Nearly two years, Applejack and Rainbow Dash had spent as girlfriends. Just two months ago had they had their messy breakup. Rainbow Dash desperately wants her ex out of her head so she can enjoy her blooming relationship with Fluttershy. However, Applejack had always been known to be stubborn. As Rainbow Dash struggles with heartbreak, loyalty and love, which way will she decide to go?

Rainbow Dash likes it a lot more than she thought she would.

Fluttershy has the chance of a lifetime: to perform at the palace Hearth's Warming party with her bird chorus. Alas, it is a suit-and-tie event... and that applies to birds as well.

Enter Rarity, to save Hearth's Warming! But as the deadline looms and complications arise, perhaps Fluttershy isn't the one who'll be saved.

This story takes place around the time of the final scene in the show, so we have Big Princess Twilight, everyone getting on in age and are in or just past their primes, etc.

Applejack has chosen to be alone on Hearth’s Warming because she doesn’t have a special somepony to spend it with, and doesn’t want to rub everyone else the wrong way.

Just as she’s about to settle in for a long winter’s nap, Rainbow shows up and they both decide to find solace in each other’s company.

Fine, it may have become a ship-fic at the end.

In the dreary city of Canterlot, all that remains of a once-mighty Equestria, Rarity is restless. She's a skilled machinist, owner of her own repair shop, but the work is dull and lifeless. She longs to feel like she's important, like she's making a difference, like she could be somepony.

And with the griffon army continually threatening Equestria's security, there's no better way to contribute than to join the Royal Canterlot Army. They're always on the lookout for skilled engineers, and with her talent, it's not like they'd make her actually fight anypony... right?

This story is a prequel to Lover of the Moon, but they can be read in any order. Originally written for the first Quills and Sofas Expanding Universes contest, where it won first place.

Ponies get older over time. They slow down. This is a part of life. But Rarity, Twilight, Applejack, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie can keep pursuing their dreams as they get older. Rainbow Dash can't. This is her last chance to be a Wonderbolt, and despite working her tail off, she's not getting any better. In fact, she's getting slower. She just wants things to be fair. She wants one last chance to achieve her dream.

She wants to be faster.

This is what happens when she gets her wish.
