eyes, and them embraced in a way only true friends would. Applejack could tell that Luna was going to be a lifelong friend, and she planned on being the same for her. “Well, I should get going,” Luna said standing up, “I have to go meet a friend, and no, I'm not talking about it.” “Wouldn't dream of makin ya,” Applejack said. As Luna walked off, Applejack pulled out her phone and took a picture. Luna immediately stopped and turned to Applejack blushing, “What? Ah ain't gonna tell no one. This is goin in my personal folder.” “APPLEJACK!!!” Luna screamed. Applejack shot up and ran off laughing out loud. She knew that Luna was going to get her back for that, but that was their friendship in a nutshell. It didn't take long for Applejack to reach Rarity's place. She wasted no time running to the door. First she checked her pocket, confirming that she did have the ring. She then rang the doorbell. A second later, the door opened, and a large man with a mustache opened it. Applejack swallowed nervously. “Um… Mr. Dostoevsky,” Applejack said, “It's uh… nice ta meet ya. Ah'm Rarity's g- er… good friend! Ah'm her good friend!” She held out her hand, sweating as the man looked her up and down. After a second, he took her hand giving her a hearty hand shake. “You are Rarity's girlfriend, dah?” he said, his accent a little thicker than Rarity's but more articulate than her mother's, “I already know truth. You know you are bad liar.” “Yeah… Ah uh… know,” Applejack said sheepishly, “Sorry. Ah jus… know ya ain't comfortable with us datin an' all, so…” “Rarity is free child. Free to make her own decisions,” Rarity's father said, “I've decide… as long as she's happy, that's fine. Besides, you have good eyes. Take care of daughter, dah?” “Most definitely,” Applejack said nodding, “Ah love her with my whole heart an' soul, an' Ah want ta spend the rest of my life with her.” Mr. Dostoevsky nodded to Applejack, smiled, and then ushered her inside. He called for Rarity, saying something in Russian, and a second later, she came down, and goodness did she make an entrance. The dress she wore was a silver pencil dress that clearly matched Applejack's golden tuxedo. Said dress hugged her curves, opening in the center to let her cleavage show a bit, and the left side had a slit revealing her leg. She wore silver high heels, and was holding a small golden hand bag. Applejack was speechless, looking at Rarity walk down the stairs over to her. “Hello Applejack,” Rarity said, “You like…?” “Ah… do,” Applejack said, “Ya look amazin.” Rarity blushed looking sheepish, “Spasibo...” “So, ready to go?” Mrs. Dostoevskaia said walking into the living room. “Dah,” Rarity said. Applejack took her arm elegantly, and led her to the limo that was apparently hired just for this occasion. Right before going in, Applejack turned to Rarity and kissed her tenderly on the lips. “Happy birthday Rarity,” Applejack said lovingly. Rarity smiled at her lovingly, and then stepped inside the limo. Once they were all inside, they drove off to what was turning out to be a great dinner. Fluttershy and Twilight sat on Fluttershy's bed for the longest time just hold one another. Twilight's hadn't said much to Fluttershy. All she wanted was to be in her arms. Twilight had calmed down considerably, as she had finally stopped crying; now she was just holding onto Fluttershy for dear life. “Fluttershy… what happens now…?” Twilight asked Fluttershy. “Hm? What do you mean, Twilight?” Fluttershy asked. “The fight is over, and there are no traces of XANA anywhere,” Twilight said, “But for some reason… I still feel afraid. I keep feeling like the fight isn't over yet, but I don't know what to do,” she looked into Fluttershy's eyes, “Do you?” Fluttershy nodded smiling, “You're right Twilight, the fight isn't over yet. The rest of the fight won't be on Lyoko or in the factory. It's going to be right here in the real world. Now you have to live your life, free from XANA's shadow.” “But… how can I…?” Twilight asked, “Everyday, I feel XANA around me. It's like he's watching me, and taunting me.” “Do you feel XANA right now?” Fluttershy asked, “Being in my arms like this?” “I… no actually…” Twilight said thoughtfully, “I don't…” Fluttershy let go of Twilight and looked down at her lap thoughtfully, “I spoke to Miss Tia earlier today. She's decided to adopt me as her legal daughter.” “Oh Fluttershy, that's wonderful!” Twilight said, “Um… but about your father…” “It's fine,” Fluttershy said, “I refuse to mourn or feel sad at all. I spent the last year mourning for him, believing him to be dead. When I found out he was alive, I was elated, but at the same time I felt even sadder for him. He spent ten years stuck in the Digital Sea, unable to fully die or ever leave. When XANA killed him, at first I was devastated, but after a while I realized… XANA set him free. So with that, I'm free now too,” Fluttershy took Twilight's hand, “Free to be the person I want to be. So I want to continue being your guardian angel.” “Oh Fluttershy…” Twilight said, blushing as her heart started racing again. This time though, it was racing for another reason entirely. She was truly caught off guard though as Fluttershy did something she hadn't done to her in ages. She pushed Twilight onto her bed and lay on top of her, looking at Twilight both lovingly, and lustfully. “From now on, you'll sleep in here with me,” Fluttershy told Twilight, “Every night, you're going to fall