Straight from the Canterlot archives, this collection of documents retells the rise and fall of Princess Twilight Sparkle, Enlightened Despot of Equestria, Defender of the Peace, Lawgiver, and Commander of Fort Libris.

Twilight Sparkle is, of course, known to historians as the first usurper to seek to schedule a coup d'etat by appointment. But for other details- such as, "What is the longest recorded time a pony has gone without sleep?", "Is it true what they say about swans?", and, "Why is there an owlbear in the Equestrian Witness Protection Program?"- these documents provide the answers and much, much more.

This is ABSOLUTELY SERIOUS HISTORY from primary sources. If anything makes you think this is silly, ludicrous, or unbelievable, blame Discord.

Twilight has had a long reign. She has watched ponies develop technologies that those of the past considered mere mythology. She has watched them scour the world and discover continents that were hidden from view or simply lost beneath the waves. Many creatures and tribes of ponies have come and gone, and the sea of stars is where they went last.

The alicorn accompanied them and acted as a figurehead and council before retreating back to Equestria. Now she is crumbling apart in the final years of her life as her magic consumes her body and the ponies are on the verge of dying out. As she watches the sky, engulfed by a black hole crowned in light, Twilight is approached by a still young mare, unfortunately born in an age where she will be all that's left of her people in just a few years.

She asks Twilight a question not about herself or her future, but about the alicorn herself: How does a god die?

Sequel

Three young ponies take it upon themselves to quest onto the artificial continent of the undead: Arkom. Raised hundreds of years ago by a dreaded vile lich that terrorized the world for two millennia, it is the staging grounds for him to raise his armies, prepare new horrific spells, and return to the mortal realm to spread death and decay around.

He was last seen two hundred years ago after almost wiping out the griffins, minotaurs, and turning most of Saddle Arabia into a burnt ruin. The silence from his realm terrorizes the countries around who only have legends and festering scars to remember. The three ponies intend to do what previous heroes have failed to do: Slay an undead necromancer of untold power.

But...something feels off when they arrive on the shores made from bone dust and dried flesh. The continent feels like it's...loafing around.

The cover was generated by Craiyon (formerly Dall-E) and then upscaled. A nice little experiment that could be helpful in the future.

His childlike wonder unnerves the three who hesitantly bring him to the mainland and get him to stand trial for what he did, but he doesn't exactly cooperate. The 'new world' is a fascinating thing to one stuck in the past, leading to the lich jumping about eagerly to discover everything. The populace don't take it well.
