Sunset has been recovering in Equestria following the events of Entropy, rebuilding her home and watching Princess Twilight build the School of Friendship and Magic. She's also dreading an upcoming diplomatic dinner that her status as princess requires her to attend.

But the Cervyderian ambassador brings more than just news of his homeland. The hart also brings a decree for the arrest of Twilight Sparkle, charging her with magic crimes following a series of magic portals being opened and unleashing mythic monsters upon the Glenn.

Circumstances and friendship cause Sunset to follow, but not all is as it seems when they enter the foreboding wood the Deer call home.

Twilight Sparkle has always respected the laws of science and magic. It's a respect that got her a scholarship to SGU, where she formed a small but comfortable group of friends and has received top grades in her two years there. It's a life that makes sense.

With her final year beginning and a special instruction from the Princess to bond with a fellow pupil, Twilight has enough to fill her life and her mind. It doesn't make sense that she should have recurring dreams about a mysterious mare, that this mare seems eerily familiar despite being a total stranger, or that she can recall the dreams with unusual clarity.

Twilight has questions about Equestria and about herself, and the answers could reshape her perception of both. She begins her research with a central question:

This is inspired by Lauren Faust’s recounting of her private story for Zecora’s origin at the Stories and Experiences Panel at Bronycon 2019, August 3rd. It was commissioned and edited by Dragon Turtle.

Over-thinking mundane objects ensue. This isn’t meant to suggest that there are no zebras native to Equestria’s world, but in this fic, Zecora isn’t one of them.