asleep in my embrace, and let me protect you from XANA, like I always do. Do you understand?” “Y-yes… I understand,” Twilight said. Holy cow Fluttershy was so hot all of a sudden. “Good,” Fluttershy locked her fingers with Twilight's, holding them down to the bed as she got closer, “Just so you'll know, I'm keeping you here with me for the rest of the night.” “W-what about curfew…?” Twilight asked, her breathing picking up. Fluttershy giggled. “Didn't you know? It's already past nine,” Fluttershy said, “That means whatever room you're in is the room you're staying in for the rest of the night. Now, how about we get to work on erasing XANA once and for all?” Fluttershy didn't wait for an answer. Instead, she pressed her lips against Twilight's, and the two of them kissed lovingly. It didn't take long for that to turn into a full on make-out session, Twilight still pinned to Fluttershy's bed. By the end, Twilight had forgotten all about XANA, as she was now in the presence of her beloved angel. Needless to say, whenever they finally went to sleep, Twilight would sleep quite peacefully for the first time in who knew how long. “It's about damn time,” Rainbow Dash said. She had been spying on Twilight ever since she left the track field, happy that she and Fluttershy were finally back on track. Now she could relax and enjoy her victory. Dash hoped XANA was rolling in his grave, assuming he even had a soul to begin with. As Dash walked back to her room, she pulled out her cellphone. Now that the fight against XANA was over, she had one more battle to face. “Hello?” Dash closed her eyes nervously, “Hi… Dad.” Dinner was fantastic! After everyone relaxed, it almost felt like a small party. Rarity's dad was actually pretty funny, and seemed to really take a shine to Applejack. They told her that not only was she always welcome in their home, but that if she wanted, they'd help teach her Russian. Applejack was more than happy to accept that offer. After dinner, Applejack and Rarity decided to go to their special spot instead of going right home. She was nervous about doing this, but Rarity's dad told Applejack that as long as Rarity was with her, it was fine. What really surprised Applejack was when she told Mr. Dostoevsky what she wanted to ask Rarity, and his response was hugging her. Applejack guessed that he really took a one-eighty, and could sense that her feelings for Rarity were true. That helped Applejack with what she decided to do next. “Are ya happy, Rares?” Applejack asked as they walked next to the water holding hands. “Dah, I am,” Rarity said, leaning into Applejack's shoulder, “Now that XANA is gone, we can truly enjoy being together.” “Where do you see us going after this?” Applejack asked, “Now that we're in this stage of our relationship?” “Honestly, I hadn't thought about it,” Rarity said honestly, “Rather, I guess it's just, as long as we're together, I don't care what happens in future. I never want to know what my life would be like without you in it.” “Ah feel the same way,” Applejack said stopping them, “Which is why Ah need ta ask ya somethin.” “Is everything okay AJ?” Rarity asked turning to Applejack, “You've seem nervous all night, even after Papa said he approved of relationship.” “Well, thing is, Ah haven't given ya my present yet,” Applejack looked at her watch, seeing that it was now 11:50, “An' now's the perfect time ta give it to ya.” Applejack took Rarity's hand, “We've been tagether for a while now, an' survived things that no one would. We've seen the best, an' worst of each other, an' stayed tagether even when the entire world seemed ta want us apart. Ah ain't lettin that happen no more. Now that XANA is gone, Ah wanna make sure that you an' Ah can spend the rest of our lives tagether. What Ah'm about ta ask ya is real crazy, but Ah don't see either of us ever breakin apart, so… Ah figure why not jus' ask?” “Applejack… what are you…?” Rarity's eyes went wide as Applejack slowly got down on one knee and pulled out a small purple box, “Applejack…” “Ah know we're still young, an' we still got a lot of livin ta do, but Ah'm ready ta start takin us real serious. So… after we've both graduated, would you… Rarity Belle Dostoevskaia… marry me?” Rarity's eyes widened, and she was breathing heavily. For a the longest time, she didn't answer, and Applejack worried that she had messed up. However, Rarity then smiled, bursting into tears. “Dah! Dah!” Rarity said nodding, “I'll marry you!” Applejack was elated. She put the ring she bought on Rarity's finger, and then rose to her feet embracing her beloved. “Ah love you… Rarity,” Applejack said caressing Rarity's face, both of them crying tears of joy. “I love you too, Applejack,” Rarity said. She then pulled Applejack into a passionate kiss. They'd never be apart again. No one, not their folks, or homicidal computer viruses, would ever tear them apart. They weren't just two hormonally charged teens, nor were they just lovers. They truly were… soul mates. The next day, Twilight went to Celestia's office. What she was getting ready to do was something she felt Celestia needed to be a part of, at least in some way or another. “So, you've made your decision?” Celestia asked. “I… have,” Twilight said, “Everyone is already at the factory. Well, Trixie sadly couldn't make it, but she felt that this needed to be us anyway. I was wondering, would you… want to come too?” Celestia closed her eyes and shook her head