//------------------------------// // A Glorious, but sad past // Story: Twilight And The War Of the Gods // by 21latenighter //------------------------------// Again Twilight looked into the blue eyes of Fury Flight, who looked at her with interest and a bit of concern. What Twilight didn't know was that she had burst into the room with her shield fully raised again and nearly laying on the floor to stop the blast that she was evading. "Twilight," Fury Flight whispered as he held out a hoof to the purple alicorn. "Come with me to the other side of this room, we need to have a discussion," he said as he began to walk to the wall at the far side of the room, in which was a doorway that led down a hall. Twilight followed Fury down the hall to a room two doors down on the right side. As soon as she walked through the door, the door slammed shut behind her with the will of Fury's magic, and Twilight looked fearfully at the eyes of the demigod. "Twilight, what is going on, this is the second time that you have sprung in on this time, and looked worse than the last, and do not feed me a line of shit," Fury said with a tint of anger in his voice. "Ok," Twilight said, barely above a whisper. "I failed your only wish Fury, I failed to save the world, in fact, I helped destroy the world because I stepped back from the world because I lost my friends," she said again. "Twilight, I have a feeling that this is bigger than that, there is a villain that the magic of the guardian can't defeat, or you wouldn't have came back in time to find a scroll to bring back the life giver and creator of harmony," Fury said with a straight face. "It has to do with the old gods, before her time, and they have destroyed the world because I didn't take the time to watch artifacts and ensure their presence was never found like you would have," Twilight said as she began to snap, tears beginning to fall even though she tried to hold a straight face. "Twilight, I have a confession to make, and I don't know what I will do in the future, but my past has been clear to me. I have been reckless and ruthless in my disputes, and arrogant in my demands to my friends. I have made poor decisions in the past, but that doesn't mean that it will destroy me now, and I have a feeling that it won't destroy me in the future," Fury said in a sad tone, before continuing his speech. "My greatest work was in the elements, but even that was mislead, we did what we did to save her, but she insisted that we used the jewels to save the world." Twilight nodded before looking to the door. Her power was rushing back to her, and she had to get back to her own time, and hopefully she could open the portal when she got there. She felt a nudge on her shoulder and looked over to see a grey alicorn with black wings and red eyes looking directly into her eyes. "Twilight Sparkle, before you attack me, please hear me out," Kaorn said politely. "My other half has been searching for you and I can't let him find you, but you have to know about the old gods. You will never defeat them without me, my good side anyhow. My chaotic power can reverse their destruction and destroy them." Twilight's eyes were wide with fear, Kaorn had a good side, Fury had been right. She nodded in agreement with the great alicorn, and readied her magic. Before she disappeared into the time stream, she saw the look of understanding upon the face of Kaorn, like he was waiting for her to leave any second. She arrived back in her own time to see nothing, nothing. The sky was black and without stars or a moon, and the ground was charred and burnt. In front of her was standing the five old gods, looking at her with looks of accomplishment. They began to laugh at her, and then their magic erupted forth and sprang towards her, but she teleported away, and then began to read the scroll that held the spell of her only hope. The spell was rather easy, all she had to do was take the elements out and then use the magic of a great alicorn to open the portal, a great alicorn or direct descendant of. Twilight's hope had just flitted away, and her ears sank down and her wings drooped. No, she thought as she began to cast the spell anyway. Her magic crackled and sparked as she performed the magic on the scroll. The Elements began to shine and spin around faster and faster, until they were nothing but a glowing circle, about the size that a pony her size could walk through. Twilight watched in awe as an alicorn of pure white fur walked out of the elemental portal. She was around the size of Celestia, and had a red mane that was straight and a look of love that would've made Fluttershy jealous. "Twilight Sparkle, it is great to see you again," The alicorn said as she walked into the world. "What, we've never met before," Twilight said as she watched the alicorn with awe. "Not face to face, but I was with you every time you wielded the Elements of Harmony, behind your magic, inside you and all of your friends, guiding you towards friendship and peace," The alicorn said as she walked upon the ground, cold and dead. As if upon que, grass and wildflowers began to grow where she stepped, creating a trail of life behind her. "What happened here?" She asked as she looked around with great sadness that made the flowers wilt, and a gentle rain begin. "The old gods, they returned and destroyed our world, and it's all my fault," Twilight said as a tear left her cheek and traveled down to the ground. The alicorn turned her attention away from the world, and focused on Twilight. "Whatever do you mean Twilight, you could not of seen the stones finding their way to the surface, and your magic wasn't strong enough to defeat