When the Gardens of Equestria were activated, many ponies believed the trying times were over and Equestria would become the paradise it had once been within a few short years.

As if the wasteland would give up that easily.

Monsters still roam the wasteland. Apex predators left unchanged from before the war. Mutant horrors born of balefire. Sadistic people whose hearts went black long ago... The Gardens did not kill. They did not reform. The Gardens did the one thing they were designed to do.

The Gardens cleaned up toxic waste everywhere their light could reach. No more, no less.

With radiation all but gone in most of the wasteland, taint entirely eliminated from Equestria's heartland, and much of the old farmland fertile once more, ponies everywhere banded together to take advantage of the world Pip healed... By forming large yet isolated settlements which over time joined one of two nations: The New Canterlot Republic, or the Herd.

These two ideologically opposed nations have clashed for over a decade. Border skirmishes are frequent. Black ops have been preformed by both sides. All out war has nearly broken out several times.

You can take the waste out of the wasteland. It's much harder to take it out of the wastelanders.

It is into this politically charged world that a newcomer arrives. A zebra from a remote northern kingdom, separated from Equestria for these many years by a megaspell induced winter that is at last dying down. A pity she arrives just as the other newcomers are enacting their bid for power.

This story is based on the story Fallout Equestria written by Kkat. It has been written with permission.

"War. War never changes.

In 1776, this great nation accepted that armed conflict was the only way to preserve our rights. To life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. If our founding fathers could only see us now. From Antietam to Amina, Okinawa to Anchorage, we have fought. And now, the Striped Menace is at our doorstep. Democracy itself is under threat, and our nation. That is why today, July 4th, 2076. Three hundred years after our great nation began, we gather together to honor the completion, of Vault 76. This sprawling underground shelter may have been engineered by Vault-Tec. But it was built by you. The good people of Mareica. So that if the bombs do come, if the end does come, our way of life will endure. But not everyone will be saved. Those, chosen to enter this vault, must be our best and our brightest. For when the fighting has stopped, and the fallout has settled. You must rebuild. Not just walls, not just buildings, but hearts and minds. And ultimately, Mareica itself. So as we stand here today, we pray that the world will know peace. Begins."

There are two big philosophy’s on killing others if you’re a smart wastelander. Shoot, and aim to hit, or throw explosives and prey. Hard Brass has never been a real smart wastelander.

Disturbing lack of ponies taking use of their Creator-given limbs, Brass plans to fix that. If you can’t kill something else with your own four good legs, then you are unprepared.

Reload, fire, reaload, fire, throw. You’ll eventually run out. You run out, you don’t get to run away.

Then, when a pony charges at you, ready to take off your head with pure strength, what are you to do?

Run, fast as your legs can take you. But if you are some morally corrupt bandit, you will never run fast enough. You will be caught by the Sentinel.

An ancient and mythical prison, where the worst entities to ever threaten Equestria have been sealed away for millennia. No record remains of what happened there on that fateful day the balefire bombs dropped. This is the story of the Tartarus Facility and one of its Wardens who there, two hundred years ago...

Written as part of a writing prompt in the Fallout Equestria group.

The Tempest Shadow you have come to know never tried to conquer Equestria. She never joined the Storm King's army, or is even known as Tempest Shadow. In fact, she never even left her homeland to start with.

No, Fizzlepop Berrytwist, in this Equestria, survives alone, as she vowed in her younger years, but as a wandering hunter, killing who she must and gathering what she must to survive, although she is no raider... she experiences no pleasure from the lives she ends, and only does so in times of necessity. She travels by day, living off what little the land gives her and making her home wherever she is at the moment come night.

And in-between living today and living tomorrow are the Wretched Hive, the ghoulified remnants of the changeling species and a threat far more dangerous than any band of raiders; if anything, they're the one thing keeping the likes of them in check.

Fizzlepop may not know it, but her actions may very well save what remains of a dying world... and the Wretched Hive are going to be part of it.

This story takes place twenty-five years before the events of Fallout: Equestria. This story is not canon to it, however.

Part of my Fallout: Equestria Trilogy