smiling, “It isn't my place. Eos is gone now, Twilight, and I give everything in that room to you. I have no right to ever set foot in that place ever again. But are you sure you want to do this?” Twilight nodded, “We all took a vote, and it was unanimous. We'll always remember that place, and hopefully we'll be able to keep it protected for as long as we can, but… the world isn't ready yet. Also, it just feels right. Like we're finally putting an end to this chapter of our lives.” Celestia nodded, “You're much stronger than I am, Twilight. I'm truly proud of you. Not just for coming to this decision, but for everything you've accomplished. You stopped our terrible legacy, Twilight. Ten years ago, five stupid adults created something that almost destroyed the world. But then, seven much smarter children came, and saved the world from our mistake,” Celestia walked over to Twilight and embraced her tightly, “Thank you… so much Twilight.” Twilight returned the tight embrace, “You're welcome… Celestia.” After that, Twilight quickly made her way to the factory. She was surprised to see that everyone was in brighter spirits. Rainbow Dash was all smiles, as apparently even she managed to make peace with her parents. Outside of the factory was Sunset's motorcycle, but it had all of her luggage tied to it. That made everyone sad, but they understood. Besides, they all promised to see each other again one day. After talking a bit about what happened to one another the day before (congratulating Applejack and Rarity of course), the seven girls went down to the super computer's core. Twilight walked over to the power switch and put her hands on it. “XANA, if you did indeed have a soul, I truly want to thank you for bringing all of us together,” Twilight said, “You were pure evil, and the pain you brought us won't ever go away, but… I can't deny that if you hadn't existed… I wouldn't be standing here right now…” she looked back at her friends, “with six of the best friends in the world,” they all smiled at Twilight brightly, “So… thank you XANA. Thank you for existing, and thank you for giving me such wonderful friends. You wanted me to hate you in the end, but I refuse to become you, XANA. That's why in these final moments, I'm just going to say… thank you.” Everyone walked over to Twilight, all of them placing their hands on the power switch with her. “Good bye XANA… my worthy adversary,” Twilight said. The seven of them all pulled the power switch down, and all the lights in the room turned off. The hologram disappeared, and the scanners stopped glowing. The super computer, and Lyoko, were now shut down. “Well, this is it,” Sunset said getting on her bike. “We're really gonna miss ya, Sunset,” Applejack said. “Seriously! This school isn't going to be the same without you!” Pinkie Pie said pouting. “Don't worry Pinkie Pie,” Sunset said, “I'll keep in touch. I don't think I could ever give you girls up, even if I wanted to. I think this experience made me a better person.” “You were always a good person,” Dash said grinning from ear to ear, “We just helped you realize that.” “You will always have place here in Canterlot,” Rarity said, “We're not just friends, we're family.” Sunset actually looked surprised to hear that. She then closed her eyes and smiled. “Family huh…? You know, that has a nice ring to it,” Sunset said starting up her motorcycle. Fluttershy ran over to Sunset and hugged her tightly. “Thank you...” Fluttershy sobbed, “Thank you for helping me save Twilight!” “No problem,” Sunset said, struggling to not cry herself, “You two better take care of each other,” she met eyes with Twilight, who blew her a kiss. She speak, else she'd break down again. Sunset nodded to her and put on her helmet, visor still up, “And I don't care where I am at the time. I'm coming to both weddings.” Sunset lowered the visor to her helmet, making it impossible to see her face. If they could, they'd see tears streaming from her eyes too. She gave them all a two fingered wave, and drove off toward the horizon, ironically into the Sunset. Twilight, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy turned back to the factory, giving it one last look. “It's really over now, isn't it?” Applejack asked. “Sure is,” Rainbow Dash said, “Almost seems surreal.” “We actually beat the game,” Pinkie Pie said wistfully, “You know what? It feels good.” The six of them turned back to Canterlot, gazing at the city that they saved. “It's odd,” Rarity said, “No one here will ever know what happened.” “It's better like this,” Fluttershy said, “Like Trixie says, somethings are better left a mystery.” “I agree,” Twilight said, “Girls… thank you. Let's be friends forever. Promise?” “Promise,” Rarity said lovingly. “Promise!” Pinkie Pie chirped. “Promise,” Dash said, smiling. “Promise,” Fluttershy said, gazing into Twilight eyes lovingly. Applejack took Twilight's hand and squeezed it tightly, “Promise.” The six of them held hands, and walked away from the factory back to Canterlot High. Not once did anyone look back. Their fight was over, but their lives were just beginning. Now they had their whole lives ahead of them. Lives spent, with the closest friends any of them would ever have. They'd never be the same after this experience, but no matter what, they'd tackle what was ahead. They did it, they created a world without danger. And no matter what, they'd always make sure that evil went away. CODE LYOKO EG THE END
