Princess Celestia isn't ready to swap with her counterpart. However, with Sunset gone and the weight of her actions only growing heavier, she knows she'll have to go through with her decisions sooner or later. Even if it means sacrificing her role as a Princess of Equestria, and her ability to ever go there again.

This is the original version of the first story I've ever written, over the course of three months as a brand new writer in late 2014.

I'm including these chapters here as a record of how the story looked when it began. This was the prototype for what would, over many years, become Black Feather. The story has gone through multiple complete rewrites, but this was the initial version. Enjoy reading my clumsy first steps into the world of writing!

HIATUS: My first criticism inspired me to fix the utterly jumbled mess that is the first arc, because it was written with no effort to continuity, and the assumption that nobody would read it. There's a lot of new stuff that needs to be added to bridge the gaping holes everywhere, but it ain't dead. Not until I die, anyways.

She is happy, she tells herself as she digs through the ruins of her home. She is so happy she can barely smell the ashes any more.

But in those ashes she finds something unexpected: a small porcelain vase, and with it a decade's worth of unspoken questions. A mystery hiding beneath her hooves, waiting to be put to rest.

Twilight is interrupted from her morning studies by a powerful, chilling magic. But after a while of looking and not finding anything, she goes back inside. Then she remembers that she never felt any strange magic in the first place.

But something seemed off about that one pony. If only she could remember him.

Freed from the malign influence of Nightmare Moon, Princess Luna goes to pay an old debt, to visit a tribe of night ponies who, for their loyalty to Luna, were cursed by Nightmare Moon with lycanthropy. Seeing what her alter ego wrought, what damage it has done to generation upon generation of innocent ponies, brings home to Luna the magnitude of what she while in the grip of jealousy and pride.

Competing for a chance to hang out with the Wonderbolts during their training, Rainbow Dash finds herself in yet another competition. Only this time, things go wrong—very wrong. In the end, Rainbow Dash winds up so seriously injured that she may never fly again.

This aftermath leaves her closest friends scrambling for answers and solutions, but both seem to be elusive. Can they find a way to heal Rainbow Dash, or will she be condemned to the life of an earth pony?
