When a human clone from the Grand Canyon Province is transported to the Equestrian Wasteland, he finds that his surroundings are not all that's unfamiliar.
I 'd forgotten about this story! Even thought Finders was a damn Pegasus for a second. :P Glad things are moving again. Pro Tip: digging out a bullet isn't essential, only repairing the damage it did. Hope she's okay though !
5361492 I'll be the first to admit that I may use too many cliff-hangers, but then again, cliff-hangers are some of the best ways to end a chapter. Well, the easiest.
5454227 No, not Fallout 3 at all. It's not a Fallout 3 crossover, it's a Fallen Earth crossover. Two completely different games. Arizona is a completely different place than Washington DC.
5598359 Not quite. Still working on the chapter. A bone will be thrown though: the intrepid duo finally leave the one horse (quite literally) town of Haybale.
There is a certain segment that makes me wish I didn't have to deal with it, but we can't have everything, and thus I need to work through it.
5459421 Don't 'cha just love it when people choose not to read the description? It's like that moment when your friends tell you they got you a birthday cake, but what they really got you was a pallet of toilet paper.
5625481 hey are you going to make him craft a fine weapon out of junk becasue it would have been cool if he carft a bike or a ATV or a rafile gun out of notting but stuff laying around that no one pay mind to.
5684887 The only human-made weapon around is his pistol, so he will need to modify (or make) a weapon that would be suitable for him. In due time, you'll see what I mean.
5687668 Mmmm, but that's not how it works in real life, and I don't plan to put video game physics into my story. Tools are one thing, but there's only so much you can fit in a box. You also need to spend time to make an object, even with the materials on hand. A rifle barrel isn't just drilling a hole in a cylinder, you have to rifle it and create a muzzle/muzzle brake, as well as creating the attachment point where it will connect to the rest of the weapon.
Realistically, you can't do that in five minutes, despite what Fallen Earth says.
5689959 yes it was most of it. the barrel he have to buy and drill himself. see barrels have to be the right sghrt to hold that gas passer of the bullet. if not it would have blown up and you need a lot of time to do that by hand so he just buy one blank cylinder that is made to hold up that can't of thing and drill him self a barrel for his ak.
But the gas system is even harder to make by hand. sure some have indeed made it by hand buy it would take a few days to get that done with hand tools. you need power tools to do a thing to even come close to the real thing. Also don't get me started on the spring for the system.
so ya most of it is homemade but some parts ya he just buy because really no one would want to do that today. but if we lived in a wasteland than yes it can be done may take some time but it can be done.
As you can see it seems to be mainly made out of some pneumatic tool for an air compressor, some springs, a block of metal with a pointed end to act as a bolt, possibly a simple tab to act as a extractor, and a pipe.
Generally speaking the hardest parts are the bolt and finding the springs, particularly for the magazine, as magazine mechanisms tend to use a uncommon type of spring.
Now obviously, since these weapons don't have rifled barrels they have sucky accuracy and are basically point blank range, maybe up to 30ft range only, and their reliability is... questionable, at best.
Now if you're talking good weapons, yeah, those are going to take tools, rifling requires generally a lathe to do properly, though there are other methods those tend to be more employed by actual factories. But in terms of junk + hand tools you can still make some neat short range pistols and machine pistols.
Though yeah they're going to take more than five minutes to make.
All of this introspection and reflection, along with the perspective switching, is making the story go really slowly. I hope the characters of the Saber Company Mercs are going to be reused in this story later, if only so that their lengthy introduction and backstory isn't wasted.
I find it suspicious that an easy means of crossing the language barrier finds its way to one of the only people in the wasteland who needs it, so fast. Though I know of at-least one un-accounted-for entity, that might have arranged for this to happen, so I'll hold off on calling the story improbable, on account of there possibly being a plot related reason (a character's plot, not the author's plot) for things to happen as they have.
ermagerd new chapter wat is dis

5359078 Oh, it's not essential, but you also don't want to have the wound heal around the bullet fragments. Statchel is a sort of "doctor", too.
mother of fluttersHy...
An update.
It updated, woooooooo. I have to do stuff though, fak.
...later.
Aw, I was so hoping for more of a connection and such to be made, yet is just another cliff hanger, you're a evil man, you know that?
I forgot about this story. xD I re-read it. Still good.
5361492 I'll be the first to admit that I may use too many cliff-hangers, but then again, cliff-hangers are some of the best ways to end a chapter. Well, the easiest.
5367698 Evil through laziness.
So basically the character from Fallout 3 goes from the Wasteland of Washington DC to the Wasteland of Equestria.
Eh, not that different, actually.

I swear man, you're triggering me over here.

so any update?

Thanks for the watch and fave, by the way!

Ah, then we shall wait. It just we often used to author updated either weekly or monthly.

5619680 Feels bad, man. Still, I hope you're enjoying the story! New chapter should be out by the end of the month.
5620236
I await the arrival of this new chapter with bated breath and a pack of Girl Scout cookies. The thin mint kind.
5620250 Living the dream.
5625481 i know the game use fire arms but really the newbies use air guns
5625481 hey are you going to make him craft a fine weapon out of junk becasue it would have been cool if he carft a bike or a ATV or a rafile gun out of notting but stuff laying around that no one pay mind to.

5686627 me i would love to see him make crazy stuff out of noting. I mean come on in the come you can make airguns and rifle and a lot more.
But what am really want to see him showing off his crafting skill
5687073 Well, he's a Tech. I'm sure you know what that means ;)
That said, I intend to have how he does what he does be believable. That means he will need tools, and a place to work.
5687550 well in the game they give you tool kits but when you pay with money you can buy the master carft kit.
becasue you need a kit for each skill

5688141 true but than agine we have people make AKs out of sovles
i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x368/_ak_74_/shovel_ak/53.jpg
5688197 That's just an AK weapon with a shovel handle as a buttstock. The rest of the shovel isn't used in construction.

5620236 *Pokes* You said this a month ago!
5688141 Well, um, homemade firearms are actually really simple to make out of regular junk. Though they tend not to have rifled barrels.
For example this thing:

But even then it seems to not be too hard, as a guy in a California prison made a fully automatic machine pistol out of junk.

5769187 I have to say 2 hrs of a skilled maker or 5 hrs to a unskilled one.
but a sample muzzle loader anyone can make one in about 10 to 15 mins tops
