A thousand years ago, King Sombra was vanquished, taking the Crystal Empire with him. His brother prince Æclypse was exiled by Celestia for refusing to fight his own flesh and blood, damning their kingdom to the mists of history. In the present day, after learning of the return of the Crystal Empire, and the ascension of a new princess, a mysterious stallion named Wanderlust comes to Ponyville, oddly curious about the bearers of the Elements of Harmony. Strange occurrences in the Everfree Forest give way to a devious enemy returned with a lust for revenge. The fate of Equestria hangs in the balance as a new era of peril and powerful villains descend on them all.

After King Sombra narrowly escapes his demise yet again after his attempts to conquer Equestria. Sombra was weakened and wandered through Equestria only to end up in the Kirin village, completely exhausted. But luckily one talkative Kirin took in the dark unicorn to nurse him back to proper health. Sombra was annoyed by the talkative Kirin, but decided to wait until he returns to full power and crush all who defy him. Only if he survives the Kirin's insistent talking. Or, possibly even warms up to her and see the world in a new light.

Finally able to escape the hooves of the Order, Celestia, Watcher and their new companion make their way to the famous Everfree City with the hopes of starting a new life while also trying to find the other remaining princesses. However, old and new enemies won't let them rest so easily as they begin to break down the two unicorns and their new allies piece by piece.

Rick Barns, a guy who couldn't get his music career off the ground in America, has been trying to get by in Tennessee. When his new pony friend, Applejack, tells him about a new talent search to tour with Countess Coloratura, he gives it one last shot to fulfill his dreams.

But when Rick wins the talent show, he and Rara realize that they have to be a "couple" to make this happen. Looks like they forgot to read the fine print. Now one question remains: Can they make this work while trying to understand each other.

Out of unnamed circumstance, a strange pony has arrived into Equestria with no memory of his former self. When discovered by the Elements of Harmony, will they aid him in re-obtaining his memory or will they teach him more about friendship for him to start a new life?
