This is Sun & Moon, the story of the two alicorns around whom Equestria's history is indelibly wrapped. And this is its first chapter, a story of the search for hope in darkness, and the lengths a pony would go in order to find it.

Equestria's history is a multicoloured and complex tapestry, speckled with the works of the great ponies of its past. But there is one dominant colour, visible everywhere, and that is the contribution of the two ponies who saw it all: Celestia and Luna.

A comprehensive understanding of Equestria is impossible without first knowing their whole story: from its start, in the middle of Discord's Chaos, to its finish.

Celestia and Luna were born into a lawless world, just two alicorns trying desperately to survive. Little did they know the great destiny that fate had chosen for them. On the road to that destiny, they will discover everything that lay underneath the Equestria of old, and set the stage for all that came after.

In the aftermath of the wedding, Spike is bitter and avoiding everyone. Twilight's determined to find out what's bothering her charge, but she walks a very fine line when dealing with an emotionally distraught child.

Meanwhile, Rainbow Dash suspects something's wrong with Scootaloo, so she starts spending more time with her in hopes of picking the secret from her brain. As she begins to truly mentor the young filly for the first time ever, she begins to see the advantages to having a little sister.

And while all this is going on, Pinkie is struggling with some old family issues that have been brought to the surface, meaning she might have to confront her past at last.

How absurd it is for the Princess of the night to have a night off! But, with Celestia's insistence, Luna really has no choice.

When she finds a scared, bullied little orphan on the streets, however, she can't very well return him back to the orphanage. What better place than at Canterlot Castle?

You always hear stories about how she eats little children every Nightmare Night, but looking after one? Now that is absurd!

Loneliness is a hard thing to face, and for Princess Luna it's lonely at the top. She feels shipwrecked, tossed about in an endless sea of her own sorrow. However sometimes something comes around to change all that, a tiny shimmering star to drive away the dark. And after one particularly painful fight with her sister, Luna finds that light in the form of a foal by the name of Starry Night.

Many decades after the events of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Princess Luna has taken after the model of Princess Celestia and joined Princess Twilight and Princess Cadence in emulating her by taking a personal student.

Crosswind is an excellent student of the Night and a joy to Luna's life, but growing up surrounded by so much power and intrigue is both rewarding and dangerous. Only the strongest of relationships between student and mentor can survive and prosper in the daily politics and crises of Equestria, and they'll both need to learn a lot from each other to do so.

Celestia finds an abandoned baby Pegasus colt and adopts him naming him Zodiac.
