Gallus and Smolder have formally begun a relationship, and start out by going on a date. But of course, the first date is always the hardest...especially when they still aren't entirely sure how they want this to work.

But maybe the date's just what they need for that.

Everypony knows the Hearth’s Warming Eve tale of tribal unity and the shared rule which followed. Everypony also knows that alicorns - singular or dual - have sat on Equestria’s throne for well over a thousand years.

Very few have really looked in to what actually happened between those points.

Even Twilight Sparkle, until a chance encounter leads her to an alarming discovery: Neither she, nor any other alicorn, has actually held any legal right to Equestria’s throne. They are technically usurpers, autocrats - even tyrants.

Still struggling with her own personal rule, having the fundamental basis for her authority swept from beneath her leaves Twilight with one simple, yet impossible question: 

Now what?

Caring for an Alicorn can be hard. Especially when you’re in an alien hive, you’re a xenomorph that chewed its way out of said Alicorn’s chest a few weeks ago, and the Alicorn you’re trying to care for, A.K.A. Twilight Sparkle, is convinced you do not have her best interests at heart, despite all your attempts to prove otherwise.

MLP:FiM/Alien Quadrilogy crossover. Gore tag is for implied incidents in the past. Nothing graphic actually occurs during the events of the fic.

Rainbow Dash finds... something on her early morning flight over the Everfree Forest. She's not exactly sure what this something is, but she sure will make sure to not only keep him safe, but also away from anypony! She doesn't need the whole town freaking out about him!

After all, who would believe her story that a deformed ghost was wanting to burn down the whole Everfree Forest as retribution?

The gang asks a few questions, and receive answers they'd never imagined to get.

They're also a little more scared of Ocellus now, so that's cool too!

Gallus and Ocellus are really different. It's what makes them so alike. In their insomnia patterns, speech patterns, unspoken-feelings-towards-one-of-their-closest-friends patterns.

No hard feelings, though. Actually. For real.

Gallus is finally about to have the one thing that he grew up without and had always dreamed of having: a family. And the night before Hearth’s Warming, he must fight to keep it.

Opaline had stolen the cutie marks from half of Equestria and was rapidly conquering the rest. Even the fake alicorn Sunny Starscout and her minions were faltering before her. One more push would bring Opaline to her final victory.

Then she surrendered.

And even Opaline doesn’t know why.

Sunset Shimmer has been attacked and lies comatose in the hospital. All evidence points to someone who has access to magic. Led by Rarity, the rest of Sunset's friends begin to search for who did it and why.

But the answers may not give them the comfort they seek. And unknown to them, Sunset is having struggles of her own.
