Twilight Sparkle's attempt at food conjuration magic quickly spiraled out of control. But the royal sisters assure her that when properly modified, it's completely harmless. Is Twilight being overly cautious? Or will Princess Celestia and Princess Luna succumb to the same fattening fate?

This is an unofficial sequel to the old story "A Different Kind of Magic" by frylight_sparkle0. Please give it a read, it's very good! The setting is somewhere around mid-Season 2, in keeping with the original.

Twilight Sparkle's years of study in the magic of friendship have finally culminated in her becoming an alicorn. Amidst the litany of changes that she is having to contend with in her life as a result of this, she comes to notice something alarming: no matter how hard she tries to limit herself, she is putting on weight at an alarming rate. It might have been an inevitability—considering how many ponies consider it in vogue to be overweight, she almost certainly would have followed suit sooner or later—but she remains uncertain of what it is that she truly wants. In her mind, she continues to be a mere scholar, not somepony worthy of the adoration that comes from so much bulk.

Then a mysterious incident leads Sunset and her friends to run straight into a dangerous world of supernatural beings that have existed in the human world for eons; twisted souls known as Hollows and the beings known as Soul Reapers that battle them. Where will this twist of fate lead the girls, and what secrets might be uncovered about their pasts in the process?
