Getting Permission

Starlight awoke a few hours later with a wide mouthed yawn. She rubbed her eyes as she looked down to see Button nestled next to her side. The little brown colt rolled over on hi back exposing his belly as he snorted kicking his back leg like he was dreaming of running. Starlight let out a snort of laughter at the colts display. She then nuzzled him in the side and rolled him over on his belly again. The colt snorted as he scooted closer to Starlight again in his sleep.

Starlight felt her heart melt by his action. Even in his sleep he knew he wasn’t near her and managed to find his way to her regardless. It made her feel warm and tingly all over. She leaned over and gently ran her tongue across his muzzle ruffling his fur.

Button awoke to the feeling of her wet tongue running across his barrel. In his sleep induced daze he looked up to see Starlight smiling down on him.

“Morning, Star,” He said, rubbing against her side.

“Morning Button,” Starlight greeted him licking him again.

After a lovely exchange the two kissed and got out of bed together and went to separate bathrooms to get ready for the day. Even though Button wasn’t sure where he was going he still managed to find his way to one of the many bathrooms in the castle without much trouble. He passed by Spike and waved to him with a kind greeting, and Spike do so in return going on about his way.

Starlight went to her own bathroom in her room and showered. After finishing she dried off, brushed her mane and went to the hall to wait for Button to get breakfast. Shortly after Button trotted up to Starlight in one of the many halls interlaying the castle.

“Hey Star!”

“Oh, Button!” Starlight stopped to let the colt match up with her.

“So, what grand adventures do you have in mind today?” Button asked, mischievously.

“Ha ha, no. We’re going to get breakfast and then we need to sit down and have a talk with Twilight and your mom,” Starlight said, worriedly.

Button’s mischievous grin died to a frown as they walked along the halls. Both had dreaded this day would come, and yet neither wanted to have this conversation wither. It was nerve wracking for them both, but they knew this day might come and here it was. Destiny was awaiting them.

They entered the dining hall to find Princess Twilight, Luna, Cadence, and Button’s mom were already waiting for them with breakfast. Starlight and Button stared at the sight of the three princesses and mother sitting down side by side in awkward silence and slowly began to eat. Everypony in the room stared at them for moment before returning to their own meals in silence. After the most awkwardly silent breakfast anypony had up to this point in their lives they all sat waiting for someone to point out the obvious elephant in the room.

Finally after a few minutes Princess Luna groaned getting everyone's attention.

“Augh enough of this! Will someone please say why we’re here, or should I?” Luna yelled out loud.

Twilight coughed in her hooves to make the opening statement.

“Star, Button, we know about your relationship and we all wanted to talk to you about this,” Twilight said opening the floor to Milano Mash.

The older mare nodded. She Then got up from her seat and walked to her son and sat beside them and Starlight Glimmer.

“We want you two to be happy, truly we do,” Milano said.

“We just want you two to be ready in case something were to happen,” Luna interjected between bites of her food.

Cadence nodded in confirmation. “As Princesses we hold our titles and values above all else, but in our society today it isn’t as simple as we say so anymore.”

Starlight and Button held hooves under the table feeling uneasy, but convicted to their goal to stay together. They listened to what each princess had to say and took it to heart.

Twilight leaned over and looked directly into both Button and Starlight’s eyes with a serious but slightly saddened expression.

“While I have my own personal views on your… relationship with Button, Star, I just want you two to be careful if you decided to stay together. As the Princess of Friendship, I try to promote friendship in anyway I can.”

Cadence the spoke up after Twilight gestured to her to continue. “As the Princess of Love I promote love to all, ponies, and non-ponies alike. Love is suppose to be boundless, and it was wrong of me to force you to do so. Understand, I just wanted to protect you and button Mash. If the world found out about you two we,” Cadence gestured to herself and the other two princesses beside her. “ We wouldn’t be able to help you. Just remember that going into this.”

Milano then took the opportunity to get to the rear point of the conversation for Starlight and her son. “Other than that, you have all our blessings to continue with your relationship.”

Both Starlight and Button gasped in excitement and hugged each other. Little Button jumped into Starlight’s arms as she squished him in her arms. The colt and mare leaned in to kiss each other but a pair of brown hooves separated blocked them with a distinct, ‘ahem’.

Both of them looked to see Golden Claw and Thunderclap standing next to them. Golden Claw was on Button’s side while Thunderclap continued to hold them apart with her hooves.

“Aww really Twilight?!” Starlight complained. “You’re really doing that!?”

Twilight gave her student a innocent look, which Cadence, Luna, and Milano rolled their eyes along with Golden Claw.

“What are you talking about Starlight? I told you Golden Claw was your chaperone. You knew this, just now he’s Buttons and Clappy is yours!” Twilight chirped happily.

Thunderclap sighed hanging her head low to the point she headbutted the table. Everyone in the room laughed except the brown unicorn mare who continued to bang her head on the table.

“I hate my life.” Thunderclap whined.
