For Memorial Day 2015

Some holidays are for happiness. Some holidays are for relaxation. Some holidays are to appreciate. But there is only one holiday to grieve. To some, that holiday means more than others.

Trade delegation, is that what they're calling it now? Princess Celestia is sending us to the north on a mission to meet with a legendary empire out of myths as old as Equestria. Between ourselves, we have a neurotic princess, a kid, a heavily armed kid, and a guy who really just wants to go home, and yet, on we march, not knowing where we go or what we're really doing in lands where blood flows more freely than water. It could be worse, though. They could have business with us.

Sunny Breeze is in Ponyville to meet Haye Bailer, his old comrade, best friend, and former coworker, in order to commemorate the past. Things do not go as planned, as the present throws in complicatiions and reminders of the past is never far away. Fic written for Veterans' Day 2014.

These are the meditations of Princess Luna as she goes for a walk one cool, blustery, fall afternoon. There is sadness. There is happiness. There is complexity. It all seems so simple, because it really isn't.

This is just one of those nights in The Zone, a group of strangers who consider each other friends, keep each other company around a fire as they spend the night keeping watching and swapping tales. Times like these are timeless, cherished, for none of them may see each other again, or survive until the next time. The stories they swap spread and take up residence in the collective folklore of that time and place. These are the legends of The Zone.

In the minutes just before the dawn of the day he must go to war, a royal Equestrian soldier ponders his lot. Just because the day is not yet begun does not mean that all is at rest. Just because something is promised does not mean that it is easy. Just because something is chosen does not mean it is desired. Just because something is obvious does not mean it is simple.

Equestria is a land at peace. Its neighbor, Zebricy, not so much. The land of the zebras is a is exploding into violence once again as a new civil war breaks out, this one threatening to boil over into Equestrian interests. Participate. Abstain. It will all end in death. A little fic I cooked up at midnight on Saturday on a hotel room floor during Bronycon.
