—A Ponies After People Story—

I’ve got a problem, namely, a massive hangover. Well, that and I’ve discovered that my clothes don’t fit anymore. Mostly because I’ve shrunk a few inches overnight. And grown wings. And a tail. And scales.

Okay, so maybe a hangover isn’t the biggest of my problems.

If only I could find someone to help me sort out how I got myself into this mess, I might have an idea of what horrible things I must have done while I was smashed. Except that there’s no one around, and my whole neighbourhood looks abandoned.

However, my ute still runs, I’ve still got some spare tins of food, and there’s loads of extra booze to help me pass the time. Now if only I could figure out why my voice sounds so high….

Long after the Event that transformed all of humanity into ponies, griffins, or other fanciful creatures, and sent most hurtling forward in time, many were still randomly popping out of the timestream. This was a real problem when it came to a whole airplane full of passengers arriving in mid air, and the pilots could no longer control their vessel. Who do you call in this situation? The Aeronautical Returnee Rescue Response Squad!

This is an episodic story which is a side-fic based in the "Ponies after People" universe from Starscribe's story - "The Last Pony on Earth".

Kathryn wakes two days after the Event that turned everyone on Earth into ponies... but even though she looks like an Earth Pony, there's more to her than meets the eye!
She now must somehow travel from Brantford, Ontario, Canada to Miami, Florida, USA in a very short period of time... read the story to find out why.

Although... the title is kind of a dead giveaway

Kathryn's story is going to be a combination 3rd person and journal entries; the former is normal format while journal will be with italics. Teen is for some strong language.

Life After People, a show I used to watch on Discovery History, always talked about what would happen if humanity were to suddenly up and vanish. What would happen to what we left behind. For the most part, I always thought the world would be better off without people, as it would recover within a few centuries.

I just never actually thought humanity itself could just up and disappear.

So, I when I woke up from the most vivid dream to find it really did come true, I had mixed feelings. I knew, at least in a general sense because of the dream, what I was, and was rather glad for the opportunity it presented me.

Then I realized I didn't know how to use my new wings. On top of that, everyone I knew was gone. My parents, siblings, friends. All of them....gone.

Guess I just have to go on being me.

Did I mention I used to be a guy?

That doesn't matter now, anyway.

On May 23, 2015, I woke to find myself transformed into some kind of horned alien horse, and everyone else has vanished. I searched for survivors and I found one; however, she is much younger than I was prepared for. She needs a parent and the only one who can fulfill that role is me, just not in the role I had originally envisioned.

I already found one survivor, so maybe there are others out there. I just hope they’re not all children; I don’t get enough sleep as it is.

That was never more evident than on the morning of May 23rd, the day everything changed. The day the Earth lost billions of humans. All of them, in fact, the few people left seem to be something entirely different now.

And I am no exception.

With human infrastructure failing and sapient life scattered across the planet, there's still a few things this old dog has to get.

In the wake of losing almost all of humanity, a road trip is planned. Spending the apocalypse alone isn't fun, especially as a horse. This is my telling of how we went from the Rocket City to the Rockies with some friends to find some more friends so that maybe we could try to find more people.

Maybe in the process we can try to put something that resembles civilization back together.

The city itself is the same. The buildings and streets remain untouched and unscathed by what happened. The population wasn't so fortunate. As far as I have been able to tell, they are all gone now with no hints as to how, why, or where they are. Only the empty city.

I'm still here, however. Whatever end happened, I missed it.

If only I were so fortunate to say 'I fared as well as my city'. I'm still here in the suburbs of my empty city, but I'm far from the same as I was. The Limestone City might be unchanged, but I have been left with new hooves to walk on.

I have no intentions of letting an unknown tell me it's the end.
