Shining Armour is prince of the Crystal Empire by virtue of matrimony with Princess Cadence. But is he really fit for the royal authority bestowed upon him, or is he just one of those lucky stallions who has the perks of marrying an alicorn princess?

Sombra returns to the Crystal Empire unexpectedly and retakes it, by weakening the will of the young unicorn prince and banishing him to the Frozen North, leaving his beloved Cadence and the Empire at the mercy of the dark king. Shining Armor now has to fight the king to regain his throne to the Empire and to prove to himself that the throne of the Crystal Empire is rightfully his.

Scootaloo has never been the best of fliers, especially when compared to her parents. But then again, neither was her brother, Flash. For most of her life, they've both been unable to meet the expectations their parents- and everypony else- have set for them, but they've always been able to take comfort in knowing they would face their problems together.

Now, however, things have changed. Flash is not only a member of Canterlot's Elite Guard, but he is also engaged to a Princess. He has become everything Scootaloo has only dreamed of, and yet she still can't even fly.

Will their relationship be able to survive? Or will Scootaloo abandon him forever?

Imprisoned in the tunnels beneath Canterlot, she withers away in hunger and despair. In the castle above, curiosity leads him to a door that he is forbidden to open. When they finally meet, it is just the opportunity she has waited for. Mislead by a child's trusting innocence, Spike unknowingly stumbles into the clutches of Equestria's greatest foe. And once you embrace the darkness, the darkness never lets you go...

What Spike saw in the doorway of King Sombra's crystal palace hasn't left his mind. The fear of Twilight abandoning him haunts him through recurrent nightmares. Anxiety taunts him when he's at his most vulnerable, reminding him of all his failures, all his inadequacies, all his wounds.

One night, this fear and anxiety manifests itself in a full-blown nightmare, dragging Spike face-to-face with his greatest fear. What if Twilight never needed Spike in the first place?

Takes place right after the Season Three opener (before Episode Three).

Sometime after she was saved from near death by her friends, Rarity accidentally discovers she can transform in her Nightmare form at will. Terrified, she hides herself away from everyone. But when a certain dragon checks on her, it will lead to something new being born between the two.

But there is something Spike has been hiding. Sure, it was possible he would have nightmares after what transpired on the moon, but there was something else he was having nightmares about. All it will take is the comfort of a newly crowned lavender Alicorn to finally fix things. Especially when said dragon is about to hit his first growth spurt.

Meanwhile, Sweetie Belle has been having a lot of trouble of her own. She seems to not even flinch at the two bullies words, she seems to be doing worse in school, and she's even seemingly pushing others who try to help her away. And this all started after Rarity was saved. Maybe her sister is what the young unicorn needs to get her back on track.

The Crystal empire has begun to recover in the time since Sombra was believed to be obliterated by the power of the Crystal Heart. Crystal ponies the empire over are beginning to settle into new lifestyles, trying to adapt to a completely alien time.

The young lord of the Slate Ridge region of the Crystal empire has finally finished tying up loose ends after the funerals of his two parents before he's called to the capital to suffer through the suspicions of his fellow (he uses that word hesitatingly) nobles.

Though he seems like a well-meaning stallion despite a few...physical oddities, H.R.H. Princess Cadenza is soon to learn a secret about our young lord's bloodline that could have a few thousand of her loyal ponies shaking in their crystalline horseshoes.

And not to mention what the stallion in question will hear about in his father's final words.

I mean really! Who leaves that sort of outrageous announcement in one's will anyway?!

(( This is my first story everyone! I got this idea while mourning King Sombra's distinct lack of any sort of back-story whatsoever. I would -deeply- appreciate any constructive criticism, as this project is mostly to assist with my writing. I'm not so much interested in spelling corrections, but any clearing up you can do for my grammar and sentence structure will be welcomed with open arms.
