There is a song that is more than a lullaby, a song where hope and sadness dance together, this is its story.

After the defeat of Discord, the spirit of chaos, the birthrate of Equestria mysteriously comes to a standstill. With no new foals, the pony population quickly declines. Decades later, with the passing of the last pony, Celestia and Luna enact a plan to undo what has been done. Does their salvation lay in an all-too-familiar stone statue in the royal gardens, or is the pony race doomed?

No pony is the same after witnessing a work-related death, no matter who they are. The victim was young, eager, fresh-faced, and recently hired. In his last breaths, he let out a scream so heart-rending that the employees who heard it had difficulty sleeping that night. And Rainbow Dash was no exception.

But she's not losing sleep over that. What disturbs her is something far worse—something she said afterwards.

Twilight Sparkle goes to the Apple Family farm to retrieve Smarty Pants from Big Macintosh, and realizes that she may have done some damage to him. Concerned for his well-being, Twilight Sparkle works to ween him off his new condition, and consults with an expert on the subject. Over the following weeks, she realizes how troublesome taking care of anypony can be a hassle.

As punishment for her past crimes, Luna has given her a sentence far worse than being sent to the moon again. Nightmare Moon must move in with Twilight and report to Luna on the magic of friendship. She's not very happy about it.

When Sweetie Belle got zapped during the Zap Apple Harvest, no one thought much of the filly's light electrocution.