them on your own, I am proud that you even made it this long, but every story has it's end," she said before walking up a hill where the old gods waited on the other side of. "What do you mean, this isn't the end, it can't end like this, we have to...." Twilight said before tears cut her off. "Every story has and end Twilight, some end good and some end bad, this story will have to end with the villains winning I'm afraid." "No, it can't end like this, it can't," Twilight yelled, before teleporting to the front of the alicorn walking to her surrender. The alicorn had tears in her eyes as she spoke. "And what would we do Twilight, harmony is dead, and the only way to bring it back would be too....... destroy the universe they created.." "Then where is the spell, we can't let them win," Twilight wept. The alicorn produced a scroll from her magic and giving it to Twilight. "Here is the spell Twilight, I think you might find it familiar, the spell called the constellation spell," She said as the spell transferred to Twilight's magic. "The spell that Fury was going to use on Kaorn, but that only trapped them in the stars," Twilight said with a bit of confusion. "And that is where you're wrong Twilight, the spell would of destroyed time, which is what would of happened it Kaorn would not of died," The alicorn said as she walked up the hill. "I have to cast this spell, and it will destroy us all, and rewrite time," Twilight said with a little nervousness in her voice. "No twilight, it will not, but if another would give their life and cast the spell, you could restart the great clock and the universe," The alicorn said as she took the spell back with her magic. "It has truly been an honor to have known you Twilight Sparkle, last of the great alicorns, and the last protector of Equestria," She said before Teleporting to the top of the hill. "No, wait, come back.." Twilight yelled, but it was too late. she heard the explosion and seen the light as the spell took effect and shot out across the ground to meet the gods, who were too surprised to react with a shield. The spell connected and time began to warp as the clock in the beyond stopped working. The black sky turned white as the rest of the world disappeared as the ponies disappeared from existence and there was only Twilight. Twilight looked left, and looked right, but there was only white, no shadow, and nothing was holding her down, but yet she stayed on her hooves. There wasn't any air, but she could breathe, her ears hurt from the ear bleeding silence, and her fur was on fire even though it was freezing. Twilight began to recite the spell that would restart the universe. Her magic began to boil and she let her guardian magic take over and fed on the memories of her friends. The magic sprung forward and she felt the space she was in start to change, but it wasn't enough. Her friends had always been enough good memories to fuel her guardian magic to do what she needed, but this time called for a more powerful memory. Twilight began to think hard about memories that could be strong enough to restart the universe, but only one kept popping back into her mind, the memory of love. The memory of kissing Star Shadow was great, it had been the first stallion she had kissed, and the feeling had sent her reeling. She let the memory guide and fuel her power, and she felt a strong magic she had never felt before. The universe sprang back to life as she continued her magic, weakening more and more, but she kept up her magic, watching as the world began to come into existence. She felt the last of her power leave her and she fell down, where soft grass caught her and comforted her as she began to pass into the next life. Twilight opened her eyes to see the blue eyes of Star Shadow looking at her on a bed of some sort. "Your in Canterlot, in the royal medical wing," Star Shadow said as he watched her reaction to being on a soft bed. "I...... love....... you" Twilight made out barely over a whisper, in which Star Shadow seemed to jump a little. "It took a little while to see it, but I do, I only wish that I didn't have to go to Tartarus and back to see it." "You.... You mean it Twilight..?" came Star Shadow's voice. "I am going to die Star Shadow, why would I lie.." "What Twilight, you can't die, we just saved you," Star Shadow said in a nearly frantic voice. "It's ok Star Shadow, my life has been great, but the time of the alicorns is over, and my story has come to an end, but don't worry, even though my story is over, there are many more stories that are waiting to begin, but promise me this," Twilight said softly to the unicorn in front of him. "Anything Twilight, anything," Star Shadow said. "Be better to them than we were Star Shadow, be the king that this world deserves, and one more thing," Twilight said before choking. "I will wait for you on the shores of the beyond," she said before her last breath left her body and escaped the dying alicorn. Her eyes closed with the final sight of Star shadow, and a light from the medical wing. Her eyes opened to see the eyes of five ponies she had missed for a thousand years. She also seen the shores of a massive sea, a shore of white sand with an almost glass surface of the water in front of her. "Twilight," came the voice of her former teacher and mentors, Fury Flight and Princess Celestia. She smiled and began to walk towards the ponies that she had spent the last one thousand years grieving for. The reign of King Star Shadow was long and prosperous, and when the day finally came that King Star Shadow left the world, he was joyfully waiting to die and leave the world, saying only that he was going to his queen.
