Right There in Front of Me

Canterlot High School has been through a lot in its days. You have students turning into demons at the Fall Formal, a musical showcase turned into a battle of the bands by three sirens, the Friendship Games against Crystal Prep when they were struck up jerks, and the school trip to Camp Everfree where unusually weird things started happening.

That all happened a long time ago. The students who were students during those times are already graduated and out doing their own things in the world. Some students stayed in touch with each other, and others went their own ways.

One student in particular has her life figured out. Sunset Shimmer is enjoying life as it comes. It has been many years since she has graduated. Sunset has grown a lot since then.

For one, she is married. She married Flash Sentry. Sunset and Flash’s romance began in high school. They broke up, but got back together about a year later. Who would’ve thought those two would soon be together forever. Though Sunset is more of a housewife, Flash had decided to join the army. He’s not home often. Fortunately, Sunset is hardly ever alone because they had two beautiful children.

Their oldest was a son by the name of Sunspot. He has golden skin with red, orange, and yellow hair. Sunspot is fifteen years old and attends school at CHS just as his parents did.

Their youngest was a daughter named Daydream. Like her brother and parents, she has golden skin with light blue and yellow hair. Daydream is ten years old and attends school at a nearby elementary school.

Sunset Shimmer had everything she could’ve asked for. At least she thought.

Sunset was in her kitchen early in the morning. She was preparing her children’s lunch for their school days. Sunset felt happy, but she still felt like she was missing something. She rested her head on her hand while to sat on the kitchen counter.

Her head popped up as she heard footsteps running down the stairs.

“Good morning you two,” Sunset says as her children walk in with their backpacks.

“Good morning mommy,” Daydream replies.

“Morning mom,” Sunspot replies.

A knock on the door got the attention of the small family.

“I got it,” Daydream said.

Daydream opened the door to see her best friend, Sweet Apple. Daydream and Sweet Apple walk to school every morning.

“Gotta go mom,” Daydream said as she ran into the kitchen. She quickly grabbed her lunch and started running.

“Wait just a minute,” Sunset says. Daydream stops in her tracks and turns around to face Sunset. Sunset bends down to Daydream’s height and kisses her on the forehead. Daydream giggled. “Have a good day at school sweetie.”

“Okay. Bye mom,” Daydream yelled as she ran out the door.

Sunset turned around to face her son who was packing his lunch into his backpack. “Hey Sunspot.”

“Yeah mom?”

“Y-You don’t mind if I walk you to school do you? I mean with your father being out of town and all, I’ve been pretty lonely lately.”

“Sure mom. I don’t mind at all,” Sunspot replied. Unlike a lot of boys his age, Sunspot wasn’t embarrassed at all by his mother. He was very fond of his mother and was very close to her.

As they walked towards Canterlot High School, Sunset remembered all the memories she had at that school when she was a high school student. Some of hr high school friends still live in the town. Those friends are Applejack, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie. Each of them live with their husbands and children.

Rainbow Dash lived in the city with her husband and children. Rainbow Dash has become a famous sports star. Her and her husband has thought about moving closer to their friends, but their careers didn’t allow them to do that.

Rarity also lived in the city. Her fashion career has really taken off. She is the only one of her friends who didn’t marry and have children. She has admitted that she regret not getting to experience the things her friends experienced. Rarity has considered adopting, but just hasn’t had the time to think things through.

Twilight was married to Timber Spruce. They lived in forest at Camp Everfree. Together, they had a daughter by the name Of Everfree Daisy named after the family camp she was born into and her aunt: Gloriosa Daisy.

“Bye mom,” Sunspot said to Sunset as he walked into school.

“Bye son,” she replied.

Sunset walked back by herself. She passed by the portal. Twilight from the pony world closed the portal. Not because she wanted it closed but to prevent others from the human world from accidentally going through. “Alone again,” Sunset said to herself.

Sunset walked up to Sugarcube Corner. She remembered being in high school, and her friends and herself would come here after school a lot. She entered.

“Good morning Sunset,” Pinkie said cheerfully. “How are Sunspot and Daydream?”

“Good morning Pinkie. They’re great. What about Cheesecake and Chocolate Strawberry?”

“They’re great as well. Oh yeah, she’s around the corner,” Pinkie said pointing around the corner.

Sunset came to Sugarcube Corner for a reason. She was meeting with Twilight. Twilight from the human world to be exact.

“Hey Sunset,” Twilight called.

“Hey Twilight. It’s great to see you again.”

“You too.”

The two sat down and had a nice chat.

“Everfree Daisy is all grown up now isn’t she,” Sunset told Twilight.

“She is indeed. Can’t believe my little girl is nineteen already. Makes me feel old sometimes,” Twilight said bashfully. “Your children are wonderful too.”

“Yeah,” Sunset said quietly as her finder went around the rim of her cup.

“Sunset what’s wrong,” Twilight asked.

“Huh what? Nothing’s wrong.”

“Sunset, I know that look. Something’s wrong.”

“I love the way my life turned out. I really do. I have a great husband and great kids. Even after I did at the Fall Formal and before, people are still able to forgive me. I just wonder what things are like in Equestria sometimes.”

“D-Do you want to go back,” Twilight asked surprised.

“I-I don’t know. Things have been completely different since we finished high school. It’s like high school was keeping us having our lives full of magic. It’s like the magic slipped away after that,” Sunset said touching her pendant. She remembered when she first got it at Camp Everfree. She looked over at Twilight who also was wearing her’s.

“I know what you mean. These pendants were supposed to let us keep our powers. We don’t even have our powers anymore.”

“I was born and raised in Equestria. Magic was part of my everyday life. I kind of miss that. I want magic back in my life. I-I just know there’s more that’s out there for me.”

“Sunset,” Twilight said. “I know where you are coming from. When I attended Crystal Prep, I thought I needed more. I understand that feeling. You feel like there’s so much in the world, or other world, waiting for you.”

“I-It’s just, what if I’m not meant to stay here. What if I was meant to go back to Equestria.”

“Sunset, just look right in front of you. Look at the family you have.”

Sunset thought about it. Even though her husband was gone, she still loved him. She couldn’t wait until he returned home. She thought about her two kids. Sunspot gave her the greatest gift of being a mother. Daydream was just a big ball of sunshine in her life. Sunset realized what Twilight was telling her. Everything she ever wanted was right there in front of her.

“Do you understand what I am trying to say,” Twilight asked.

“I do,” Sunset said smiling.

“You know,” Twilight started. “If you still miss Equestria, you still have some sort of connection to that world.”

Once Sunset returned home, she went straight to the main bookcase. “I know it’s here somewhere.” Sunset touched all the books until she felt the one that felt very familiar. She pulled it out of the bookcase. The book was brown and had her cutie mark fro when she was a pony. She opened the book to the newest empty page. Sunset grabbed a pen and sat down comfortably in a chair. She began writing in it.
